Unwanted Mate

Chapter 164

Ch. 164 / 165 Jun 23, 2025

The whole room exuded tranquility as if it held its breath.

Jermey blinked his eyes open once more, stealing glances at the other werewolves nearby. To his surprise, most of them were slouched against the walls, snoozing away on their chairs. Ben's neck remained stiff, locked in a position fixated on the gloomy clouds above. But his tired eyes were twitching and his eyelashes seemed to engage in a battle of their own, struggling to stay shut.

Jeremy's gaze landed on Kent, who was still wide awake and lost in contemplation of the cloud-covered heavens.

As if sensing Jeremy's presence, Kent abruptly turned his head, forgetting for a moment that he had been stuck in the same position, resulting in a stiff neck. The contorted expression on his face confirmed this mishap.

Despite the inopportune timing, Kent's unintended antics managed to tickle Jeremy's funny bone. Though they were now fighting on the same side, Jeremy still remembered that sneaky bastard had hit him with sleep magic twice before, and Jeremy couldn't help but feel a twinge of satisfaction witnessing Kent's momentary discomfort.

But Jeremy's fleeting amusement was soon overtaken by a wave of anticipation. He stole a glance at the wall, checking the time. The night was fast approaching its midway point.

The heavy clouds above had thinned slightly, but the moon remained hidden from view. Raindrops, now sparse and elusive, seemed to have abandoned the sky, leaving only a faint trace of mist in the air.

A glimmer of hope rekindled in Jeremy's chest, urging him to redirect his gaze to the cloud-laden heavens. He yearned to see those clouds to disperse. If only the Moon Goddess would reveal Celeste's whereabouts, Jeremy would willingly embrace any endeavor.

He kept his eyes fixated on the celestial body, unyielding and unwavering. He had lost track of time, feeling as if his neck was on the verge of snapping, when, finally, the stubborn cloud dissipated into thin air, unveiling a resplendent, round, and golden moon.

Jeremy blinked, almost doubting his senses, unable to fathom if he had stumbled upon a dream. Holding his breath, as if afraid that the moon might be devoured by the returning clouds, he was transfixed in the moment.

Suddenly, breaking the serene silence, Ben's voice erupted, shattering the stillness. "The moon is out. The moon is out!"

Ben's voice reverberated with uncontainable elation, rippling through the tranquil night like an explosive force, jolting every single slumbering werewolf into a state of alertness. In the blink of an eye, the serene atmosphere was shattered by the pack's exuberance.

"The moon's out!" echoed the ecstatic cries of numerous werewolves, their voices tinged with excitement and quivering anticipation.

In an astonishing display, several of them swiftly metamorphosed into magnificent wolves right beneath the moon's gaze. Within the confines of the room, their fervor knew no bounds as they joyfully bounded and howled, caught up in a frenzy of unleashed energy.

Jeremy exhaled sharply, unaware of the pent-up breath he had been holding. For a fleeting moment, doubt clung to his mind like a ghostly illusion, refusing to believe that the celestial body hanging above was real. Fear gripped him, afraid that it might be a figment of his imagination. Yet, the collective witness of all the werewolves left no room for skepticism.

It was undeniably real–the moon had indeed made its appearance.

This encounter marked Jeremy's maiden rendezvous with the moon, evoking an inexplicable sense of familiarity. While he had beheld the primitive moon countless times before, this instance felt different. The moon, once cherished for its ability to awaken the dormant wolf within him, had been both a source of adoration and loathing.

He had mistakenly believed Celeste to be his twin sister, and he perceived the moon's presence as a whimsical taunt, inducing a haunting fear within him. The moon, he feared, possessed the power to unleash his most primal desires, potentially causing harm to Celeste.

Yet, at this moment, as he gazed upon the immaculate brilliance of the lunar orb, an overwhelming sentiment of gratitude overcame him. It was akin to a parched wanderer stumbling upon an oasis after traversing the barren desert for days on end.

Jeremy swiftly pivoted, his attention captured by the restlessness coursing through the other werewolves in the room. The adoration of werewolves for the moon ran deep within their very essence. And now, with the full moon casting its enchanting spell, an unstoppable surge surged through the core of every werewolf, urging them to embrace their lupine nature.

The wolf within Jeremy mirrored this impatience, itching to break free from the confines of his skin. It yearned to frolic beneath the moonlit expanse, seeking solace in the arms of its luna.

Locked in a gaze with Byron, Jeremy's voice erupted with excitement and a touch of urgency.

  "Hurry! The ritual!"

Byron gave a quick nod and eagerly pulled out a worn-out map of Wolf Town, slapping it down on the floor like a treasure map waiting to be explored.

The room remained in darkness, but the mischievous moon had made its appearance, casting a soft glow through the window, illuminating the map as if it held secrets waiting to be discovered.

In a frenzy, Byron fumbled around, lighting the candles scattered on the floor. They had arranged the candles earlier, forming a peculiar symbol that Jeremy had never laid eyes on before. It was clearly the ritual required to summon the Moon Goddess.

Jeremy couldn't help but notice the trembling in Byron's hands. As the candlelight danced around them, he caught glimpses of the hair on Byron's arms morphing into fleeting black shadows–his very own wolves vying for dominance, attempting to claim Byron's arm.

At that moment, Byron stood bathed in the moon's gentle glow, seemingly tempted to unleash his inner wolves. Yet, he fought against the wild impulse, struggling to keep the primal desires at bay.

As the last candle flickered to life, Jeremy spotted glistening beads of sweat forming on Byron's forehead. He released a breath he hadn't realized he was holding, only to discover his own back was drenched in a mix of anticipation and nerves.

"The final step," Byron's voice quivered, tinged with a raw, hoarse quality. It almost seemed as if his own wolf was on the brink of climbing his mouth and throat, preparing for a harmonious howl.

Jeremy swallowed hard, his heart racing like a wild stallion. He could sense his inner wolf pacing restlessly within, longing to break free, yet he restrained it. He silently urged his wolf to endure, just a little longer, one more precious minute.

With a nod from Byron, Jeremy finally exhaled, releasing the pent-up tension within. Swiftly, he shed his clothes, standing unabashedly in the midst of the candle-lit enigmatic symbols that surrounded him, as if stepping into a realm of mystery and wonder.

He beckoned his wolf to emerge, feeling the transformative power surge through him in an instant. Bending down, he savored the sensation of his spine yielding to the primal grip of wolfish bones, and with each passing second, his human skin became cloaked in a velvety coat of fur.

In the blink of an eye, his inner wolf had triumphantly claimed its dominion over his entire being, a harmonious fusion of man and beast that was both exhilarating and empowering.
