Gabriel’s POV:
What…? What the hell did he just say?
Taken aback by shock and disbelief, I stayed still in his embrace for a moment, as the situation seemed like an illusion created by my mind! While I was left completely baffled, I could feel his warm breath falling consistently on my shoulder. Moreover, while being held by him, I could also feel the sound of his uncontrollable fast heartbeat, more likely similar to mine.
But amidst that brief silence all of a sudden, the heartache deep within my chest grew stronger. Even though it was the very first time I heard Marcus speaking such tender words to me, instead of pleasing me, I felt more irked!
Unknowingly I was reminded once again of that cursed day when I had to watch that traumatic sight of finding him with another woman when I just wanted to accept him wholeheartedly. My dreams of happily ever after with him were brutally trampled on that day!
Damn it! After shattering my heart with that painful betrayal, how could he speak such sweet words to me now? Why now!?
If…If only he hadn’t betrayed me like that…perhaps we could have become a happily married couple by now! I could have already gotten over my weak feelings for Zordan and never gotten involved with him in the first place! Neither did I have to run away from the pack, nor I would have bothered to seek shelter in the Melhood family.
And most importantly…perhaps my father would have not gotten murdered…Everything would have been perfectly fine in my life…if only…
The impulsive thoughts running through my mind triggered my emotions that unknowingly my eyes swelled with tears. His betrayal was the beginning of the downfall of my life and after when my life has been completely wrecked…this bastard dare to say such things to me?
My overwhelming anger channelized towards him as I quickly pushed him away from me with a jolt. Marcus seemed a little startled at my blunt rejection as he frowned his brows before asking me, “Gabriel? What’s wrong?”
“I should be asking you the same! What the heck is wrong with you? What are you doing??” I scorned bitterly at him with tears in my eyes, curling my palm into a fist.
At my loud grumble, Marcus seemed to retrieve his senses back as he scarped the back of his neck, looking a bit flustered. “I…I am sorry, I was just so emotional to see you again that I suddenly hugged you without my realization. I…I am sorry.”
But his flustered face didn’t lay any impact on me as I coldly stared into him, and asked in a stiff tone, “You didn’t answer my previous question? What are you here at this hour?”
This time, after hearing my question, I could notice his calm expression changing into an irked one. He furrowed his eyebrows and coldly snarled at me, “To be honest, I was in disbelief to learn that you have already moved into Zordan’s room, so I decided to come and check by myself. But, seems like it’s true.
So, are you two really getting engaged?”
The change of expression on his face and his stiff inquiry somehow triggered my conflicted emotions more. I glared coldly into his hazel pupils and said without a flinch, “And why am I suddenly obliged to tell you about my life?”
“Wait a minute, Gabriel!” By this time, he no longer sounded gentle but addressed me with that familiar hoarse tone with which he used to speak to me long ago. He sounded kind of irritated as he grimaced, “You ran away from the pack because you claimed to despise our engagement! You had claimed that you would never bother to involve with the people of this castle so what’s happening now? Why the fuck did you suddenly decide to get engaged to Zordan when your father was murdered just a few days ago!?”
Damn it! That’s why I had deliberately hoped never to run into him again because I was certain, that he would ask me this question. Yes, it was true that I had vowed, never wanted to involve with any people of this castle before running away.
But so many things happened in these six months after I returned back…especially when my feelings for Zordan increased at a frightening pace considering his kind gestures for me. Like any ordinary woman, I also craved a happily ever after…
Only to realize later that in my life, happiness was just a myth! There’s no way I could ever tell anyone that the person of my dreams trapped me in this nightmare and its inevitable to escape anymore.
I lowered my gaze down from him and huffed a deep sigh before I spoke, “You are forgetting an important point here, Prince Marcus. You are the one who cheated on me and compelled me to take such a big step in life.”
“Gosh, how many times do I need to tell you that there was nothing between Lilith and me!?” He sounded a little desperate as he claimed those words, peering a deep gaze into me. “It was just a fling…both of us were heavily drunk before that night and…gosh…
Just why couldn’t you consider it as a small mistake?”
Mistake?
Unknowingly I smiled at his irrelevant remark. It might be some mistake for him to fool around with women…but how do I forgive him for ruining my life with this mistake?
