Destin POV
I am lying on one edge of the bed, and Charlie is on the other. The space between us where Wren would lie is empty. She hasn't come back from the twins room yet, and neither of us is brave enough to go after her. We acted like children, and we deserve her anger, but that doesn't mean we are stupid enough to hunt her down.
"She's kind of scary when she is mad," Charlie whispers.
"A little," I admit.
"Do you think she is going to come to bed?" He asks.
I keep my eyes focused on the ceiling. "I don't know. She was pretty mad."
Charlie grumbles and rolls over, taking the blanket with him. It slides off me, and I yank it back in my direction. He flips over onto his back and growls. "Stop hogging the blankets."
"Me?" I scoff. "You are the blanket hog."
A game of tug of war breaks out between us. Neither one of us is willing to give up an inch of the blanket. The fabric stretches and strains under the weight of our fight. It finally rips down the middle, and Charlie freezes. A smirk spreads across his face, and we both start laughing.
Charlie and I have been friends since I left the Immortal Realm. We fought beside each other in the war against the Moon Goddess, and I was there for him when he lost his mate. He might as well be my brother. I never thought I would share a mate, but I don't mind sharing with Charlie. It feels natural.
Our laughter dies down, and a comfortable silence falls between us before Charlie sighs loudly. "I gave up the ability to have children with Wren to save her."
"Oh," I reply. I am not sure how to respond to that. It isn't what I expected. "Is that why you gave up the pack?"
He shrugs. "Maybe. I don't know. I can't be there and here. It isn't fair to the pack. They deserve an Alpha who is present for them."
"What do we do now?" I ask. "Do neither of us have children with her?"
"No!" He shouts. "Give her babies. I will love them as if they are my own."
I exhale. I missed out on raising Onyx, and I had hoped that I could have that opportunity with Wren, but now it feels tainted. "We should talk to Wren before we make decisions."
Charlie's face falls, but he tries to mask it. "Should I go get her?"
I get out of bed and pull a shirt over my head. "I will."
Charlie yawns, but doesn't argue. I know he is tired. Neither of us has gotten much sleep lately.
The door to the twins room is cracked open, and I peek in. Wren is curled up in Veyra's bed alone. Gently, I push the door open and step into the room. Veyra and Coren are curled up together in his bed. It has happened every night since I met them. They are inseparable.
Wren looks peaceful, and I should probably leave her to rest, but I know I won't sleep well without her by my side. I gather her into my arms and carry her from the twins room. She barely stirs in my arms.
Charlie is already snoring on his side of the bed, but Wren's eyes pop open when I rest her beside him. "Destin."
"Shh," I whisper. "Charlie is already sleeping."
Pulling off my shirt, I slide under the torn blanket beside her. Her hand rests against the bird tattoo on my chest. Her fingers curl over my heart, and tingles spread over my skin.
"When did you get this?" She asks.
The memory is embarrassing, and I am not sure I want to share it with her. But her wide blue eyes make me talk. "I stalked you for a while."
She snorts with laughter. "What?"
"Shh," I hiss. "Like I was saying. I watched you from afar, and I knew I wouldn't be able to deny the mate bond, but I was determined to try."
Sadness flickers in her eyes, but she doesn't interrupt me.
"So," I continue. "I did the only reasonable thing. I got drunk on Fae wine and got a tattoo of a chubby little bird on my chest."
The corners of her mouth tug into a smile. "Are you proud of that story?"
"Not particularly," I admit.
Flipping onto her back, she tries to pull the blanket up around her neck, but it only covers half of her. She glances over at me and narrows her eyes. "Why is the blanket torn down the middle?"
I shrug my shoulders innocently. "Ask Charlie."
Then she does something unexpected. She rolls on her side and shakes Charlie awake. "Why is the blanket torn?"
Charlie groans uncomfortably. "What?"
"The blanket. Why is it torn?" She asks again.
Charlie rolls toward her, pulling her close to his chest. He breathes in her scent deeply, and I watch lustfully as his fingers press into her skin. "Ask Destin."
His nose is tracing the line of her jaw. She is desperately trying to keep it together, but she is losing herself in his touch. I inch my way closer to her until my chest is pressed against her back.
Charlie's is sucking on her neck, and her eyes flutter shut. Grabbing the hem of her shirt, I graze my fingers along her skin. I dodge the scar on her stomach, knowing that if I touch it, she will withdraw from us again.
She is still in her jeans from earlier, and they are too tight to get my hand inside. "She has on too many clothes."
Charlie lifts his head, revealing a dark bruise on her neck. "Take them off then."
He pushes Wren onto her back, and I climb between her legs. I quickly unbutton her pants and yank them over her hips. Charlie is pulling at her shirt, tugging it over her head. He twists her shirt around her hands, trapping them over her head.
I look up from her between her legs. Before we continue, I need to make sure she is okay.
"What are you waiting for?" She breathes out.
I rip her panties from her body and toss them to the side. Wren's hips are wiggling with anticipation. She pussy is already glistening with arousal.
I run a finger along her entrance, and her head tips back.
"Wren," I whisper as I push a finger inside. "You have to be quiet."
She whimpers as I curl my finger. "I know."
I lower my mouth to her clit and flick my tongue against it. She cries loudly, but Charlie muffles it with his mouth. Pulling away from her, I look up at my friend. "Keep her quiet."
"Not a problem," he smiles.
