Tabitha's POV
I looked at the she-wolf in front of me, who had already turned completely white-haired.
Her fingers were rough, and her face was covered in wrinkles, but there was a kind and uneasy smile on her face.
Aiden had already taken off the hood, revealing a handsome face.
He explained earnestly, "Julia was afraid of hurting the little guy, so she cut her own warm clothes. You should know that Julia only has one set, and it was a gift from Lucian on her birthday."
I looked at the yellowed diapers, and my emotions were complicated for a moment.
I smiled, "This one is good enough."
Kyrian changed drastically in just half a day, taking off his branded clothes.
He put on the clothes of the other werewolf children on the island.
I had no idea how many children had worn it as it was scattered with patches.
But it was thick and relatively warm.
Kyrian was perfectly fine wearing it, following behind me like a little tail.
Sometimes, he would also be curious and want to chase dogs or pull the grass on the roadside. Everything here made him feel amazed.
I initially boarded the ship with a determination to die, but in just half a day, I became accustomed to this island.
It was far less developed than a city but was much cleaner.
I enjoyed the sea breeze while holding Kyrian.
There was a moment when I unexpectedly had the urge to settle down here forever.
But I was very clear that even if this small island was not marked on the map, it would be found anyway.
One day, Derek would reach here.
There were only a few dozen households on the island, and each person was very simple and honest.
Aiden told me this.
They wanted to kidnap Kyrian in exchange for ransom, just to improve the conditions on the island.
The wolf cubs here never went to school and spent their whole lives fishing at sea. If they got injured, they could only leave it to fate.
Though with strong self-healing abilities, some werewolves still died from severe injuries lacking food and resources.
How ironic! Daphne splashed out tens of millions on organizing a birthday party for Kyrian.
The children here, however, salivated over the cake stolen from the kitchen.
Each took a small bite and licked their lips in reminiscence.
What was good and what was evil?
What was right and what was wrong?
As night fell, I smelled the aroma of food, and there was a hint of excitement in Aiden's eyes.
"Tabitha, you're lucky. Julia opened a can of tuna especially to treat you tonight, and we are also in for a treat."
The excitement in Aiden's eyes stabbed me deeply.
Canned food became a rare commodity here.
I grew up in luxury and abundance in the Silver Moon Pack. Although I knew that there were many poor people in the world, experiencing it firsthand was completely different.
I carried Kyrian to the door and found Noah drawing on the ground with burnt charcoal.
I was surprised that he could draw so beautifully. "Have you learned it?"
Aiden said proudly, "We don't even have a teacher, and Lucian taught us to write. Of course, we haven't learned it before. Noah is self-taught! He draws well, right?"
"Not just well, but very good," I sincerely praised.
"Lucian had originally bought him a notebook and pencils, but he said he couldn't bear to, as it's so nice to be able to write and draw on the ground without having to pay. If my younger brother lived in a big city, he would definitely be a great artist too!"
As Aiden said these words, an unparalleled sense of pride flashed across his face, while my mood grew increasingly heavy.
Returning to the largest house on the island, the residents here referred to it as the Packhouse.
In the kitchen, Julia was preparing dinner.
She delicately opened the can of tuna, and the distinct aroma of seafood immediately filled the air.
It brought a touch of ocean freshness to this cramped space.
She gently scattered the fish meat with an old fork and then poured it into a slightly larger bowl.
Then she took out wilted lettuce, a few tomatoes, and half an onion.
She carefully washed these vegetables under the tap, then chopped them into small cubes and mixed them with tuna.
She had no olive oil nor fancy salad dressing, but just a bottle of homemade vinegar sauce made with white vinegar, a little sugar, salt, and pepper.
Julia poured vinegar into the mixture of tuna and vegetables, gently stirring with a fork to coat each piece with the sweet and sour sauce.
Then, she evenly spread the mixed tuna salad onto the hard slices of bread.
Finally, the dish was served on the dining table.
The bread slices absorbed the moisture from the salad and became softer.
The deliciousness of the tuna and the crispness of the vegetables intertwined in the mouth.
I couldn't help but marvel that the most ordinary ingredients could create such satisfying flavors.
After tasting the bread, I noticed that there was roasted chicken and bacon on the table, as well as some canned corn.
I recalled when I was chasing after these guys and ran out of the manor, each of them carried a sack of things.
Those stolen food were extremely precious to them.
Aiden and Noah stared at the meat, but they didn't make any move.
Until Lucian took the largest piece of chicken onto the plate in front of me and gave some to Julia, they started using forks to divide the remaining chicken.
And Lucian himself poured the somewhat shriveled macaroni into the plate.
He looked at us and said, "Eat."
