Back at her desk, Mia did her best to steady her heart rate. The feel of Sam's mouth on her skin, his hands on her waist, lingered even after the sensation had subsided.
She'd never imagined something could feel so good. A hint of pain had come along with it, especially toward the end, when her tender flesh had been manipulated for so long, but the pleasure had been so much more intense than she had expected, and sitting behind her desk with nothing to do but think about Sam, Mia was forced to confess to herself that she wanted more.
It wasn't up to her to decide, though. She had absolutely no control when it came to Sam. She'd be forced to wait for him to come to her.
But then, there was Beau.... She had more control in that situation. Something told her she could've gotten him to press on the night before if she'd tried a bit harder. Fear had stopped her. Fear of what it would be like to transition from her virginal state there in his arms, in the hot tub. But after her encounter with Sam today, Mia wasn't afraid anymore. She understood that the pleasure would outweigh the pain.
Which one of them would claim her first, though? If she spent more time with Beau outside of work, would he push past his limitations and take her? Or would it be Sam, in his office, or in that secret space he'd alluded to? Would he be the one to force himself inside of her first?
Either way, she'd be willing to go the distance with whichever brother staked his claim first.
And then the other one later....
Her door opened a bit and Veronica stuck her head inside. "Hi, Mia. How are you?"
"Fine, thanks. How are you?" Veronica came in to check on her at least once a day, usually after Sam had called her into his office. She wondered if the woman had some way of knowing what Sam was up to.
She came in and crossed over to the desk, having a seat in one of the chairs in front of Mia. "Good. Busy."
"Must be nice," Mia said with a snicker.
Veronica's smile was sympathetic. "How are you liking things here at Whitaker and Whitaker?"
She nodded. "I like it. It's just... I wish I had more to do."
Veronica laughed. "I wish I had less to do. Be careful what you wish for."
Mia smiled, but she really did wish she had more work. And more of Sam....
"Just remember, next Friday is pay day. If you've decided by then that you don't want to work here anymore, you should have enough money to pay back the money from the credit card... if you want to."
Veronica was asking her a question, and Mia wasn't sure how to answer, or if she even should. Did she really like her job-what Sam did with her behind closed doors? She did. But if she admitted that to Veronica, would she think less of her?
"I have a lot of expenses," she explained, hoping Veronica would believe she was saying that even if she wanted to quit, she couldn't. Which was true... but she didn't want to.
The older woman nodded slowly. "Well, Sam is very fond of you," she said, the sigh that came out of her mouth letting Mia know she wished it wasn't so, likely for Mia's sake. "He's certainly asked more of you than most of his secretaries in their first few weeks."
"Really?" Mia was surprised and didn't know exactly what to think of that. Was she saying that she knew everything she and Sam had done?
"Yes. He usually only calls his new secretaries in every few days. Not every day. Sometimes more than once. I think... you have him smitten, Miss Mia. That could be a good thing-or a bad thing, depending upon how much you care for him."
Mia raised an eyebrow and stared at her for a moment, not sure what to say. "I like him."
"But you also like Beau."
Mia nodded.
"That could be a problem."
She nodded again.
Veronica shook her head. "Be careful, dear." That was all she said before she stood and headed toward the door.
"What do you mean?" Mia called after her, wondering exactly what she was getting at.
But Veronica didn't stop, she only shook her head one more time before she exited the room, leaving Mia all alone with her thoughts.
