Mated by Mistake

Taking care of the Luna

Ch. 50 / 77 Apr 22, 2025

Rosalie's dreams were filled with visions of the future, imagining herself with Alex and their children. She saw them running through the fields, their laughter echoing through the air. She envisioned Alex teaching them how to shift, their little faces filled with awe and wonder. The dreams were so vivid that when she woke up, she felt a pang of longing.

The first thing that came to Rosalie's mind was that Alex had to be with his betas, and she was correct in her assumption. Her thoughts were carefully guarded. She didn't want him to find out about the pregnancy just yet. She longed for her mother to be there so she could ask her about how she had broken the news to her father when they were expecting a child.

As she nodded off, she curled up in a ball on her bed, assuming the foetal position. It wasn't that she didn't want to be pregnant; she was actually thrilled to be carrying Alex's baby. It was just that the timing didn't work out. Chris was still obsessed with her, and he was hatching some sort of nefarious plan to win her over. It was obvious from the fact that he had barred her family from even attending the feast, and he had been sleeping around with Omegas and causing trouble for his pack. She was concerned about how she would break the news to her parents that she was pregnant. She couldn't even talk to them. They would be ecstatic at the thought of becoming grandparents.

She used her fingertips to massage her tummy, which was feeling a little bloated. She chuckled to herself because she found it funny. The average human pregnancy lasts for nine months, yet the gestation period for wolves is only five to six months. The doctor had said she was six weeks pregnant, which meant that she wouldn't be carrying the baby for very long. She tired of feeling for a bump or a tiny lump. But her tummy was still flat.

'One,' she prayed, 'let it be one!' She could handle two, but anything more than that would be torture for her.

'How are you doing, love?' The sound of Alex's voice echoed in her head. When she opened her eyes.

'Do you feel exhausted, love?' he inquired in a loving manner.

'Yeah, I am exhausted as hell,' she replied. 'When are you coming back, my love? The bed is cold without you.' She said it naughtily.

'Love, if it were in my hands, I'd be there warming the bed with you, naked.'

'Then why aren't you already here? Naked?' she inquired.

'I'm sorry, but I have to go somewhere,' he explained.

She came to the realisation that she would not be seeing him for a long time.

'Where are you going?'

'To meet Alpha Anderson and then Alpha Jackson. We needed to meet with the other alphas and provide them with an update on Chris. I have to tell them that he is trying to inflame a pack war.'

She didn't want to tell him about her pregnancy right now because he sounded stressed.

'Be safe, Alex. I love you,' she said as she yawned.

She got out of bed and walked to the window. The moon was high in the sky, casting a silvery glow over the landscape. She rested her hand on her belly, feeling a deep connection to the life growing inside her.

"I wish you were here, Alex," she whispered to the night. "I wish you could see how beautiful our future will be."

*************

Sarah’s voice was pleasant as she softly knocked on the door. “Hey, Rosalie!” she called.

Rosalie groaned, unable to bring herself to open her eyes. It would be nice if everyone would just leave her alone, she thought. She was completely exhausted and had slept off again. The sweet voice knocked on the door once more. Rosalie buried her face in a pillow, hoping the noise would fade away as she slowly drifted back to sleep.

“I told you we shouldn’t have come!” Janet’s voice hissed. “She’s probably asleep. We should go.”

“No! She might be hungry! I can’t let my niece or nephew starve inside her,” Sarah protested.

“Well, Madam Luna isn’t answering our call. What else can we do?” Janet drawled back.

The mere utterance of the word “food” was enough to jolt Rosalie out of her sleep. Her stomach growled, and she experienced a sudden surge of hunger. She removed the pillow from her face, sat up, and assumed a cross-legged position on the bed. She yawned and stretched a few times before getting up to open the door.

Both Sarah and Janet stood up straight and gave her a kind grin. “Did we disturb your sleep?” chirped Janet.

“Janet, are you absolutely deaf and blind?” Sarah let out a snort, pointing to Rosalie’s drowsy face. “Of course we did.”

The lovely features of Sarah’s face were scrunched up in shame. “Please accept our apologies.”

A grin appeared on Rosalie’s face. “There is no need to apologise. How may I help you?”

Sarah grinned and moved to the side as the aroma of freshly roasted meat assaulted Rosalie’s senses. “We brought food for you, Rosalie,” Sarah said, stepping aside to reveal a cart laden with several plates of dishes.

“I wanted to come earlier, but I didn’t want to disturb you. But I couldn’t let my niece and nephew go hungry, could I?” Sarah’s eyes twinkled with mischief.

“You told her?” Rosalie addressed Janet and Ashley as they wheeled in the food cart.

.

“It’s not their fault. I commanded them to tell me. I saw you leaving the infirmary and was worried,” Sarah said warmly.

“Hmm, have you told your brother?” Rosalie asked.

“No, not at all! I haven’t, but I understand your desire to surprise him. However, I am disappointed that you did not inform me.” Sarah pouted.

Rosalie smiled at her, realising that she shouldn’t have kept it from Sarah, but it hadn’t struck her to share it with her. Sarah wanted to become one of her betas, but Rosalie had declined, saying she was too young and that, as an Alpha female, she wasn’t required to do beta duties.

“I’m sorry about that. I only found out about it this morning and was too exhausted to do anything about it. It didn’t occur to me to inform you. Please accept my apologies.”

Sarah stared at her incredulously. “Oh! You don’t need to apologise; you are my Luna.”

Rosalie burst out laughing. “As I said earlier, I am a modern-age Luna. So, what do you have for me?” Rosalie inquired, her gaze falling on the cart.

Janet and Ashley removed the cover from the dishes. “We weren’t sure what kind of food cravings you might be having, so we just got everything which was in the kitchen,” Janet exclaimed with pride.

Rosalie snatched a piece of meatloaf from the cart. “That looks delicious.”

She was amused by their efforts.

“I am glad Alex chose you rather than some stuck-up Alpha princess who would boss us around,” Ashley said.

Rosalie giggled, wondering how Grace was coping with a cheating mate. What would she do if one of his flings became pregnant? The thought made Rosalie shudder.

They ate and chatted for a while. Rosalie wasn’t hungry anymore, but she still felt a bit tired. The idea of going back to bed looked appealing. Sarah must have noticed the look on her face because she quickly added, “Excuse us, Rosalie. We wish we could stay longer, but we have duties to attend to.”

Rosalie returned to the comforts of her bed as soon as they left her alone. She slid under her duvet and wished that Alex was there to curl his arms around her. Alex, come back soon, she thought.

Rosalie lay in bed, reflecting on the day’s events. The news of her pregnancy was still sinking in, and she couldn’t help but feel a mix of excitement and apprehension. She placed her hand on her belly, imagining the life growing inside her. She wondered how Alex would react when she finally told him. She hoped he would be as thrilled as she was.

Just as she was about to drift off to sleep, she heard a soft knock on her door again. She groaned, wondering who it could be this time. She reluctantly got out of bed and opened the door to find Dr. Rachel standing there.

“Rosalie, I just wanted to check on you,” Dr. Rachel said with a warm smile. “How are you feeling?”

“I’m okay, just tired,” Rosalie replied.

“That’s to be expected,” Dr. Rachel said. “Pregnancy can take a toll on your body. Make sure you get plenty of rest and eat well.”

“I will,” Rosalie promised.

“If you need anything, don’t hesitate to call me,” Dr. Rachel said. “And remember, it’s important to take care of yourself.”

"Ummm I wanted to know, when will I get a baby bump ?"

Dr. Rachel chuckled softly. "Every woman's body is different, but you should start to see a baby bump around the fourth month," she explained. "Just be patient and take care of yourself in the meantime."

“Thank you, Dr. Rachel,” Rosalie said.

As Dr. Rachel left, Rosalie felt a sense of reassurance. She knew she was in good hands. She closed the door and went back to bed, feeling more at ease.
