Wren POV
I had forgotten how different the Immortal Realm is. The colors are more vibrant, the grass and trees are more lush, and even the air smells nicer. I wish I could stay here, but instead, it just adds to my jealousy.
'You need to get it under control,' Jasmine growls in my mind. 'What has gotten into you?'
'I don't know,' I reply. 'I feel so unbalanced.'
'It is because you haven't claimed your mates,' she sighs. 'The bond isn't complete.'
'They won't let me complete the bond,' I whine. 'And if I can't get my emotions under control, I am going to drive them away.'
'Give me some of the control,' Jasmine suggests. 'I will keep you in line.'
'We are too different,' I object. 'They will know instantly. I just need to suck it up.'
Jasmine's growl rumbles loudly in my head. 'I am here if you need me.'
My mind goes silent, and I look around the room that was given to Charlie and me. It is lovely, just like everything else here. My fingers run over the sheets on the bed, and they are perhaps the softest things I have ever touched. I bend over and practically press my nose to the sheets. They smell amazing.
Hands grip my hips, and someone grinds into my backside. A smirk spreads along my lips. "Charlie. I hardly think this is the time."
"What do you expect?" He chuckles. "I walk into the room, and you are bent over the bed. I assumed you were waiting for me."
"I was smelling them," I reply. "They smell really good."
Charlie is looking at me like I have three heads. "I am serious. Smell them." I pull the sheet from the bed and hold it in his direction.
"You are a little odd. Did you know that?" He jokes, but he still indulges me and smells the sheets. "They do smell nice."
"Odd?" I cross my arms over my chest and pretend to pout. "You think I am odd."
Charlie scoops me into his arms and lays me gently on the bed. "In all of the best ways."
I pretend to be angry and scoff, but my tantrum doesn't faze Charlie. He lies down beside me and rests his head on my chest. He yawns loudly, and I run my fingers through his hair. It isn't long until he drifts off to sleep, but I can't seem to do the same.
When Edward showed us to our room, he told us to get some sleep. He wasn't sure when they would be able to track down Onyx. She wasn't in her usual spot in the library, and she can be hard to track down. I can't say that I blame her. I wonder if she knows Destin is her father. Maybe she will be reluctant to help us for that reason alone.
The smell of the sheets lulls me into a deep sleep. But, I am not surprised when I wake up on the moon once again.
I slip off my shoes at the Moon Castle door and make my way inside. Selene is right inside, leaning against her staircase, with an apple in her hands.
"I didn't know you could grow fruit on the moon," I say sarcastically.
"Being me has perks," she laughs. "You know. If you wanted to stay in a magical realm, I would have made you a room here."
"You have been watching me," I state the obvious.
"Always," she smirks. "Tell me. Have you found a solution to your little problem?"
All of her questions set my teeth on edge. "Which problem would that be?"
She cocks her head to the side and smiles evilly. "I am afraid it is not time for me to answer your questions."
"Then I would like to go home," I reply.
"You will return when I allow it," she snaps. "I have a few questions for you."
Rage is burning within my veins. I will not answer any of her questions.
"How are you handling not being able to mark your mates?" She chuckles.
My mouth drops open, but I quickly close it. Of course, she knows about my mood swings. If she has been watching me, I bet she has been inside of my mind as well. When Destin wakes, I will have to ask him how to keep her out.
"There is nothing you can hide from me," she reminds me.
Still, I refuse to acknowledge her.
Selene taps a finger on her chin. "Right now, you are wondering if your mate knows how to block me out of his mind. And I will tell you right now, that is a secret I will never tell."
I keep my arms crossed over my chest. I am trying to keep my face neutral, but I know I am failing. My face is heated, and I know I am covered in a bright red blush. Still, I stare at Selene. I refuse to look weak in her presence.
The silence between us hangs awkwardly, but then something weird happens. My body begins to shake awkwardly.
Selene tuts her tongue on the roof of her mouth. "It looks like our time here is done."
Everything goes dark, and my eyes fly open. Charlie is hovering over me, with a hand on each shoulder, shaking me.
"Stop," I groan. "I'm awake."
"You sleep too soundly," he whimpers. "I thought you were dead."
"No," I sigh. "I am not dead, but I was in hell."
I look toward the window, and it is still dark outside. I sit up abruptly and knock my head into Charlie's.
"Ouch," we moan at the same time.
"Is everything okay?" I rub the sore spot on my forehead.
"Yes," he shouts. "Everything is perfect. Look at your arms. Look at mine."
The runes on my right arm have moved to my left. Only, they are a little different. "Charlie," I gasp. "Our bond."
"It has snapped into place," he grins. "I think it is the magic of the Immortal Realm."
"That is wonderful," I pause. "And awful."
"Why awful?" Charlie frowns.
"Because there is no way we can bring all of the werewolves here to find their mates. The creatures of this realm won't allow it."
"Then we have to figure out how to create this magic in the Human Realm," he smiles. "We will figure this out. Together."
