Victory Short Lived
"Great, get ready. We will leave in about half an hour," Mr Dickson announced, and left for the design department.
Jason proceeded to his office, sat behind his desk and went through all the documents that were placed on his table. They were reports from the department which gave him clear visibility of the company's overall productivity, which was on the low side. Jason checked his time and realized it was time for the meeting. They left the company as they agreed to meet with the business client at a hotel. Mr Dickson briefs Jason on the client to ensure he understands everything. What he didn't know was Jason had already read the profile of the client and had already drafted a proposal that would help them land the contract.
The clients were two well-known investors who were looking to employ the services of an Estate Agency for a community housing project. The operation manager, Harry Lawson, was with them. The meeting started with him opening the floor with a new business proposal which he was hoping the investors would like. Ten minutes into the presentation, Ray Borison and his brother Tony Borison started asking so many questions. Harry tried to answer some of them but couldn't and ended up saying they would look into it.
"I don't like this idea, do you have another?" asked Ray.
Harry was going to answer, but Jason was fast to answer.
"Yes, we do?" Jason replied, surprising Harry, who turned to look at Mr Dickson, but he had his eyes fixated on Jason.
Jason opened the file he had and shared some proposals with the investors, making Mr Dickson smile. Earlier that day, Jason had shown him the proposal. Still, he was confident in the proposal shared with him by Harry, so he intended to use Jason's proposal for another company. He was happy Jason brought it along.
"No wonder Mr Haward liked him," Mr Dickson thought, as Jason put the drive on the laptop to project the second idea.
Jason stood in front of them and presented the alternative proposal. He also included in his presentation how both parties could benefit from the project. The investors were left in silence as Jason answered all their questions to their satisfaction.
"I like this idea," said Ray, and Tony agreed.
"Can we have this proposal together with the presentation emailed to us? We would like to sign a contract with you," asked Tony.
"Sure, you will have it by 2 p.m. today, and please let us know if you have any concerns when you receive them," said Jason.
The meeting ended, and the parties parted ways. On the car back to the company, Mr Dickson couldn't help but smile ear to ear. Year after year, they lost this contract, but today they got it.
"Well done Jason," congratulated Mr Dickson, as soon as they arrived at the company.
"Yeah, congratulations," said Harry, forcing a smile on his face, but inwardly he was unhappy.
Harry has always been the lead on all projects, doing presentations, and drafting proposals. There is always back-and-forth before they land a contract. Jason's first try, and he wins the contract for the company, people were going to start comparing and that was something he didn't want, that is, Jason to be named better than him.
"Thank you," replied Jason, and headed for his office with Mr Dickson.
As soon as Jason was behind his desk, he prepared the documents and it after confirming with Mr Dickson, emailed them to the Borison brothers. The project contract was sent to Jason 30 minutes after he had emailed them. He went through it with Mr Dickson, after which they signed and Jason emailed the signed contract back to the Borison brothers.
Looking at the time the project needed to start, Mr Dickson called for an emergency meeting and, after sharing the good news, quickly tasked all the departments and made Jason the lead. This further annoyed Harry even though he smiled and clapped with the others who were genuinely happy for the company landing the contract for the project.
"Well done, Jason," said Mr Dickson one more time in front of the managers who had gathered.
The news quickly spread to every employee of the company and they happily celebrated the achievement.
With the Borison brothers being well known, the news of the company they awarded the community housing project contract made its way to the media platforms. The successfully signed partnership between the Borison brothers and Groupo Estate Agency on the community housing project news did not fly without Jason's name being mentioned as the lead.
In Florida, Mrs Haward, realizing Mirenda had a crush on Henry, Jason's therapist, quickly linked up with Henry's mum who happened to be her friend, to plan a blind date for Mirenda. Mirenda was not fully in support of what they were doing to Jason. Getting her busy she felt would get her off her back with the questioning.
"If she had a man in her life, she wouldn't have time to be asking silly questions and judging everything they do to claim the Haward fortune," Mrs Haward thought, as she was successful in planning the blind date.
Mrs Haward exited her bedroom and headed for the living room. After getting herself served a glass of wine, she turned on the TV, watching her favourite TV series. The program ended and was followed by the news for the day. She frowns, immediately seeing Jason on the news being praised.
"The Borison brothers have awarded the 20 billion dollar community housing project to Groupo Estate Agency. The project is the biggest, and it is meant to provide shelter for a lot of people. Mr Jason Haward is the chosen lead on this project. Stay tuned for more details," read the newscaster.
"This Jason is like a cat. How many more lives does he have left?" Mrs Haward said, with a frown. "No, he can not rise to the top, I have to put a stop to this," she thought, and fetched her phone from the table and dialled a number.
"Jason, you wait for me, I will send you back to hell and there will be no coming back for you this time," Mrs Haward said, bringing the phone to her ears.
"Hello," Mrs Haward said, as soon as the call connected. "I need your urgent help with something," she added.
Mrs Haward was enjoying her victory of destroying Jason only to find out he was doing well in another company, in London. The only thing on her mind now was how to get him fired from that company. She needed to do something and fast too.
