“If they could be born," Lina said, "they would probably be as beautiful as you."
Donna regained her senses and looked up at Lina, who had a gentle and longing expression at that moment. The sorrow in Donna's eyes disappeared as she looked at Lina, saying, “You're so beautiful. They must be very beautiful too.”
Lina listened with a faint smile, but she couldn't hide the sadness in her eyes. “Back then, I used to wonder if they would be beautiful, but now, I just wish they are still here. It doesn't matter how they look. I'll love them regardless.”
Upon hearing this, Donna was deeply moved. A moment later, she asked, “Have you ever heard of a story?”
“What story?” Lina asked, looking at her.
“In our hometown, there's a legend that says every child is an angel. When they choose their mothers, they search from atop the clouds. Once they've chosen you, they'll reincarnate as your child and wait to be born. However, if something unexpected happens and they can't make it, they'll return to the heavens and wait for a new opportunity.”
Lina listened, her eyes sparkling with excitement. “Is that true?”
Donna nodded. “That's what everyone says back home, so I think they must still be waiting for you. You have to get better soon, or they'll worry about you. If they know your body can't handle it, they won't dare to come looking for you.”
Lina listened and nodded. “I got it.”
Donna looked at her, smiled, picked up the peeled orange and handed a few pieces. “Have some of it.” Lina looked at her, gently taking it from her hands. “Thank you.”
When Magus walked in, he saw the scene. “What are you two doing here?” Magus asked, his brows slightly furrowed.
“We're just here to visit,” Ben replied.
“Don't do that. Get out of here immediately, or don't blame me for what I do,” Magus warned.
Donna stepped forward and asked with a gentle voice, “Lina, do you know who they are?”
“I know. They must be ordinary children,” Lina replied.
“Then why are you so afraid?” Donna asked.
Lina nodded. “I know. Otherwise, Tony wouldn't have thought about recruiting him into our group.”
“You're overthinking it. We didn't come here for you,” Ben said, chuckling lightly.
Magus looked at them with a mix of doubt and belief. Donna spoke up, “Magus, do you know what illness Lina has?”
“What do you mean?” Magus asked.
“Thalia's boyfriend is an incredibly talented doctor known as the ‘Miracle Healer’ in the medical field. Many people want his help with their illnesses, but he's not that easy to hire. Yesterday, Thalia visited the doctor to ask about Lina's condition and sent the information to her boyfriend. Lina originally wanted her boyfriend to come and help, but our problems were unfortunately too distressful, and he couldn't make it here. However, he clearly stated during the phone call that Lina's illness is not a common one. It's a kind of depression that has already taken root in her heart,” Donna explained.
Standing opposite, Magus narrowed his eyes slightly upon hearing her words. After a moment, he asked, “What exactly are you trying to say?”
“What I mean is, you've spent so much money on her treatment and accompanied her throughout, so she should have improved. Do you know why her condition has actually worsened instead of getting better?”
“Why?” Magus asked.
“Because the money you earn doesn't give her a sense of security. She's constantly on edge, fearing that something might happen to you while helping her with her medical treatment. She can't accept this reality. As a result, it only adds to her burden.”
Magus listened intently, his emotions stirred. “I understand,” he finally said.
Donna nodded. “That's all we have to say. Take care of her.”
Magus stood there, somewhat unable to snap back at them. He had never considered these questions before. At one point, he even thought the doctor might be doing it for some other reason. But now, his emotions were indescribably complicated.
Ben and Donna headed outside. Donna said, “Sigh, he's actually so pitiful.”
“There must be something detestable about a pitiful person. Even if it wasn't his fault at first, the fact that he let this mistake continue makes him even worse,” Ben commented.
Donna listened and nodded. “Yeah, it's really a pity. But there's only so much we can do. As for the outcome, it's up to his own choices.”
“Let's go,” Ben said as they walked away.
But just as they turned the corner, they almost bumped into Lina's head. “I'm so sorry,” Donna quickly apologized.
Lina looked at her. “Are you okay?”
Donna looked at the person and saw a cold smirk appearing at the corner of their mouth. “I'm fine,” Donna replied.
