Ch. 542 / 580 Jan 28, 2026

Charlie POV

"You can't ask her to do that," I shout at Destin. "She isn't the same."

Destin is pacing in front of the hospital. Wren has been awake for two days, and he has just now shown up. I understand he had things to attend to, but Wren has always been my number one priority. He should put her first, like I have.

"I know this isn't the ideal situation," Destin grumbles. "But what would you have me do? Their mother sacrificed herself so we could get to Wren. I owe this to them. I owe it to Onyx."

"You have lost your fucking mind," I snarl back. "Wren is already hanging on by a thread. This will push her over the fucking edge."

Destin shoves me, and I stumble back. "You don't give her enough credit. She has been through shit, but she is not a monster. She won't make me choose."

"Fine," I hiss. "Go and ask her yourself."

I can't wipe the smug look off my face as we walk through the hospital. Destin thinks he knows everything about everything, but I plan on being there when Wren tells him to fuck off. If she even bothers to speak to him at all.

She has barely spoken since she woke up. The light in her eyes has disappeared. The woman whom I fell in love with is gone. When I asked Selene to save her, I thought she would wake up the same as she had been. But that wasn't the case. She is withdrawn and sad. The month she spent away from us took a toll. Depression settled in, and I am not sure we will ever be able to bring her back.

Destin pauses outside of her hospital room, and sucks in a sharp breath. He is nervous. The motherfucker talks a big game, but when it comes to Wren he is terrified to fuck up. Which is exactly what he is getting ready to do.

"Don't do this," I whisper behind him. "She isn't ready."

He glances over his shoulder and frowns. "She won't ever be ready for this."

We step inside her room, but she doesn't glance our way. Her eyes are focused on the wall in front of her, just as they have been for the past two days.

"Hey, Kitten," Destin says as he sits beside her. "Sorry it took me so long to get here."

Her eyes stray from the wall and land on Destin. "Did Onyx have a nice funeral?"

Destin offers her a weak smile and nods. "She did. Thank you for letting me put her to rest before coming back."

"It was the least I could do." Wren's bottom lip begins to quiver. "She gave her life to help you."

Destin holds her hand gently. "She did."

He looks over at me, and I try to tell him to stop. But I know he won't. Quickly, I take her other side, clasping her hand in mine. The tingles from the mate bond are weak, but they are there. Each day, she gets stronger, and so does the bond between us.

"Destin wants to ask you something," I warn her. "But you have every right to tell him no."

She cocks her head to the side, but doesn't take her eyes away from Destin. "They are alone and scared."

My eyes widen in shock. How does she already know what Destin is talking about? No one in this realm knows of the twins existence. Only Destin and I do.

"They are alone," Destin whimpers. "They need someone to raise them."

"I wasn't sure you were coming back," she whispers. "I saw so many different outcomes in my mind. In some, you stayed behind to raise them. Others, you left them and came home to me. But I am assuming this isn't either one of those. I haven't seen this one yet."

I am dumbfounded. I have no idea what she is talking about, but Destin doesn't seem confused. What does she mean she has seen it?

He cups her face in his hand. "I can't choose. You understand that, right?"

"I wouldn't ask you to choose," she sighs. "I am just glad I am not being left behind."

He presses his lips to hers, and tears run down her cheeks. I flop back onto the chair beside the bed and huff loudly. She hasn't said this much to me since she woke up, and now Destin has her eating out of his hand.

"Don't be mad," Destin smirks. "Wren has come into her Luna Queen powers. She saw all of this coming. Or at least she saw different versions. Am I right, Kitten?"

She nods but doesn't speak. I don't think she can find her voice.

"Why did you tell me?" I ask her.

She finally turns to me. "I didn't know what was happening. I thought I was going crazy. I didn't want you to save me, just for me to be crazy."

Destin growls. "What do you mean?"

"Charlie made a deal with Selene for my life," she informs him before I can. "I just can't see what the deal is."

Destin's lips are pressed together into a thin line. "Deals with Selene are not easily undone."

"It doesn't need to be undone," I spit at him. "Wren is alive, and that is all that matters."

"What did you give her?" He demands to know.

I shake my head. "You don't need to know. We are all making sacrifices for this to work between the three of us. It's fine."

"We deserve to know," she says quietly. "We are all in this together."

"It's not a big deal," I shrug my shoulders. "But I need to go. I have to speak with my Beta before we leave for the Immortal Realm."

Wren's eyes glaze over, and her hand covers her mouth. "There is only one path set before you."

My teeth grind together. It is going to be hard to keep secrets with her seeing everything that I have been planning. I kiss her on the top of the head. "It's for the best," I tell her.

She grabs my hand and refuses to let go. "Being an Alpha is something that every male werewolf dreams about, and you are just going to give it away?"

"Being your mate is what I have been dreaming about," I reply. "I know what I am doing."

Before she digs further into my future, I leave the room. But Destin is right behind me. "What did you give Selene?"

"Nothing," I tell him. It's not a lie. There isn't a child yet. I haven't given her anything.
