The Alpha Triplets and the Rogue

Destin POV

"Open the fucking door, Destin," Edward shouts.

I crack the door open and glare at him. "I am not interested unless you have your sister with you."

He scoffs loudly. "You have fucked up. She isn't coming back."

I refuse to let him in the cabin. He is not welcome in my home. Maybe I would let Winston come in, but not this asshole with his quick temper. The twins are pushing me from side to side, trying to get me to move out of their way. They aren't speaking to me now that Wren has left. They are angry that I took their Birdie from them. One of them forces their way between my legs and squeals.

Edward looks down and softens his gaze. "Hey, Coren."

"Are you here to take me to Birdie?" He whispers to Edward.

Edward bends down to speak to the child between my legs. It is incredibly uncomfortable. I step around Coren and let Edward come into the house, but they stay at the door. "Who is Birdie?"

"The pretty wolf girl with chocolate hair," he grins.

His description of Wren causes me to feel a little guilty. She is the pretty wolf girl with chocolate hair. She is my pretty wolf girl with chocolate hair.

Edward ruffles his hair. "I am here to talk to Destin."

Coren scowls. "I hate Destin."

Edward gets back to his feet. "There is a lot of that going around."

Coren and Veyra link arms and stick their tongues out at me before disappearing upstairs. I don't bother to turn to face Edward. "Why are you here? Are you going to kill me?"

"Not this time," Edward replies. There is no humor in his voice. I believe he would kill me if it wouldn't hurt Wren. We don't like each other. There is no reason for us to pretend, even though I am his sister's mate.

"Are you here to tell me to grovel for Wren's forgiveness?" I ask.

"Nope," Edward replies. "If you can't see how important she is to have in your life, you don't deserve her."

I roll my eyes. "I never said she wasn't important. If she wasn't, I wouldn't have tried so hard to keep her safe."

"Whatever," Edward sighs. "I am here about Arabella's Tome."

"Her what?" I pretend not to know what he is talking about.

Edward flops onto the couch. "Her spellbook, Idiot. Nyx needs it."

I tighten my jaw. "I don't know where it is."

It isn't a lie. I couldn't lie if I wanted to. I don't know where the tome is. I gave it to someone for safekeeping, and they disappeared with it.

Edward yawns like he is bored. "Fine. Who did you give it to?"

"That is none of your business," I hiss at him.

Edward lies down on the couch and threads his fingers behind his head. "I am making it my business. Wren is sad. Because she is sad, Macy is pissed. I have to deal with pissed off Macy. That is my problem, but I am making it yours. I am not leaving here until you tell me where it is."

"You can't stay here," I snap at him.

"Then tell me where it is," he smirks.

Edward being in my house is making me murderous. I find myself wondering how long it would take Macy to figure out that I have killed him. But I temper my anger. If I kill him, Macy will kick me out of the Immortal Realm, and I will lose the twins and Wren. "Why is it so important?"

He tilts his head so he is looking at me. "Macy thinks we can keep Selene out of the Immortal Realm if we can get the portal closed. Once the portal is closed. The twins can be free, and so can Wren."

This is the stupidest plan I have ever heard in my entire life. If we close the portal between the realms, that is it. We are stuck here, and everyone on the other side is stuck there. "Does Wren know about this plan?"

He looks back at the ceiling. "It was her idea?"

"She doesn't know what she is asking," I scoff.

Edward finally sits back up. "Maybe you should stop treating her like a child. The consequences of closing the portal are well known. We know what we are leaving behind, but we have decided to put the needs of your grandchildren above us. That's what responsible adults do."

"What about the lycans that have mates in the werewolf world?" I ask. "They will never find them if we close the portal. You are putting the needs of my grandchildren above two realms."

"If that is how you want to look at it." Edward gets to his feet. "I'll be back tomorrow to see if you have changed your mind."

He walks to the front door and turns the handle. When he opens the door, he growls. "Why couldn't Wren do this?"

"Fuck off," I snap at him. "I almost lost her once. I won't do it again."

"Yet," he shakes his head. "You haven't even asked where she is."

He slams the door behind him, and I am left standing in the middle of the room with anger simmering in my chest. I turn to the stairs, and Charlie is standing at the top. "Who did you give the book to?"

I don't bother to lie. "Sadie has it."

"Why the fuck did you give it to Sadie?"

I shrug my shoulders. "I didn't want it in this realm, but she disappeared right after I gave it to her."

"Fucking find it," he snarls.

"They don't know what they are asking," I repeat myself. "I am not going to look for it."

"Fine," he stomps down the stairs. "I will."

I chase after him. "You don't even know where to look."

He grabs his coat and shrugs it on. "I have an idea. If you were the only triplet not to find your mate, where would you go?"

The anger in my chest is replaced by fear. "She wouldn't go to the Moon Goddess. It would be suicide."

"You don't know Sadie like I do," he snaps at me. "She has always come in last when it came to her sisters. She is desperate."

"I am coming with you," I tell him, but I stop short. I can't come with him. There would be no one to look after the twins.

"Win Wren back, take care of the twins," he tells me. "I will be back."

When Charlie leaves, I hear muffled crying at the top of the stairs. Coren and Veyra are holding each other and crying. They would rather be here with anyone but me. Onyx would be so disappointed in me.

"Hey," I say softly. "Why are you crying?"

"Because we don't want to be separated," Veyra sobs.

Climbing the stairs slowly, I sit down beside them. "Why would you be separated?"

Veyra's eyes glow, and an unearthly voice comes from her lips. "Two twins. One dark and one light. Hold the key to keeping the realms connected. Split them up to tether the connection."
