First Day At Work
"Hello Mr Haward," Mr Dickson said, once Jason entered. "Welcome back," he added with a smile, and offered Jason a handshake, which Jason accepted.
"Thank you for accepting my offer and my sincerest apologies for yesterday. My decision was without thinking. I am very happy to have you," Mr Dickson said with a smile.
"Thank you for the offer," replied Jason.
"Your office is ready and is directly opposite mine. You will be managing this company with me. I would walk you through what you need to know," Mr Dickson said.
"Thank you," replied Jason with no expression at all.
Mr Dickson spent the morning onboarding Jason, and he took him on a tour of the company after. Starting with the Human Resources (HR) and Administration departments, Mr Dickson introduced Jason to the employees and the department head, Mr Farel. The department had a balance of both genders and the ladies were excited to see Jason due to his charming personality.
"You are most welcome Mr Haward," said Farel, offering a handshake, which Jason accepted.
They went to the finance department next, headed by a female, Ms Yolanda Forson, as introduced by Mr Dickson. The sales department was next to visit, and it was dominated by women. Jason maintained his composure as they walked through a crowd of women. They visited the Marketing, Business Development, Civil/Execution, Contracts, Billing, Design, Legal, IT and finally Security, which were outsourced and managed by the Admin department.
Jason was glad the tour was over, and he was back in Mr Dickson's office. There were just too many women in the company and they were everywhere. He was glad he only had to work with the heads of the department as he still had the issue of gynophobia. It's different with Mrs Haward because he grew up knowing her as his mother and also different with Mirenda as she was a sister to him. Julia, he was not entirely sure, but well, she was the one scared of him and somehow that made him feel good.
"After your probation period, you can employ the service of a PA," said Mr Dickson.
"The day is almost over, but you can have a look at your office space. You can have it redecorated to your taste. There is a team on standby for that," said Mr Dickson. "You can have this file; it has details of four business deals we hope to close before the end of the second quarter. You can look at them to bring yourself up to speed," he added, handing him a file.
Jason took the file and exited Mr Dickson's office, entering his. The interior was not that bad, so he maintained it. He sat behind his desk, opened the files and started going through each of the business deals. Going through the proposal and attached documents, he immediately figured out why they never closed any of the deals. He started drafting new business proposals for the various projects the business wanted. The day was soon over and Peter came to pick Jason home. The trio sat behind the dining table and ate their supper together. Everyone returned to their room after watching TV.
"Do you like your new job?" Julia inquired once they were both in bed, and she was in Jason's arms as usual.
Jason lay facing up with one hand behind his head and the other wrapped around Julia, whose head was resting on his chest.
He inhaled and exhaled, shut and opened his eyes before replying with, "I just started."
Julia was all around worried. First, he shut himself up, he is running an investigation on her and now, he will not even have a simple conversation with her. She was beginning to feel like a part of the furnishing of the apartment. It almost feels like the first time they met, only he is not asking her to leave this time around, but he is ice-cold.
"Will things go back to how they used to be? I mean like the time I was working with you, how things were back then?" Julia asked, tracing the designs on Jason's top with her finger.
Jason groaned and held her hand, stopping her from running her fingers on his chest as it was building a desire he was not ready to succumb to. He had not replied to her question, but his gaze shifted from the ceiling to her, and she looked up at his face when he held her hand suddenly. The gap between them gradually started closing as he looked at her face. Julia's gaze shifted from Jason's face to his lips as he inched closer to her, flipping her over and coming on top. He lowered his head and kissed her lips, his hands moving from her thigh down to her waist, pulling her, even more, closer to himself. Julia wrapped her hand around him as she responded to his kisses even though she knew in her heart he would stop any moment and tell her to sleep. She just wanted to enjoy the moment while it lasted, but to her surprise, it didn't look like he was going to stop as he kept going, and his hand went under her dress exploring her body. Inwardly she smiled, enjoying the moment as he didn't touch her often like that. She could even say he doesn't touch her at all. Jason already had a lot on his mind, he could not deal with her emotions right now. He did need a good distraction and somehow, when he kissed her, memories of the night on the 7th floor surfaced in his mind. He wanted to feel that again, not in a drunk state this time. He allowed himself to feel that again with her, losing himself in passion. They both drifted off to sleep after, still wrapped in each other's arms with the sheet as the only thing covering their bodies.
At 6 a.m., Jason was already up and fully dressed for work. Julia slowly opened her eyes, turning in bed. Her eyes widened seeing Jason already dressed, she quickly got up from her bed. Seeing she didn't have clothes on, she covered herself with the sheet and quickly went to the bathroom. When she returned to the bedroom, Jason was not there. She exited the room and quickly went to make breakfast. Jason looked colder at the table. Nothing about him shows something happened between them. Julia lowered her head, playing with her food.
It was 7.45 a.m. when Jason arrived at Groupo Estate Agency and Peter left to do his Uber business.
"Great, you are here," came Mr Dickson's voice.
"Good morning," greeted Jason, and Mr Dickson responded.
"Hope you were able to go through the file I gave you yesterday because we are meeting one of the clients today," Mr Dickson said.
"Yes, I did," replied Jason.
"Great, get ready. We will leave in about half an hour," Mr Dickson announced, and left for the design department.
