Chapter 443

Ch. 443 / 450 May 05, 2026

The silence of the Crimson Isles was heavy as the group stood at the edge of the ruins, their breaths shallow and cautious. The air felt thicker here, as if it were alive and pressing against their skin. Elyra adjusted the grip on her blade, her palm burning faintly from the glowing sigil.

“These ruins… they’re older than anything we’ve seen,” Selene murmured, brushing a vine away from the crumbled stone. The carvings beneath were jagged but intricate, depicting stories that seemed to twist and turn within the stone itself.

Dain stood close, his body tense. “This place doesn’t just feel wrong—it feels alive,” he said, his voice low. “And it doesn’t want us here.”

Elyra crouched beside Selene, studying the carvings. The stone depicted a massive, shapeless figure, tendrils of darkness stretching toward the sun and moon. Around it, smaller figures knelt, their heads bowed in submission.

“This isn’t just history,” Elyra said, her voice barely above a whisper. “This is a warning.”

Selene’s fingers traced the carvings as her expression darkened. She pressed her palm against the stone, and it pulsed faintly. The carvings lit up in a soft, golden glow before a cold voice echoed in her mind, speaking words that only she could understand.

Her eyes widened as she stepped back, her voice trembling slightly. “The Harbinger of Eternal Eclipse,” she translated aloud. “A force older than the shard, older than the packs. It doesn’t just command the shadow—it is the shadow. A being born of chaos, seeking to merge light and darkness into destruction.”

Cassian frowned as he joined them, his gaze flicking between Selene and the carvings. “If it’s older than the shard, does that mean the shard was… what? A piece of it?”

Selene shook her head, stepping closer to the stone. “The shard wasn’t the source,” she said, her voice tight with dread. “It was just a tool, a fragment of its power. The Wraith is something much worse. It’s the origin of the shadow itself.”

Elyra felt her chest tighten as she stared at the carving. “The shard was just the beginning,” she said, her voice barely audible. “The real threat has been waiting all along.”

Dain turned sharply, his hand tightening on the hilt of his blade. “We’re not alone,” he said, his voice cutting through the growing tension.

The group froze, the air growing colder around them. Elyra’s pulse quickened as a low, guttural whisper drifted through the clearing.

“You should have stayed away, little Luna,” the voice hissed, dripping with malice.

Elyra spun, her eyes scanning the shadows, but there was nothing there. “Who’s there?” she demanded, her voice firm despite the chill running down her spine.

Dain stepped closer to her, his posture protective. “Show yourself!” he called out, his voice echoing through the ruins.

The voice laughed, deep and mocking, resonating from every direction. “So eager to meet your end,” it sneered. “But all in due time. For now… run.”

The ground beneath them shook violently. Cracks spread through the stone as the carvings began to glow with a sickly red light. A black mist seeped from the cracks, coiling around the ruins like tendrils.

“Move!” Selene shouted, pulling Elyra to her feet.

The group bolted for the treeline, dodging falling debris as the ruins crumbled into dust. The black mist followed, spreading rapidly as it consumed everything in its path.

Elyra glanced over her shoulder, her heart pounding. The mist swirled into a massive, shifting form, its edges jagged and undefined. Red eyes blinked open within the darkness, piercing and unrelenting as they locked onto her.

Dain grabbed her arm, pulling her forward. “Don’t stop!” he barked.

They reached the safety of the forest, panting heavily as they turned to face the ruins. The swirling mass of shadow loomed over the rubble, its red eyes glowing brighter.

“You cannot stop what is already in motion,” the voice hissed, softer now but no less chilling.

Elyra’s hand burned, the sigil on her palm flaring with sudden intensity. She winced, clutching it tightly as the voice whispered once more, this time directly into her ear.

“You should have stayed away, little Luna,” it said, its tone dripping with malice.

The air around them seemed to hum with energy as the mist began to retract, pulling itself back toward the ruins. The red eyes lingered for a moment longer before vanishing into the darkness.

Cassian spoke first, his voice breaking the tense silence. “That wasn’t just shadow magic. That was something else entirely.”

Selene nodded, her expression grim. “The carvings warned us, but I didn’t think…” She trailed off, shaking her head. “This Wraith, this Harbinger—it’s more than just a being. It’s a force. And it’s awake.”

Elyra took a deep breath, trying to steady herself. “Then we need to figure out how to stop it. If the shard was just a fragment of its power, then destroying it wasn’t enough.”

Dain’s jaw tightened as he stared at the ruins. “If this thing is tied to the shadow, then it’s tied to me. We’ll stop it, but we need a plan.”

Elyra nodded, determination hardening her expression. “We started this fight. We’ll finish it.”

The group turned away from the ruins, heading deeper into the forest as the sigil on Elyra’s palm continued to burn, the faint echo of the voice lingering in her mind.

-: A low, guttural voice whispers in Elyra’s ear: “You should have stayed away, little Luna.”
