Luna Aurora

Chapter 367

Ch. 367 / 450 May 05, 2026

The Silver Vale felt like it was holding its breath. The air was thick with tension, the kind that preceded a storm. Elyra stood at the edge of the camp, staring into the dark horizon where she knew Dain’s forces gathered strength. Her mind was a whirlwind of fear, determination, and a small, unrelenting hope that she could still save him.

Behind her, the tent flaps rustled as Selene entered, her expression grave. The powerful Luna radiated an aura of calm authority, but even she couldn’t hide the weight of what she was about to propose.

“You called for me?” Elyra asked, though she already knew the conversation wouldn’t bring good news.

Selene nodded, motioning for Elyra to sit. “I’ve been researching the shard’s power, its connection to your brother, and the shadows it commands. There is a way to sever that bond.”

Elyra’s heart leapt at the prospect, but Selene’s tone gave her pause. “What’s the catch?”

Selene sighed, her eyes glowing faintly as she summoned a glowing orb of light magic into her hand. “The ritual is old magic, older than even the packs themselves. It requires a strong bond to the Moon Goddess and the willingness to risk everything. If successful, it will destroy the shard’s hold on Dain—but it will also likely destroy him in the process.”

Elyra’s breath caught in her throat. “Kill him?”

Selene nodded solemnly. “The shard’s power has taken root in his soul. To sever it is to tear apart a piece of who he is. Even if he survives, he won’t be the same.”

The camp was quiet save for the distant howl of a wolf. Elyra stood abruptly, pacing the room as the implications sank in. “There has to be another way. I can’t just… kill my brother.”

Selene’s voice was calm but firm. “You need to decide what matters more—his life or the future of the packs.”

Elyra spun to face her. “Don’t ask me to choose that! I can’t lose him, Selene. He’s all I have left of my family.”

Selene stepped closer, her voice softening. “And what of the families in these packs? What of the wolves who look to you for protection? Dain’s army grows stronger every day, his power twisting the minds of those who follow him. If he marches on Silver Vale, it won’t just be a battle—it’ll be a massacre.”

Elyra shook her head, tears threatening to spill. “There’s still good in him. I’ve seen it. I felt it when he hesitated on the battlefield. I can reach him, I know I can.”

Selene placed a hand on her shoulder. “You may not have the luxury of time to find out.”

Elyra wavered, the weight of her decision crushing. She sank onto a nearby bench, her hands trembling. Memories of Dain flooded her mind—his laughter, his protective nature, the way he used to be before the shard corrupted him. Could she really be the one to end him, even if it meant saving the packs?

“What does the ritual require?” Elyra asked quietly, her voice barely above a whisper.

Selene hesitated before answering. “A tether. Something unbreakable between you and Dain. Your bond as siblings could be enough, but it’s a dangerous gamble. If the bond isn’t strong enough, the ritual could backfire. You might lose yourself in the process.”

The words hung in the air like a noose tightening around Elyra’s throat.

Suddenly, the ground beneath them shuddered violently. The orb of light magic in Selene’s hand flickered before extinguishing altogether. A pulse of shadow rippled through the camp, sending wolves scrambling out of their tents in alarm.

Elyra and Selene bolted outside. The night sky was cloudless, but a dark energy loomed overhead, crackling like distant thunder. In the center of the camp, the shard—safely encased in a warded box—glowed with a menacing light.

“What’s happening?” Elyra demanded.

Selene’s face was pale. “The shard. It’s fracturing.”

The box rattled, and another pulse of shadow erupted, shaking the Silver Vale to its core. Wolves yelped as the energy knocked them off their feet, and the air was filled with the acrid scent of burning ozone.

Elyra staggered forward, her eyes locked on the shard. For a moment, her vision blurred, and she saw Dain—his eyes glowing with dark energy, his face a mask of anguish and power.

“Elyra…” His voice was faint, almost drowned out by the shard’s hum. “Help me.”

The vision shattered as Selene grabbed her arm, pulling her back. “It’s not safe! If the shard fractures completely, the release of shadow magic could destroy this entire camp.”

Elyra steadied herself, her mind racing. She couldn’t let the shard destroy everything she’d fought to protect, but the thought of severing it from Dain’s soul filled her with dread.

The shard pulsed again, this time releasing a shockwave that sent a chilling message through the air.

A single whisper echoed in Elyra’s mind, unmistakably Dain’s voice.

“Choose, sister.”

As the camp scrambled to recover, Elyra stood frozen, her heart torn between love and duty. One choice would save the packs but cost her brother. The other might destroy them all.

And time was running out.
