Tabitha's POV
When Daphne came in with her entourage, I wanted to look up and see her reaction.
But the hand pressing on the back of my head was like an iron clamp, not allowing me to move even a bit. It was infuriated.
I wondered, 'It must feel terrible to be lifted high and then dropped hard.
'Just a moment ago, she was Mrs. Greenwood, the envy of everyone.
'But then she became a pitiful laughingstock.
'Soon, the words of Derek's affair at his son's birthday party would spread. That was exactly what I wanted—to ruin Derek and Daphne's reputation!'
As I expected, there was already a chorus of laughter echoing around us.
"I really thought Derek spoiled her to the moon."
"This is such a slap in the face. If my boyfriend dares to cheat, I'll go give him and his mistress a slap each."
"Tsk, if your husband were Derek, would you do the same? To be Mrs. Greenwood is everyone's envy. I can imagine your regretful tears if he dumps you. "
"You are right. That's why Miss Sutton invited us here. She was to show off by making fun of others, but she ended up being the star of the show herself."
Before I could struggle, Derek carried me out of the room.
I could hear Lyrique's voice come from behind. "Daphne, I'm sorry, I..."
"Get lost!" Daphne shouted fiercely.
Derek carried me out and didn't put me down until nobody was around.
Then, I finally poked my head out of his arms.
Derek asked in a cold voice, "Are you happy now?"
He was not a fool. He could have refused but didn't.
I blinked at him and said, "Why not? Daphne wanted to plot against me, and she got what she deserved. You are feeling sorry for her?"
His eyes were filled with dissatisfaction as he glared at me. "Tabitha, to teach her a lesson, you risked your own reputation. Is it a winning game?"
Derek never revealed his emotions, but at that moment, he let out all his feelings to me.
"Have you ever thought about the consequences? You make her embarrassed, but does it change anything? People laugh it off, and her position remains unshakable. Yet you'll bear the label of a homewrecker. Everyone would poke at you if I didn't cover your face. What about your future life then? You win now, but lose in the long run," he said.
But facing his furious eyes, I laughed.
He looked more agitated by my reaction. "You still find it funny? You really know nothing about what will come after."
I chuckled, "At worst, I would be insulted and criticized. So what? If it comes to that, Derek, you should be happy. Why are you so angry?"
I gently stroked his cheek and asked softly, "You hate me to the core, don't you? So why? Are you worried about me?"
He was visibly frustrated. "Tormenting you is my personal matter, what does it have to do with others?"
I continued, "Derek, if one day you found out that my father was not the real culprit who harmed Elena, would you regret what you did to me?"
Derek approached, his voice cold and indifferent, "What do you mean?"
I didn't answer, but looked up at the sky and said, "Look, what a nice day."
"Tabitha, answer me!" he urged.
I turned serious, facing him. "Derek, today is the anniversary of our baby's passing. Did he ever cross your mind, even for a moment?"
He tightened his grip on my shoulder, his lips pressed tightly together. "Tabitha, after all, that was our child."
But I laughed lightly, "I thought he was just a pawn for you to retaliate against me."
"Why would you think it that way?" He furrowed.
Derek was to add something when Alvin hurriedly ran over.
Alvin whispered a few words in Derek's ear.
Then, Derek turned back to me and handed me a room key, saying, "Go back to the room and get changed, and no one will know it was you. I will take care of the rest."
After that, he ordered Alvin, "Inform the guards, prepare the fireworks early."
"Yes, Alpha Derek," Alvin responded and went off to make arrangements.
Derek glanced at me again before turning around and leaving.
I thought, 'He must have been overwhelmed by Daphne's actions.'
After they left, I just stood there by the window in the corridor, watching the scenery outside.
Before long, fireworks began to bloom, lighting up the sky.
The dazzling fireworks made everyone forget the previous embarrassment, letting them enjoy the beauty of the moment.
Everyone, even those in high places, can't resist fleeting beauty.
People left the castle and gathered on the grassland outside, talking.
"Tabitha." At that moment, a man's voice sounded behind me.
I turned around and saw the Alpha of the Red Moon Pack, Obadiah.
I lowered my voice and asked, "Alpha Obadiah, did you find anything?"
He answered, "Well, I didn't have a chance to tell you yet. I've searched according to the clues Orson gave me and found people with similar characteristics. Take a look at these and see if you recognize anyone."
He sent me the photo.
"This man..." I stared at one face.
"His name is Ethan Reed, a doctor for the wolf, but not employed at the public hospital. He occasionally goes there for exchanges. Do you know him?"
