Never Just Friends

A Moment of Weakness

Ch. 172 / 300 Mar 01, 2026

The night was quiet, but the air in Elordi’s car felt charged with an unspoken tension. Hanna sat in the passenger seat, her body slumped slightly, the weight of the world pressing down on her chest. She stared out the window, watching the streetlights blur as they passed by, lost in her thoughts. Her mind was a whirlwind of doubt, frustration, and fear—Ciara’s constant attacks, the fragile state of her relationship with Finn, and the dangerous path she was walking with Elordi.

“You look like you need a distraction,” Elordi’s voice broke through the silence, smooth and casual, but there was an edge to it—something sharper, more perceptive than usual.

Hanna didn’t answer immediately. She couldn’t. She didn’t even know how to begin explaining the chaos in her head. So, she simply muttered, “I don’t need anything.”

Elordi’s smirk was evident even in the dim light of the car, though there was a softness in his voice when he replied. “Liar,” he said, his tone low, the words almost teasing. “You’re carrying the weight of the world, and it’s exhausting you.”

Hanna turned toward him, her chest tightening at his observation. There was something in his voice that made it feel less like a casual comment and more like a truth he had seen deep within her—something she wasn’t ready to confront. She didn’t need to be reminded of how heavy everything felt. The pressure from all sides, the constant worry about Ciara, and the distance growing between her and Finn. It was suffocating.

“I’m fine,” she said, her voice barely above a whisper, as if saying it enough times might make it true. She stared out the window again, avoiding his gaze. But she couldn’t hide the tightness in her jaw, the way her fingers clenched around the hem of her sleeve.

“Are you?” Elordi’s voice was closer now, no longer playful but serious. “Because I don’t think you are. You’re trying so hard to keep everything together, but it’s breaking you, Hanna. You can’t keep pretending that you’re fine when you’re not.”

Her heart skipped a beat. She didn’t want to hear it—didn’t want to acknowledge how fragile she felt—but Elordi was right. She was drowning in it all, the weight of the rumors, the lies, the growing distance from Finn. It was like she was trying to hold everything together with fraying strings. And every day, it felt like more of those strings were slipping away.

“What do you want, Elordi?” she asked, her voice cracking slightly as she turned to face him. It wasn’t a challenge—just a simple question, one she needed to ask. She knew he had an agenda, but she had no idea how deep it went. Every time they spoke, it felt like they were stepping closer to a line that couldn’t be uncrossed.

Elordi didn’t flinch at her question. His eyes were dark, his expression unreadable, but there was something behind that mask—a quiet understanding, maybe even a hint of empathy that caught her off guard. He leaned closer, just enough for her to feel the heat of his presence, his gaze intent on hers.

“The question is, what do you want?” Elordi’s voice dropped, the teasing tone replaced with something more serious, more personal. “You want to keep playing by everyone else’s rules? Let Ciara win? Or do you want to take control? Do you want to end this?”

For a moment, the world outside the car ceased to exist. The sound of the engine faded, the night air thick with the tension between them. Hanna’s heart raced, the weight of the decision she was facing suddenly heavier than ever. She could feel the temptation building inside her, a whisper to give in to the chaos, to let Elordi lead her down a path that was as dark and twisted as he was. But that wasn’t what she wanted.

Not really.

“I want Ciara gone,” Hanna said firmly, the words leaving her mouth with a sense of finality. It wasn’t just a desire anymore—it was a necessity. She couldn’t keep living like this, constantly looking over her shoulder, wondering when the next attack would come. She had to end this, for herself and for Finn. She had to find a way to stop Ciara’s reign of terror once and for all.

Elordi’s smirk faded, his expression softening for a moment. In that brief moment, Hanna saw something she hadn’t expected—sincerity. It was rare for Elordi to show any vulnerability, but for a fleeting instant, his eyes were not filled with mischief or arrogance. Instead, there was something that almost resembled understanding.

“Then let’s make it happen,” he said quietly, his voice steady, unwavering. “We can end this. But it’s going to take more than just evidence. We’ll need to hit her where it hurts. And I know exactly how to do that.”

Hanna’s breath caught in her throat. She didn’t know whether she should be relieved or terrified. Part of her wanted to believe that this was the way out, that Elordi’s knowledge and influence could be the key to putting an end to Ciara’s manipulation. But the other part of her, the part that feared the consequences of going too far, hesitated.

She didn’t respond immediately, the weight of his words sinking in. The line between right and wrong was blurring, and Hanna wasn’t sure how much longer she could walk that line without losing herself. But at that moment, with Elordi’s gaze locked on hers and the offer hanging in the air, she knew there was no turning back.

Whatever it took, she would make sure Ciara’s reign was over.

But at what cost?
