By the next morning, the men had everything arranged. Jade and Mia were set to fly to a private beach resort, with accommodations that sounded almost too good to be true. Enzo had insisted on sending a few of his men along as security, but they promised to stay in the background.
“You’ll barely notice them,” Enzo assured Jade as she packed her bag. “They’re there to keep you safe, not to intrude.”
Jade nodded, grateful for their thoughtfulness even as she felt a twinge of guilt. “Thank you. I mean it. For everything.”
“You don’t need to thank us,” Milan said, standing in the doorway of her room. “Just focus on relaxing. That’s all we want.”
Thiago popped his head in, a playful grin on his face. “And maybe send us a postcard. Something cheesy.”
Jade laughed, rolling her eyes. “I’ll think about it.”
When the day of the trip arrived, Jade and Mia were both buzzing with excitement. As they boarded the private plane, Mia couldn’t stop talking about all the things they were going to do.
“Spa day, for sure,” Mia said, ticking items off on her fingers. “Beach lounging, lots of cocktails—virgin for you, obviously—and maybe some shopping. Oh, and we have to do a sunset walk on the beach. It’s mandatory.”
Jade smiled, her heart feeling lighter than it had in weeks. “That sounds perfect.”
As the plane took off, Mia leaned over, her voice dropping to a conspiratorial whisper. “So, how are things with your three protective musketeers?”
Jade blushed, looking away. “Complicated.”
“Complicated in a good way or a bad way?” Mia pressed.
Jade thought for a moment before replying. “Good. They’ve been… amazing. I don’t know what I’d do without them.”
Mia smirked. “Well, don’t tell them that too often. Their egos are probably big enough already.”
