Luna Aurora

Chapter 398

Ch. 398 / 450 May 05, 2026

Elyra felt the air shift as they neared the heart of the Rift. The swirling shadows grew thicker, suffocating, and the ground beneath their feet became slick with dark energy. Her heart raced. She could feel him—Dain—closer than ever, yet more distant than she had ever feared. The bond they had once shared, strong as the roots of an ancient tree, was now fraying, snapping with every step they took toward him. She gripped the Lunar Heart tighter, its glow dimming as the Rift twisted around them, draining her strength.

“Stay focused,” Selene urged, her voice barely cutting through the storm. “We’re getting close.”

Cassian nodded, his swords at the ready as they pushed through the darkness. The creatures they had encountered were no longer mere beasts; they were manifestations of the Rift itself, born from the chaos and distortion of the shard’s energy. Elyra could feel it in her bones—the further they went, the more powerful the Rift became. It was as if the land itself was alive, feeding off the conflict between light and shadow.

But none of that mattered now. Dain was ahead. And the closer they got, the more she could feel the shift in the very air around them, the weight of his presence pressing down like an insurmountable force. She couldn’t escape it.

Then, as they passed through a massive opening, the world around them seemed to explode in a violent flash of light and darkness. Elyra stumbled back, her breath catching in her throat as she saw him.

Dain was no longer the brother she had known. He was something else entirely.

He stood in the center of the Rift, his body writhing as the shadows around him seemed to pulse with life, feeding off the immense power he had absorbed. His form flickered between human and something darker, an embodiment of shadow magic itself. His eyes, once warm and full of life, were now nothing but endless voids, swirling with the energy of the shard.

“You’re too late, Elyra,” a voice rang out from the darkness. It wasn’t Dain’s voice—it was deeper, colder, and more commanding. The Warden of Shadows emerged from the shadows, his form towering over Dain like a twisted puppet master. His eyes gleamed with malicious satisfaction as he watched the transformation unfold.

“You’ve walked right into my plan,” the Warden continued, his voice low and menacing. “Dain is no longer a man. He is the vessel of the shard’s power. And now, he is destiny itself.”

Elyra’s heart broke at the sight of her brother, twisted and corrupted beyond recognition. She could feel him still, beneath the surface, struggling, fighting to hold on to the remnants of his humanity. The bond between them had never been stronger, even as it began to shatter in the face of his transformation.

“Dain!” she cried out, her voice raw with emotion. “Please, you don’t have to do this. Fight it. Fight him!”

For a moment, Dain’s eyes flickered, a spark of recognition crossing his features. But it was fleeting. His body pulsed with shadow, his form shifting as the energy of the shard consumed him. The Warden’s voice echoed through the Rift, cold and commanding.

“Don’t listen to her, Dain. She was never your equal. You don’t need her anymore.”

Dain’s fists clenched at his sides, the shadows around him growing more violent with each passing second. Elyra took a step forward, but the ground beneath her feet cracked, sending shockwaves through the Rift. She could feel the power of the shard—its destructive force—rising with every heartbeat.

“Dain, please,” Elyra whispered, her voice cracking. “I’m still here. I’m not giving up on you.”

But Dain’s expression remained vacant, his eyes now fully consumed by the shard’s influence. He turned his gaze to the Warden, who stood by his side like a puppeteer holding the strings. The Warden smiled, his cold eyes gleaming with pride as he watched the transformation reach its peak.

“You are no longer a man,” the Warden said again, this time with more certainty. “You are the embodiment of the shard. You will destroy the light and bring forth a new world. The world of shadow.”

Dain’s body trembled as the shadows swirled around him, his form becoming less solid with each passing moment. Elyra’s heart clenched, and she could feel her connection to him slipping further away, as though a rope was fraying in the storm. But she couldn’t give up—not now, not ever.

She stepped forward, ignoring the danger, her voice shaking but strong. “Dain, I know you’re still in there. You don’t have to be this… thing. I can still save you.”

Dain’s head tilted slightly, as if her words had reached him for just a fraction of a second. But the Warden’s voice cut through, sharp and commanding.

“Enough, Dain!” The Warden’s shadowy form loomed larger. “You are no longer a man—you are destiny itself. Embrace it!”

Dain’s body jerked violently, his eyes glowing with an otherworldly fire as the shard’s power surged through him. The Rift trembled with the force of it, and the ground cracked beneath them. Elyra could feel the last remnants of their bond slipping away, fading into nothingness as Dain fully surrendered to the power of the shard.

“No!” Elyra shouted, her voice desperate. “You’re still my brother!”

But the words fell on deaf ears. Dain’s form became almost entirely shadow, his body consumed by the power of the shard, and the Warden stood beside him, an unseen hand guiding his every move. The Rift seemed to pulse with energy, the destruction of the light imminent.

Elyra’s hands shook as she reached out, the Lunar Heart glowing faintly, but she knew it would not be enough—not against the power of the shard, not against what Dain had become.

-: The Warden pushes Dain to fully surrender, saying, “Your sister was never your equal. You don’t need her anymore.”
