Luna Aurora

Chapter 422

Ch. 422 / 450 May 05, 2026

The shadow vortex raged in front of Elyra, a swirling mass of darkness that threatened to consume everything it touched. The air crackled with malevolent energy, a force so powerful that it seemed to distort reality itself. The Lunar Heart in Elyra’s hands flickered weakly, its light barely visible against the overwhelming darkness. She had already given so much of her strength to hold the vortex at bay, but now she could feel it slipping, the Heart’s power faltering with each passing moment.

Her breath was shallow, her body trembling from the effort. She had reached the limit of her strength, and the Heart was weakening—its light diminishing like the last embers of a dying flame. Elyra gritted her teeth, her mind racing. She couldn’t let it end like this. Not after everything they had fought for.

With a shaky breath, Elyra pressed the Lunar Heart closer to her chest. She could feel its warmth, the faint pulse of its magic, but it wasn’t enough. Not nearly enough. She had to do more. She had to stabilize the vortex before it consumed everything—before it consumed Dain.

“No,” Elyra whispered to herself, the words almost lost in the cacophony of the swirling shadows. “I won’t let it end like this. Not like this.”

She closed her eyes, drawing deep into herself, pulling from a place she didn’t know existed—somewhere deep within her soul. It was dangerous, reckless even, but she couldn’t bring herself to care. She had to save Dain. She had to save them all.

The Lunar Heart flared with a faint pulse of light as Elyra poured her life force into it, channeling every last drop of her energy into the Heart. The power surged through her veins, burning her from the inside out, but it was worth it. She could feel the vortex waver for a moment, the swirling darkness hesitating as the Heart’s light began to push back against it. She wasn’t strong enough, not on her own, but with the Heart… maybe, just maybe, it could work.

But as the light intensified, Elyra’s vision blurred. She could feel herself weakening, her body slowly being drained by the Heart’s demands. It was too much. She could already feel the edges of her consciousness slipping away, her strength vanishing.

“Elyra!” Selene’s voice cut through the haze, sharp and urgent. Elyra opened her eyes, struggling to focus on the Alpha’s face, her expression filled with worry. “You have to stop! You’re using too much of your energy. If you keep going, you’ll destroy yourself!”

Elyra shook her head, her grip tightening around the Lunar Heart. “I can’t stop now, Selene. Not when Dain is still in there. I can’t let the darkness win. Not after everything we’ve sacrificed.”

Selene’s expression faltered, her lips pressing into a tight line. She knew the cost of Elyra’s decision, and she wasn’t sure if they could afford it.

“You’re not thinking clearly,” Selene said, her voice soft but insistent. “We’ve lost so much already. You can’t save everyone, Elyra. Sometimes, the hardest choice is the right one.”

Elyra’s heart clenched at Selene’s words, but her resolve hardened. She had never been the one to make the easy choice. She had never been the one to walk away when there was still a chance to save someone. Dain was still her brother. The bond between them was unbreakable. She refused to believe it was too late.

“I won’t leave him,” Elyra whispered, her voice firm. “I won’t leave him behind.”

Selene’s eyes searched Elyra’s face, her own expression torn between fear and resignation. She understood Elyra’s determination, but she also knew the cost of defying the impossible.

“Elyra, please…” Selene began, but Elyra interrupted her, her voice cutting through the air with a finality that brooked no argument.

“Get out of my way, Selene,” Elyra said, her tone resolute. “I’m going to save him. Even if it costs me everything.”

Selene hesitated, but in the end, she nodded, stepping back reluctantly. “Then go, but don’t expect me to let you do it alone.”

Cassian stood nearby, silent, but his eyes were filled with unspoken concern. The vortex continued to grow stronger, the shadows closing in on them. Time was running out. Elyra could feel it—the darkness creeping closer, the pull of the vortex becoming stronger.

She stepped forward, towards the center of the vortex, her body trembling with exhaustion, but her will unshaken. The Lunar Heart flickered one last time, and with a final surge of energy, Elyra pushed forward, stepping into the swirling mass of darkness.

As she crossed the threshold, the cold air wrapped around her like a vice, and the shadows clawed at her, pulling at her very soul. The light of the Lunar Heart dimmed as she fought against the torrent of darkness, but it was still there, a tiny beacon in the overwhelming storm. Her life force drained with each step, but Elyra refused to stop. She couldn’t—wouldn’t—let the shadows claim Dain, not when she still had a chance.

She felt the vortex’s pull growing stronger, the shadows tightening around her, and then she saw him. Dain stood before the shard, a twisted version of himself, his body consumed by darkness, his eyes glowing with an unnatural light.

“Dain!” Elyra cried out, her voice filled with desperation.

He turned to her, his expression cold, his eyes filled with a deep, unrecognizable emptiness. “Elyra,” he said, his voice low and hollow. “You should have let me go.”

Elyra stepped closer, ignoring the pain that wracked her body. She had come too far to stop now. She would not leave him in this state.

“Please,” Elyra whispered, her voice trembling. “I won’t leave you behind.”

-: Elyra refuses, stepping into the vortex to reach Dain.
