Thinking it was too invasive to wait for Mia to return in her own office, Beau waited outside in the hall that led to her office, listening intently for any noise from the other side of the door. It seemed to take an awfully long time for her to return to her desk, and he wondered if that meant the worse, that Sam had claimed her. This was all his fault-even more so than it had been before. Not only would she have never gotten the job if it hadn't been for him, the reason she was late delivering Sam's lunch, the reason she was punished in the first place, was because of him.
He knocked on the door. This time, he decided to wait for her to say he could come in. "Yes?" Mia called.
Opening it just a crack, he stuck his head in. "Hi. Can I come in?"
Mia nodded, and he walked in. "Are you okay?" He could tell by her expression that she wasn't.
"I'm fine."
"What happened?" he asked before he thought about what he was asking. She couldn't tell him that.
Mia just looked at him and shook her head. "I'm fine," she said again.
Beau was growing more and more angry by the second, but not at her. He needed to talk to his brother. Running a ran through his hair, he moved toward the door.
"Beau, where are you going?" Mia asked.
"I need to talk to him. This has got to stop."
"Please don't do that. I'm a big girl, Beau. I can take care of myself."
"But, Mia...."
"Beau-listen. He told me to tell you that you have until Monday. Do you know what he means?"
His eyes widened. He knew exactly what it meant. "Yeah. So he didn't...."
"He didn't anything," she said with a shrug. "Not really. Anyway, he seemed pretty angry at me after he found out the truth about me."
"You told him? That you're a virgin?"
"Yeah. I had to. I mean, I wasn't going to lie. He was pretty pissed."
Knowing his brother as well as he did, he understood exactly what Sam was mad about, and it wasn't Mia he was angry at. He couldn't tell her that, though. Doing so wouldn't make her feel any better, and it would probably do more harm than good. "I'm going to go talk to him," he said again.
"Beau, please don't."
Ignoring her pleas, Beau punched in the code and opened the door to his brother's office, immediately wishing he hadn't.
Sam was sitting at the table where he always ate lunch, holding his dick in one hand as he closed his eyes and squeezed one off. When he heard the door open, his eyes opened and he swore, calling Beau every name in the book.
"Sorry," he said, closing the door. "Don't you have a secret room for that?"
"Yeah, but I thought I was alone." He used a napkin from the takeout bag to clean up and put himself back in his pants. "What do you want?"
Beau took a few steps closer and said, "Fire her. Please."
"I can't do that. Did she give you my message?"
"Yeah, she did. But Monday's only a couple of days away, Sam. You can't expect me to work that fast."
"Why not? I would've done it already."
"I'm not you."
"You can say that again," Sam muttered.
"Thank God!" Beau folded his arms. "Listen, she's out there thinking you rejected her because there's something wrong with her. I'm supposed to take her out tonight. I don't want to take advantage of her emotional state."
"Beau, she likes you. She's already going to sleep with you, brother."
"But I'm not sure I want to-yet."
Sam shrugged. "Then don't. But as you can see, I'm not able to wait anymore."
Swallowing hard, Beau ran a hand through his hair. "You're a sick bastard, Sam."
Chuckling, his older brother said, "That's okay. I've been called worse. I like who I am. I like what I do. And I like that woman sitting out there. You should be grateful. You have no idea how much restraint I showed in not taking her earlier. She wanted it."
That was enough. Beau didn't need to hear anymore. Knowing that he didn't need to see Mia again at the moment, he went out the other door, hoping his brother choked on his sandwich.
