Chapter 122: A New Bryce

Ch. 122 / 193 Mar 05, 2025

The news of Mr Anderson started trending on social media platforms, and gradually, the story was turned against Angela. From the belief that Angela could be innocent, and the murderer was still out there on the street, to Angela's accomplices were still out there carrying out Angela's orders. Bryce became furious and became extra cold.

Patricia's body was released for burial and Devon quickly took care of it as he didn't want anything to interrupt the upcoming engagement party scheduled for the weekend which Bryce didn't care about.

The funeral for Patricia Moore was held on after her body was released Wednesday evening. At the small ceremony which was held at the family home with very few people, Bryce found himself standing next to his mother's casket. The report from Ian which he had read occupied his mind. His anger towards Angela grew and so was his hatred for her. He felt betrayed and regretted ever allowing himself to fall in love with her. He was now doubting the paternity of the child she was carrying.

Devon seeing Bryce very angry decided to find out from Susan what happened. He pulled Susan to the side to talk.

"What is going on with him?" Devon asked.

"I am not sure," Susan lied.

Susan was very much aware Bryce was angry because of the report from Ian. Ian was one person Bryce trusted so much. Bryce was very much aware of Ian's behaviour of offering his service to the highest bidder but that was something Ian had never done to him because of their friendship. So Bryce believed the content of the report from Ian which said Angela was guilty unaware that Ian had completely changed from the man he knew him to be.

"He had been like this since yesterday," Susan added.

"Hmm," Devon said staring at Bryce standing next to Patricia's casket. "Well, whatever got into him, is good. It's making him make decisions that will work in your favour. He secretly married that murderer. I found out this morning from Mark, that he was filing for a divorce," he informed Susan and she smiled. "I will see to it that he doesn't go back on his decision to divorce Angela. The engagement comes off this weekend as planned," he added.

"Is that why, you organized this shabby funeral for your beloved?" Susan asked, emphasizing the fact that Patricia was Devon's wife.

"I don't care about that woman as much as you think. She was a thorn in my flesh. She is the reason Bryce is the way he is. She disagrees with me openly and supports Bryce's nonsense. I knew she was going to meet that friend of Angela's, Zora or whatever her name is," Devon said with disdain and Susan was surprised.

"Does it mean you?" Susan asked with an eyebrow raised, wondering if Eva's men shot Patricia or if it was Devon.

"I hated her but I am not that cruel," Devon replied and Susan just nodded.

The short ceremony was soon over and Patricia's body was sent to the graveyard for burial. From the graveyard, Bryce left for the office and spent the rest of the day there till 8 p.m. before returning to his estates, while Susan stayed around with Devon.

Josephine saw Bryce strode in and she could hardly recognise him. He was now looking scary. Josephine knew Bryce to be cold but not this cold. He was strict but now, he looks like he is angry with the world. He hates people disobeying him but now the slightest mistake and he will terminate your contract. He terminated the contract of three employees, including Marcus and tasked Martin to get him a replacement by noon before he left for his mother's funeral in the morning. It was now late evening and he strode in freezing the whole place with his coldness.

"Welcome sir," Josephine greeted and Bryce stared at her coldly before turning his gaze away from her. "Is there anything you would like me to do for you?" she asked.

"No. Now get lost," Bryce said harshly and headed for the staircase.

Josephine left for her room. Inside her room, she paced up and down biting on her nail as she occasionally stared at her phone lying on her bedside table. She paused in her steps and walked towards the bedside table. She sat on the edge of the bed after picking up her phone. She dialled a number and pressed the phone to her ears.

"Hello, I know I said I would never call you again but I need your help. It's about Bryce. He, he, he is turning into what I can't recognise," Josephine said as soon as the call was answered.

"Phine, Phine, why am I not surprised by your call," the person said from the other end of the call and it was followed by laughter. "I would have been surprised if you didn't call," he added and laughed.

"Don't flatter yourself. I called because I know you are the only one who can help. If not I would never have called you," Josephine said with a frown.

"You need my help and you still got quite a mouth on you," the man said and laughed. "Anyway, you know me, my help comes with a price," he added and Josephine could already imagine his face carrying a smirk.

"I know. I am offering myself as payment. You can do with me as you please but I need your help with Bryce," Josephine said on the call, with her heart racing against her chest because she knew she was just making a deal with the devil.

"I like your payment. What do you need help with?" the man asked from the other end of the call.

Back in Bryce's room, he took a shower and was about to brush his teeth when he saw Angela's toothbrush sitting in his cabinet. He stared at it for a while before angrily grabbing it, but before he could throw it away, his anger subsided. He put it back and exited the bathroom. He changed into something comfortable and turned in for the night.

The next day, Friday, Bryce got ready and left for the office. While sitting behind his desk, he received an email from Bernard. He opened it and saw a list of applicants who had been selected for an interview later in the day. Angela's replacement. Bryce went through it and there was an applicant called Angela. He frowned immediately and closed the attachment. He dialled Bernard's extension.

"You can proceed with the interview but take out the applicant called Angela. I don't like her CV," Bryce said and ended the call without waiting for a reply from Bernard.

There was a knock on his door and Martin walked in.

"Sir, Ms Anderson's trial is tomorrow. I also picked up the divorce papers as requested," Martin reported and Bryce lifted his gaze from his laptop to stare at Martin who was holding a brown envelope stretched towards him.

"What time is the trial?" Bryce asked after a long deafening silence which made Martin wonder if Bryce was okay.

"It's 9 am," Martin replied as Bryce accepted the brown envelope from him.

"Get the car ready, we are going to the station now," Bryce said to Martin after signing his part on the divorce papers and Martin nodded before exiting Bryce's office.

Meanwhile, back at the Anderson's home, Mrs Anderson was with Zora, who took a day off to be with her following the death of Mr Anderson.

"Who could have done this to my husband?" Mrs Anderson cried while Zora hugged her trying to console her.

The two ladies were sitting in the living room alone.

"The police are not even trying to find who killed him. They asked me to come collect his body," Mrs Anderson complained. "He left to meet up with Mr Moore. Mr Bryce Moore," she cried. "Did the Moores kill my husband because they believe Angela killed two members of their family?" she continued to cry.

"I believe someone is out there taking advantage of the situation. My first guess is the HR of Diamond Corporation," Zora said and Mrs Anderson pulled away from the hug.

"You mean Susan McClean. The woman said to be in an intimate relationship with Bryce?" Mrs Anderson asked.

"Yes," Zora replied and Mrs Anderson calmed herself wiping her tears.

"So this is her doing? She wants Bryce for herself and she is scheming against Angela," Mrs Anderson concluded after a careful thought and Zora nodded.

Zora had long suspected Susan could be behind it but how could she go up against Susan with mere words? Plus, between her and Susan, Susan was rich and powerful.

"I think, I need to speak with Bryce. He must know Angela's story. It's time, someone tells him who the man he called father truly is," Mrs Anderson said.

"And how do you intend to meet Bryce?" Zora asked. "He is not one to be spotted walking down the street so you can approach him," she pointed. "Again, how does this bring Susan under the magnifying glass?" she asked.

"My husband and I gave up riches to be average wealthy people. I know the ways of the rich. I will find him," Mrs Anderson said and Zora just stared at her wondering if she meant what she was saying or her husband's death was getting to her.
