Gabriel’s POV:
As I left the room, those two guards started following me from behind keeping their close watch. Even though I was walking ahead, I could feel their peering cold gaze on my back shoulder, which stirred an immense discomfort within me.
Since childhood, I had always hated someone having their watch over me even though I was born as a royal noble’s daughter. That’s why, I was grown up with utmost bravery and liberty, unlike other delicate, meek omega daughters of royals.
Sadly, Zordan was also truly aware of my preferences, yet still, I could realize, he was intently doing everything I despised the most!
After a brief awkward march, I could feel a lump of suffocation form in my throat, making me restless. I paused my motion and turned around with a cold glare at them. As I stopped walking, they quickly halted their march too.
Narrowing my orbs, I grumbled, “How long will you keep following me like this? This is making me uncomfortable! I do not wish to be followed around like this! We have almost reached the cremation hall, so just go ahead and I will come there on my own.”
My objection made them exchange perplexed glances with each other. They kept a brief pause before shaking their head in denial, “Pardon us, Milady. But we are strictly commanded to follow you everywhere—”
“Fuck your command!!”
My flare of angst had surpassed every limit of endurance as I lashed at them aloud. Clenching my fist, I lashed out my frustration aloud. “I don’t care whatever your prince asks you to do, but this is suffocating me! Do you think I can still run away after how badly I am trapped here!? I feel like a prisoner being always kept on a watch like this! Just for heaven’s sake, leave me alone at least for a bit—”
“Lady Gabriel?”
All of a sudden, a familiar feminine voice flinched me a bit from behind, cutting in between my grumble. I quickly turned around and my eyes wadded round in shock, as I gazed ahead.
In front of me, a divinely beautiful young woman with a small oval face and wavy blonde hair was standing tall, facing me. She had a cryptic look on her face and her mysterious brown eyes were fixated on me.
Just by having a glance, flames of bitter despair flamed in my heart as I unknowingly grunted at her, “Lilith?”
A small smirk crafted on her face as she bowed her head timidly before me as she mumbled, “It’s been a long time since we met again, Lady Gabriel. I am glad that you still remember me well.”
Of course, how can I forget her existence? Sadly, I still remember everything very precisely no matter how hard I tried to erase that day from my life. And it was proved once again when a sharp throbbing pain stirred in my heart the moment I laid my gaze on her.
Lilith Gisbert, the only beautiful omega daughter of Prime Minister Aiden of the royal kingdom. Not only she was two years younger than me but also she was weaker in comparison to our strengths. But, that reason never made me look down on her, instead, I gladly used to regard her as my little sister.
However, who knew, she would be the first person in my life to give me the taste of painful betrayal!
Keeping a brief pause, she continued again, “Finishing my higher studies, I had just returned back to the castle yesterday and honestly, I was looking forward to meet you. But I really didn’t expect such a grave tragedy to take place here instead!”
While she spoke such vague words to me, all I could do was blankly gaze at her face. She still appeared like an innocent girl even after long 3 years since I had seen her last. But, the only difference was that it didn’t fool me anymore as I was well aware of her real face which was carefully hidden from everyone else.
Staring at my benumbed expression, she cleared her throat and made a morose face as she spoke, “I heard that Chief Advisor Luther has been murdered by an assassin. I must admit, this news has truly devastated my heart. I am terribly sorry for your loss, Lady Gabriel. May his soul rest in peace but do not worry, I will stay by your side in this hard time.” She slowly walked close up to me and grabbed my hand, as she conveyed her condolence.
But the moment I heard her answer, a vicious blaze of anger wrecked me inside.. I realized it was all Zordan’s doing. After all, he had cleverly twisted the truth behind my father’s death, by making him a victim of assassination.
But, how am I supposed to accept this? Just how can I erase the painful memory from my mind? The ugly truth I have seen with my own eyes…will it really let my poor father’s soul rest in peace especially when I know, he became a victim of a gruesome conspiracy!
But what angered me the most was these consoling words coming from her when I knew she perhaps wouldn’t mean any of them!
I clenched my jaw and suppressed my urge for tears as a lump formed in my throat. I unleashed my hand from her grip and glared at her retreating a step away, “Are you really sorry for me? Look, I know we both belong to noble families where we are accustomed to acting accordingly to situations, but at least don’t do it before me. You don’t really have to put up the sorrowful act in front of me, Lilith.”
While I responded back, I found her staring intensely at me by narrowing her brown mystic eyes. She seemed a bit disappointed and peeked a glance at the guards who were standing behind me. With a small sigh, she commanded, “Leave both of us alone for a moment. We have certain things to talk about.”
“I do not wish to have a word with you right at this moment, Lilith.” I strongly objected to her command, retreating a step back further as I scorned, “I would appreciate it if you do not waste my time further and let me go to the cremation hall instead.”
“Lady Gabriel, I know you might still despise me, but…it’s been three long years! How much time do I have to bear your cold shoulder towards me?” With a pitiful look on her face, she asked, gazing deep into me.
But the more I stared at the innocent face she was making, the more it infuriated me. With a pained smirk, I grumbled at her, “Then, how do you expect me to treat the person who brutally betrayed me the most!?”
