Luna Aurora

Chapter 449

Ch. 449 / 450 May 05, 2026

The chamber was alive with shadow and light, their clash sending tremors through the ancient tomb. Elyra tightened her grip on the Lunar Heart, its light pulsing faintly in her hand. Around her, tendrils of shadow spiraled out from the Wraith’s massive form, clawing at the air as if seeking to devour her entirely.

“Stay close to me!” Elyra shouted, glancing at Dain.

His jaw was set, his eyes locked on the Wraith, but she didn’t miss the way his hand trembled at his side. The mark on his palm burned a deep, glowing crimson, pulsing in sync with the Wraith’s movements.

“Welcome, ascendants,” the Wraith’s voice rumbled, low and resonant. It seemed to come from every direction, filling the chamber with its oppressive weight. “You have come far, but this is where your story ends.”

Elyra raised her hand, summoning a burst of light that cut through the nearest tendrils. They recoiled, hissing like living creatures, but the reprieve was short-lived. The shadows surged again, relentless.

“We’re not here to listen to your riddles!” Elyra shouted, stepping forward. “We’re here to end this.”

The Wraith chuckled, its colossal form rippling with dark energy. “You cannot end what was never meant to die. I am the shadow that binds you, the truth you cannot escape.”

Beside her, Dain shifted uneasily. Elyra glanced at him, worry creeping into her voice. “Are you all right?”

“I’m fine,” he muttered, though the strain in his voice betrayed him. His hand clenched into a fist, the mark glowing brighter.

Elyra turned back to the Wraith, summoning another surge of light. This time, the tendrils shattered under her attack, momentarily exposing the Wraith’s core—a swirling mass of shadow and light, chaotic and unyielding.

Dain joined in, launching streams of shadow energy that collided with the Wraith’s core. For a brief moment, it seemed they were gaining the upper hand. The Wraith recoiled, its form flickering like a flame in the wind.

But then the mark on Dain’s hand flared, and the Wraith’s laughter echoed through the chamber. “Yes… feed me, ascendant. Your power is mine to wield.”

Elyra’s heart sank as she saw Dain falter, his face contorted in pain. “Dain! Stop!”

He dropped to one knee, clutching his hand. The mark burned brighter, its glow illuminating the dark chamber. Elyra rushed to his side, her voice urgent. “Dain, it’s using you! The mark—it’s feeding on your power!”

“I… I can’t stop it,” he gasped, his breathing ragged. Sweat dripped down his face, and his eyes flickered between their usual color and an eerie, shadowy black.

“Yes, you can,” Elyra said firmly, gripping his arm. “You’re stronger than this, Dain. You have to fight it!”

The Wraith’s voice interrupted, smooth and mocking. “Stronger? No, little Luna. He is mine. He has always been mine.”

Elyra’s grip tightened as she turned to face the Wraith. “He’s not yours! He’s not a part of your shadow!”

The Wraith’s laughter was a cold, chilling sound. “You truly believe that? Look at him, Elyra. Look at the mark. It binds us. It defines him.”

Dain groaned, the mark flaring again. The shadows around him grew thicker, coiling like serpents. Elyra’s heart pounded as she tried to summon more light, but the Lunar Heart’s glow was dimming.

The Wraith stepped closer, its towering form casting a long shadow over them. “Dain, my chosen… why do you resist? You are mine. Accept it, and I will make you whole.”

“Don’t listen to it, Dain!” Elyra pleaded. “You’re stronger than this. You’ve fought this before. You can fight it again.”

For a moment, Dain’s eyes cleared, and he looked at her with a flicker of hope. He raised his free hand, summoning a surge of shadow energy that clashed with the Wraith’s tendrils.

But the effort was too much. The mark on his hand burned brighter than ever, and the shadows surged forward, engulfing him completely.

“No!” Elyra screamed, lunging forward, but the shadows threw her back with a violent force. She hit the ground hard, the Lunar Heart slipping from her grasp.

The Wraith loomed over her, its form towering and unstoppable. “You cannot save him,” it said, its voice filled with dark triumph. “He belongs to the shadow. He belongs to me.”

Elyra struggled to her feet, her eyes blazing with determination. “You’re wrong,” she said, summoning the last remnants of her power. “I’ll never let you have him.”

She launched a desperate attack, a beam of light that struck the Wraith’s core. For a moment, it faltered, its form flickering. But then it laughed again, louder this time, and the shadows around it surged.

“You cannot defeat me,” the Wraith said, its voice filled with certainty. “This is the end, ascendant. The end of your fight. The end of your light.”

The shadows around it churned, and for a moment, Elyra thought she saw Dain’s face within them, his expression one of anguish. “Elyra…” his voice whispered, faint and broken.

Then the shadows closed in, and he was gone.

: The Wraith stood tall, its eyes burning brighter as it declared, “He is mine now. And soon, so shall the light be.”
