The drive to the hospital was tense. Jade sat in the passenger seat of Milan’s car, her hands clenched tightly in her lap. Thiago, seated in the back, tried to lighten the mood with small jokes, but even he couldn’t mask his worry. Enzo remained quiet, his dark eyes focused on the road ahead.
When they arrived, Milan parked the car and they made their way into the building. Jade’s heart pounded with every step as they navigated the sterile white hallways toward the doctor’s office.
The doctor greeted them with a polite smile, gesturing for them to sit. Jade sat closest to his desk, the men flanking her protectively on either side.
“Thank you for coming in so quickly,” the doctor began, his hands folded neatly on the desk. “I have some news regarding your test results.”
Jade’s palms grew clammy as she nodded. “What is it?”
The doctor’s smile softened. “Congratulations, Ms. Jade. You’re pregnant.”
Time seemed to freeze as the words sank in. Jade blinked, her breath hitching. “Pregnant?” she echoed, her voice barely above a whisper.
“Yes,” the doctor confirmed. “Based on the initial results, you’re in the early stages of pregnancy. That’s likely why you’ve been feeling nauseous and fatigued.”
Jade’s mind raced. Pregnant? She hadn’t even considered the possibility. She glanced at the men beside her, her heart pounding.
Thiago was the first to break the silence. “Wait, what?” His usually playful tone was replaced with sheer shock. “Jade, you’re… you’re pregnant?”
Milan’s icy-blue eyes narrowed slightly, though his expression was unreadable. “Are you certain?” he asked the doctor, his voice calm but firm.
“Yes,” the doctor said. “The bloodwork is conclusive. I understand this might be unexpected news, but everything appears to be progressing normally.”
Enzo leaned back in his chair, running a hand through his dark hair. “Well, this changes things,” he muttered, though his tone was more thoughtful than upset.
Jade sat frozen, her mind spinning. “I… I don’t know what to say,” she admitted, her voice trembling. “This is all so sudden.”
The doctor gave her a reassuring smile. “Take your time to process it. For now, I recommend scheduling your first prenatal appointment to monitor the pregnancy. And, of course, if you have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out.”
Jade nodded, still dazed. “Thank you,” she managed, her voice barely audible.
