Lucianna’s POV

“You’re in a daze again, Luce.”

I tilted my head and saw Mual standing at my side with a huge grin on his face.

I smiled wryly and sighed as Mual walked closer to where I stood. Currently, this fence beside the lake became my comfort zone. I kill my time in front of this serene scenery, thinking… just thinking.

Two days ago, I managed to leave Jacob, one of the things I am not proud of being successful to do. I must’ve hurt him, I know, because I felt the pain, too. I am hurt, I am shattered by my own decision.

But I have to.

“I can’t help it. I have a lot in my mind, Mual.” I answered and looked at the lake in front of me once more.

Mual chuckled and tapped my back twice. “You just have to trust the process, time will fly fast.”

I nodded slowly.

I was patiently waiting, and though I’m dying inside, I know I can proceed more. I had to wait more.

“The messenger has yet to visit for so long… maybe one of these days she’ll show up.”

I smiled in the air. “Don’t worry, I’m patient.” I looked at him. “Thank you for letting me stay here for a while.”

He grinned and nodded after rolling his eyes. “You are family. Don’t mind it.” then he stood up and stretched his back. “I’ll prepare some things, I need to go back to my pack.”

I nodded and watched as he walked away. I sighed once he was gone.

Mual is the son of my mother’s best friend, Mona. Our mothers came from the same pack, the Chequer pack of the East. Mom travelled to Regal pack as per the result of her mapping ceremony and she met Dad and had me. While Mona’s mate is from Chequer so she didn’t had to switch packs and they had Mual.

Mual and I met at a young age, maybe we’re around five years old that time.

Then fate brought me here, to this abandoned place at the edge of the Chequer pack. There’s a total of four houses here and all belonged to Mual’s family line. The house I’m staying at right now is their house and the other three was owned by Mual’s uncle and aunts.

The reason of why I am here is because of what I found out two days ago… through Roscoe, Jacob’s brother.

Two days ago, after the female fighter’s game of Trivian pack, he told me something that brought havoc to my system.

**

Two days ago…

Why is this bastard here? Of all places, huh? He is not even hiding that he has intentions, what a thick-faced!

“...I’m not giving you the right to call me by my name.” I said with disgust.

Roscoe smiled, a very innocent but full of malice smile that made my hair stood up.

“Forgive me, my Luna. I promise not to make another mistake in your presence.” he said. Harley kept shifting on his seat but I didn’t took my eyes off Roscoe. The bastard fought my deadly gazes, as well.

Huh! I won’t be defeated even in a staring contest, you fucker!

‘You sure hates me, Luna.’ Roscoe said in my mind that almost made me jump.

Oh, right. He is still a Shadow pack wolf, he has the access to connect with my portal.

‘I’m glad you noticed, I’m not hiding it by the way.”

‘Hmm…’

Harley watched us in silence but decided to stick on the fight below. I was about to divert my attention to the game, too but Roscoe spoke in my mind again.

‘Well, I won’t assume that people who knew what I did to my brother will ever liked me. I don’t like myself for doing what I did either.’

My brow raised.

‘Oh, really? Then you did a great job hiding it, Roscoe. We saw no sign of regret from you, not even a drop of it.’

‘I just know how to keep it in my back, its in the past so why should I bother to continue resenting myself for what I did? No one will forgive, anyway.’

‘You can’t say that. You haven’t tried to.’

‘But I know Jacob won’t forgive what I did. Forgiveness of others doesn’t matter, his is all I care of.’

I snorted from that. Seriously? He is saying that to me nonchalantly?

‘You never tried to apologize to Jacob, so how can you expect forgiveness from him? Aren’t you being hypocrite, Roscoe?’

There was a short pause on his side. I am right, I never even once saw him went to Jacob and talk to him when that should be the first thing he had to do when he arrived at the pack. Instead, he came to our house, looking like a threat and running off when Jacob came.

‘Not now, yes. But I did. Years after I was banned from the pack, I came back and I tried to fix things with my brother. I failed.’

Oh? Jacob didn’t mentioned that but I bet Roscoe didn’t do his best because my mate didn’t bother keeping track of the forgiveness he had done.

‘You should have let Jacob break your ribs, maybe he’ll change his mind.’ I didn’t bother to hide the sarcasm there.

Roscoe laughed silently, taking his eyes towards the arena.

‘I did, lady, not just my ribs. All of my bones were broken and cracked so bad that I crawled out of the pack. But he won’t let forgiveness intervene his anger. I understand him, so I decided to back off.’

It was a revelation. I never heard that side of the story but it didn’t changed my mind about how I see him. Roscoe deserves that. That is what I believed, and I still believe.

‘Listen,’ he spoke again when I didn’t respond. ‘I need your help-’

‘There is no way in hell that I will help you in anything. If one, I’d help you kill yourself.’

Roscoe looked at me again. This time, Harley was eyeing me like asking what was going on.

‘Are you two talking in your head?’ was what Harley asked in our portal.

I sighed and noticed the finale has come and its time for me to head down and fight as the last tournament’s champion.

I stood up without looking at Harley or Roscoe. Dylan was waving at me on the other side of the arena, saying that its my time.

“Let’s go down. It’s my time to fight.” I said, directing to Harley who was quick to stand up and followed me.

‘This is Jacob’s life at stake, Lucianna.’ Roscoe said again in my head. I didn’t answer but I was suddenly curious of it.

Why would Jacob be in danger? He can take care of himself, no one can harm him easily, Jacob is an Alpha. Why would I believe him?

‘If you want to know about it. Let’s meet up, your call to which place and time. This is serious, I am not trying to put you or my brother in danger.’

I can say that he was serious when he said those words but isn’t he the manipulative one? I don’t see why I should, somehow, give my trust to him.

If he is saying the truth, then its a bad news. But if ever he is lying, then I won’t lose anything, too.

The match started and ended fast, I don’t have time to play around because my mind was filled with questions and curiosity.

I won the fight, but I don’t feel the need to celebrate.

I’m considering talking to Roscoe, I don’t think I’ll be harmed by him. I could kill him if I’ll want to. And I’m not scared of him.

In the end, I decided to say yes, and allow some time for us to talk.

Roscoe was standing at a far distance as people started swarming out of the arena. His eyes are directed to me, and I know he was waiting for my decision.

‘Meet me at the Hill, at dawn. I’ll contact you again when I’m heading there.’ I said in his portal.

I saw him nod his head and turned to walk away.

This is something I can ignore but I chose to know. I had to know. If this information will harm my Jacob, for real, then I should at least try and protect him. So the first step is to gather information, knowledge that Roscoe may give. I had to protect my mate. Even from hands of his brother.

**

My legs are still trembling when I climbed down of the bed with utmost care and silence. Jacob was sleeping soundly, and I am as exhausted as him. His stamina in sex is… damn, I don’t want to even mention it.

Highly and overly satisfied can’t even define my feelings after every lovemaking between us.

Though tired and sore as hell, I needed to sneak out so I could meet with Roscoe by the Hill. During this time, when I am with Jacob, Harley is on break so I could sneak out if I’ll need to do it secretly.

The travel from our house to the Hill seems too long when in reality, it isn’t. My heart kept on pounding loud and hard as I travelled, and my feet seems to want and stop running. To go slow. Like my instinct is telling me to delay my time… but I don’t know why.

The moment I reached the peak of the Hill, I saw him there. Roscoe were standing with the tree behind him,and looks like he has been waiting for so long…

“So what is it?” I asked as soon as my feet halted from walking.

“Before we start, I’d like to call a friend…” his hand extended to gesture to his right. It was dark here by the hill, but my sight is clear as a day. There was no one beside him or behind… no one, I mean it.

“What friend?” I asked when no one showed up.

Did I felt scared knowing he is not alone? No. I’m in the pack lands, and there are guards beyond reach. Sure, two to one is not a fair fight, but if something bad comes up, my mate is just meters away… sleeping.

Roscoe looked beside him like someone was there, raising a brow and then nodding after. I was baffled by what he did, I can see no one other than the two of us. Upon enhancing my senses, I can’t feel any other presence as well.

What the hell? Is he out of his mind?

“Oh!” Roscoe laughed. “My bad.” he said then urged me to come closer. I didn’t move an inch.

“What?” I asked, confused still.

“Come closer so my friend can do her magic so you can hear and see her, Luce.”

I frowned. “Did you really think you can trick me, Roscoe?”

His jaw dropped and I guessed it was just an act but then, his shoulder slouched and he shook his head.

“She said she’ll come to you. Brace yourself, it will feel just like a blow.”

“Wha--” I didn’t had the chance to finish my sentence because a cold, strong wind strikes on my face for like a second. My lungs lost air from the impact of it, the strong wind made me blink and when I opened my eyes again…

A person was standing in front of me.

I don’t know if the person is a man or a woman but upon what Roscoe addressed her, she must be a woman. Her hair is long and all over her face that I can’t see what she actually looked like.

Her body complexion is like of a man, and her clothes are too. When the woman moved, I stepped back and changed my stance into a protective guard.

“Stay away from me!” I screamed, hissing after when I realized I must have caused an uproar for who might’ve heard me.

“Calm down, Lucianna, please.”

“Won’t. Bite.” the female said.

It is weird. I can see her, I can hear her, but I can’t smell her or feel her presence at all.

“This is Fhoxia, the dark messenger of the Moon. She is the one who will prove that I am telling the truth, Lucianna. That Jacob’s life is in danger.”

I can’t take my eyes off from the woman who’s named Fhoxia. She looks harmful, not that I’m judging but the way she lacks presence meant her soul is not here. She’s not alive.

Or maybe she is not a person at all.

In a fast motion, she lifted her arm and her finger pointed at me. I still can’t see her face.

“Mate. Die.” she said.

I frowned.

“My mate will die?”

Fhoxia nodded so slow that I think everything around us has stopped.

“Why? Will Jacob be killed?” I asked again. I think she can’t speak properly, another sign that she is not from this realm. Not from this world. And I’m starting to think that she might be a messenger, a soulless creature sent from the Moon.

“Yes. Yes.”

“By whom?”

I looked at Roscoe who looks calm behind Fhoxia. I don’t know if its because he did this, he organized this, or he just knew all of it.

A part of me was thinking that the messenger, as they claimed, will point out Roscoe as the reason of my mate’s death. I can’t think of anyone who will want him dead but his own blood, his brother.

In a blink, the messenger was an inch away in front of me. My breath hitched, I didn’t even felt that she moved!

“You. Because. You.”

What? Me?
