Never Just Friends

The Confrontation

Ch. 195 / 300 Mar 01, 2026

The evening felt heavy with the weight of what Hanna had to do. She had spent the entire day replaying the video in her mind, the doubts slowly building like a storm inside her. She couldn’t wait any longer—she had to confront Finn. The questions were eating at her, and the silence between them had grown unbearable.

Hanna found him in the living room, sitting on the couch, lost in thought. She stood in the doorway for a moment, her heart racing as she gathered the courage to ask the question that had been plaguing her all day.

“What is this?” she asked, holding up her phone, the video of Finn and Ciara playing on the screen.

Finn’s eyes immediately widened as he saw the video. His face paled, and for a moment, Hanna saw the flicker of something she couldn’t quite read in his expression. Panic? Guilt? She wasn’t sure.

“This isn’t what it looks like, Hanna. I swear,” Finn said quickly, his voice urgent.

Hanna felt her chest tighten at his words. What does he mean? Her hands trembled as she clutched the phone tighter. “Then what is it?” she demanded, her voice trembling despite her best effort to remain calm. She needed answers, and this time, she wasn’t willing to back down.

Finn stood up, running a hand through his hair, his frustration evident in every line of his face. “It’s Ciara, Hanna. She’s twisting everything, just like she always does. She cornered me after school that day. She started talking about us, saying things that didn’t make any sense. I told her to leave me alone, but… I don’t know how she got that picture.”

Hanna listened, her heart pounding in her chest. She wanted to believe him. She wanted to trust him, to believe that this was just another one of Ciara’s manipulations, but the weight of the video in her hands was undeniable. The blurry image of Finn and Ciara standing close to each other—it didn’t look good.

“But why didn’t you tell me?” Hanna’s voice cracked, the question that had been gnawing at her finally slipping out. “You told me you wanted to keep me safe from all this, but you never said anything about her confronting you. Why keep this from me?”

Finn’s face faltered as he looked at her, and for a moment, Hanna saw the doubt in his eyes. He took a deep breath, as though weighing his words carefully. “I didn’t want to bring more attention to her. I thought it would be over once I shut her down, and I didn’t want to make it worse by involving you. But I should’ve told you, and I’m sorry.”

Hanna stood there in silence, her mind racing. She wanted to believe him, to believe that Finn had been doing the right thing by not dragging her into the mess Ciara had created. But the lingering feeling in her chest told her something different. Why didn’t he tell me the truth sooner?

“I need time, Finn,” she said quietly, her voice breaking as she tried to keep her composure. “I can’t keep doing this. I don’t know if I can keep pretending everything’s fine when it feels like we’re drowning in lies.”

Finn’s eyes softened, but his frustration was replaced by something else—something she couldn’t quite place. “Hanna… I love you. I never wanted any of this. And I know I’ve made mistakes, but I swear to you, I didn’t do anything wrong. I’m not trying to hurt you.”

Tears pricked at the corners of Hanna’s eyes, but she held them back. She couldn’t let herself break, not now. “I know you didn’t want to hurt me, Finn,” she whispered. “But the doubt, the lies… it’s too much. I need to figure out where we go from here.”

Finn reached out, his hand gently brushing hers, but Hanna pulled away, her heart heavy with the weight of the decision she had to make. She couldn’t ignore the nagging feeling that something wasn’t right. Her trust had been shattered, and now, the pieces of their relationship felt like they were slipping through her fingers.

“I need space,” Hanna said quietly, her voice barely above a whisper. “Please understand.”

Finn looked at her, his face a mixture of sorrow and understanding, but Hanna could see the hurt in his eyes. She didn’t want to hurt him, but she couldn’t keep living in uncertainty. Not with everything Ciara had done, not with the way everything had changed so quickly.

As Hanna turned to walk away, she heard Finn’s voice, soft but filled with a pain that mirrored her own.

“I’ll be here, Hanna. Whenever you’re ready.”

But as she walked away, the weight of the distance between them was too much to bear. How do you rebuild trust when everything you thought you knew feels like a lie?

Hanna didn’t have the answer, but she knew one thing for sure: the storm that had been brewing for months wasn’t over. It had only just begun.
