Silas’s P.O.V
The other wolf’s form was an impressive sight to behold. I could already tell it was a female from the way it carried itself.
Her sleek fur was black as coal, glistening in the moonlight, and her eyes were piercing amber, like two burning suns. Her build was muscular and powerful, showing the strength of a natural-born Alpha, but I could tell she was not as strong as me. As she moved, her limbs flowed with grace and fluidity, each step precise and calculated. Her howls were deep and commanding, sending shivers down the spine of anyone who heard them. In short, her wolf form exuded a dangerous yet alluring aura that demanded respect and fear.
But I did not fear her. Why should I?
I let out a low growl as I hunkered down to the ground on all fours, letting the change take over me in a flash of pleasure-pain as my bones shifted, my body transforming into that of my Alpha wolf. Reddish brown fur grew on my body, muscles growing taut over bones as my entire anatomy shifted.
As soon as I transformed into my wolf form, the black wolf charged at me, merciless, relentless, giving me no time to spare. She was strong, but not as strong as an Alpha should be, which now made me doubt her real status as an Alpha. Was she one of those wolves who had taken over a pack by brute force and proclaimed to be the Alpha even though she didn’t have it in her blood?
I dodged her first few attacks but soon realized that I needed to go on the offense if I wanted to win. We circled each other, snarling and growling, sizing up each other and trying to predict each other’s next move… before I lunged at her.
We clashed in mid-air, fangs bared and claws extended, and I was momentarily taken aback by her strength, when she had a firm grip on my throat, and I could feel her teeth piercing through my fur. I struggled to break free, but it was no use. Her jaws were like a vise, and I felt my breath being choked out of me.
Summoning all my strength, I slammed her against a tree trunk, hoping to loosen her hold on me. It worked, and I managed to twist out of her grip. I went for her throat, but she sidestepped and nipped at my hindquarters. I yelped in pain, but refused to back down. Even though she wasn’t a natural Alpha, the woman was good at strategizing, I had to give her that…or maybe, I was simply out of practice.
I could feel my heart pounding in my chest, adrenaline coursing through my veins. Her strength was evident, as she lunged at me with ferocity, her powerful jaws snapping dangerously close to my throat. I dodged and countered, using every ounce of my own strength and skill to keep her at bay.
As we clashed, I felt a mix of fear and determination surging within me. Fear of the consequences if I were to lose, knowing that my life could be in danger. But also, a deep-rooted determination to protect myself and stand my ground, to prove my innocence and assert my place in this unfamiliar situation.
I also realized that we had moved away from where I had placed an unconscious Zoya against the trunk of a forest giant, and that gave me some form of reassurance that at least she was safe. Zoya might not have been the wolf’s prime target, but at least she was away from harm’s way and the wolf couldn’t get back to her right away.
My senses were heightened, my instincts on full alert as I tried to anticipate her next moves and find openings to strike. The sound of our growls and snarls filled the air, intermingled with the rustling of leaves and the scent of damp earth. It was a primal battle, wolf against wolf, each of us vying for dominance.
For a brief moment, I wondered if the sentinels of my pack would follow our growls and find out exactly where we were…where I was. What would happen then? Would they capture me on sight? Or will they kill me like a rabid dog, a pest that they couldn’t wait to get rid of?
As we continued to clash, my mind raced with thoughts of the accusations against me, the injustice I had faced, and the uncertain future that awaited me. Despite the fear and exhaustion, I refused to give up, determined to fight with all I had.
In the midst of the chaos, I could feel a mix of emotions coursing through me - fear, anger, frustration, and determination all tangled together. Yet, I focused on the task at hand, putting every ounce of my strength and skill into the fight.
The struggle felt like an eternity, though it likely lasted only minutes. We continued to fight, back and forth, and I could feel the adrenaline coursing through my veins. It was a battle of wills, and I was determined to come out on top. I managed to get a good hold on her neck and bit down hard, causing her to let out a yelp of pain.
With her weakened, I didn't hesitate to use my weight to knock her down and pinned her to the ground. We both transformed back to our human forms at the same time with me still pinning her down, not caring that we were now naked. It hardly mattered to us wolves anyway, nakedness was nothing to be weary or shy about. We glared at each other instead, panting heavily from the exertion of the fight.
"You're strong," I said, still wary. Despite the exhaustion and the injuries, I felt a sense of relief and triumph. I had stood my ground, proved my capabilities, and earned her respect. It was a small victory, but it gave me a glimmer of hope in this uncertain situation.
The woman gave me a small smile. "As are you. But you're still a fugitive, Silas. You can't hide forever."
