Chapter 384

Ch. 384 / 450 May 05, 2026

The wind howled across the barren landscape as Dain’s forces swept through the territory, leaving destruction in their wake. Elyra could sense the darkness closing in, the pulse of shadow magic spreading like a disease, tainting everything it touched. She had just received word that a pack loyal to her had been overwhelmed—its Alpha twisted into something unrecognizable, a shadow creature, no longer the noble leader he once was.

“Dain has gone too far this time,” Elyra murmured, her voice filled with a quiet fury.

Beside her, Selene’s face was grim. “This isn’t just about power anymore. It’s about domination. He’s breaking them one by one.”

Elyra’s mind raced. The reports had come in too late. The pack, one of her closest allies, had fallen, its Alpha now a monster under Dain’s control. Her heart clenched at the thought of what they had lost, and yet, in the pit of her stomach, a sickening realization began to form: The more powerful Dain became, the more he could corrupt and twist the very beings he once considered kin. The shards of his humanity were slipping away, consumed by the hunger for more power.

“Elyra,” Selene said, her voice breaking through the haze of Elyra’s thoughts. “You can’t let this happen. If we don’t stop him now, this cycle will never end. He’ll destroy everything.”

The weight of Selene’s words pressed heavily on Elyra’s chest, but she steeled herself. “I won’t let him destroy what’s left,” she said, her voice firm with resolve.

There was no time to waste. Elyra sent Cassian, one of her most trusted warriors, to safeguard the remaining loyal packs. His skills as a tactician and fighter would help ensure they weren’t swallowed by the shadows like the others. With him out protecting the territories, Elyra and Selene would need to regroup and focus on what came next.

“Stay safe,” Elyra called after Cassian, her gaze hardening as he prepared to depart. “Don’t let him turn them.”

“I won’t,” Cassian promised, his voice carrying the weight of his unshakeable loyalty. “I’ll protect them.”

As the last of their forces rode off toward the distant hills, Elyra and Selene stood in silence, watching the smoke rise in the distance. Their world was unraveling. And it felt as though time itself was running out.

“I have to do something,” Elyra whispered, clenching her fists at her sides. “We can’t keep letting him do this.”

Selene placed a hand on her shoulder, her grip firm but comforting. “You will. But not by charging in blindly. Dain is playing a dangerous game, and we have to stay two steps ahead.”

Elyra nodded, but a storm was brewing inside her. Every moment they wasted was another that Dain grew stronger. She needed to act now, before there was nothing left to save.

Suddenly, a dark presence shifted in the air, and Elyra’s heart skipped a beat. Her eyes narrowed as the distant echoes of shadow magic rippled through the winds. She could feel Dain’s power growing, the shadows answering to his call. The time for strategy was running out—he was no longer just a threat to the packs. He was a threat to the very fabric of their world.

“We need to move,” Elyra said, her voice low, filled with urgency. “Now.”

Before they could make another move, a dark messenger appeared from the shadows. A wolf, its eyes glowing with an eerie light, approached them swiftly. The creature’s form shimmered and changed, revealing a twisted version of one of Elyra’s own trusted council members—his face contorted with agony, his body marred by the corruption of Dain’s shadow magic.

Elyra’s stomach churned. The sight of her friend, twisted into something unrecognizable, was a sharp reminder of how much was at stake. The message he brought was clear: Dain was growing bolder.

The wolf spoke in a voice that sounded like a thousand whispers, its tone cold and mocking. “Dain sends his regards,” it hissed, the words carrying a weight of finality. “If you won’t surrender, they will pay the price.”

Elyra’s breath caught in her throat. Her council. Her people. Dain had taken someone from them.

“No,” she said, her voice breaking with the weight of the threat. “He won’t get away with this.”

The creature snarled, its form flickering as though it might dissolve into shadows at any moment. But before Elyra could react, it vanished, leaving only the chilling echo of its words behind.

“Dain knows we’re close,” Selene murmured, her gaze hardening as she processed the message. “He’s closing in.”

“We don’t have much time,” Elyra said, her fists clenched at her sides. “We have to act now—before more fall.”

Her mind raced with a thousand thoughts, each one darker than the last. Dain had just captured a key member of her council, someone who held vital information about their next move. The thought of that person being tortured—or worse—made Elyra’s blood run cold. She would not allow Dain to get away with it.

“We’ll regroup,” Elyra said, her voice filled with resolve. “We’ll take the fight to him.”

“Are you sure you’re ready for that?” Selene asked, her voice quiet but filled with concern. “We don’t know what kind of trap he’s set.”

“I’m ready,” Elyra replied, her gaze hardening. “It’s the only way we can stop him now.”

And with that, the two of them turned toward the dark horizon, knowing that the battle ahead would be the hardest one they had ever fought.

But Elyra was ready. Because this time, she would face Dain head-on. And she would do whatever it took to stop him.
