When Love is not enough

86;  That's impossible

Ch. 86 / 95 Jan 26, 2026

Regina couldn't retort but simply turned around and walked as fast as her legs could carry her. She didn't expect this outcome. Those she detested so much, are now mocking her simply because she doesn't have the keys to her penthouse yet,

Even the quiet easy going Andre has turned out to have the temper of a hungry Lion. She needs to tell James what she'd just seen and heard. Nothing amuses her as much as the request for a refund of all he'd given to them.

That is never going to happen. If she needs to kneel before Patrick to put this loser in his place, then she would. No matter what happens, he still cannot be compared with Patrick, her son in-law.

She doesn't know how he made his money overnight, but waking up one day and owning a villa is questionable. And even at that, she still hasn't accepted the fact that they owned it. They might just be caretakers, that's all.

As she hurriedly stepped into her apartment, Regina yelled “James…James…are you even there at all?” She bellowed. She glanced around and didn't see her husband in their narrow sitting room.

She proceeded into the bedroom and saw him trying to sit up on the bed. James Logan squinted, waking up with a pulse as his wife yelled out his name. That's very bad of Regina. She will yell, scream or even shout his name without a single respect.

“You're still in bed? I expected you to have woken up. Real men are up and doing but you are still sleeping. If you had been hardworking enough, you would have been able to afford that villa across our home and not let someone else take it.

But now, you will sleep all day and blame it on your health. Aren't you ashamed of yourself that you cannot buy us a new mansion all these years since I married you. If your poor father hadn't left this behind for you, what would you have owned today?”

Alice went on, pouring out her frustration on James Logan, her husband. Today she's ashamed that she would be seeing Alice, a poor widow living in such a house while she still lives in this old apartment that appears as if it would collapse if a strong storm comes.

“Did you wake me up to insult me?” James bellowed. What insolence. If she is grieved about the place where they live, she should go elsewhere. Didn't she know he was living there when she agreed to marry him and give birth to Jasmine?

“Yes,the insult and humiliation I just received was second to none. It's a premium humiliation and it's all because of you. If you had been rich and well doing like other men out there, then we would have been able to purchase that villa. But no. You prefer living in this rathole you called a house….” Alice snapped at him.

“At least I inherited this house and we've been living here since we got married. What have your parents been able to offer to you since you were married? What inheritance did you bring into this house?

Who says the man alone should be hardworking? If a man cannot work hard to buy a villa why couldn't the woman do it and buy the family an estate? You've never been useful for anything all your life and you blame me for it?

I am content with my life. Even if I die today, I didn't die in vain. I have a house, even if it's a rathole like you called it, even if it was an inherited one, I have a home all the same.

When you've been able to get a villa or estate of your own, you may choose not to invite me to live there with you. Your pursuit of a penthouse, is the reason why Jasmine life is on the path of ruin and yet, you still haven't gotten it.

She would have been happy with Andre but you cleverly brainwashed her to go with Patrick because he is financially stable. I am waiting for that day to come, when you become a penthouse owner” James sneered and hissed aloud.

“I know you will cleverly wriggle your way out. Your intelligence and cleverness is only seen when it has to do with arguments between us but not enough to surpass Alice and her son from buying that villa across our home.

It's a shame that Andre had decided to rub dirt in our faces as he intentionally bought that villa and brought his mother to live there with him. You see what I'm saying?” Regina seethed.

“That's impossible. How can Andre afford such a house? It's a villa, don't you get it?” James rebuffed. There's no way Andre would be able to afford such a big house.

“It appears to be so. I went there and I saw them myself. I heard Andre referred to his mother as the owner of that house. Alice doesn't have a child of her own and yet, today, she owns a villa.

I have a daughter and still live here. Can't you see the calamity that has befallen me? Is it nothing to you that poverty has held us in shackles? And to think that today, that boy, has the audacity to tell me that he wants everything back” Regina sniffled.

This is not the life she envisioned for herself. Did Alice cast a spell on Jasmine to lose that pregnancy so she couldn't get her penthouse? The mockery in her voice when she taunted her a while ago, appears suspicious.

“What do you mean by he wants everything back?” James asked casually, yawning. Regina is something else. Having a child and still living in a small house like this has nothing to do with Alice. Besides, Alice has a son- Andre.

“He wants his kidney, his blood and every single cent he spent on Jasmine. He wants to get revenge on us and I know he was biting more than he could chew. Patrick will deal with him, that I can assure you of” Regina replied.

“He wants his kidney back?” James blurted, confusion slamming into him like an avalanche.
