The Rebirth of My Dead Billionaire Wife

Chapter 253

Ch. 253 / 300 Apr 25, 2026

The golden afternoon sunlight filtered through the windows of Ryan Hayes’s living room, casting warm patterns on the floor. Avery stretched lazily on the couch, flipping through a book while Ryan set up his painting supplies near the window.

“You’re really going to paint me?” Avery asked, her tone half-teasing, half-curious as she watched him fiddle with a palette of vibrant colors.

Ryan glanced over his shoulder, smirking. “I’ve painted you hundreds of times, Avery. This isn’t new.”

“Yes, but those were secret paintings,” she said with a raised eyebrow, closing her book. “This is the first time you’re doing it while I’m sitting here, fully aware of it.”

“Well,” Ryan said, dipping his brush into a swirl of blue, “I figured it was about time you got the full experience. Besides, I wanted to do a piece of you now—happy and relaxed. It’s different when you know I’m watching.”

Avery laughed, sitting up on the couch. “Happy and relaxed? You’re really setting the mood high. What if I sneeze or something?”

“Then I’ll paint you mid-sneeze,” Ryan replied with a grin, gesturing for her to stay still. “But I’m betting on you being too stunning to mess this up.”

Ryan walked over to her, hands on his hips, tilting his head as he examined her position on the couch.

“Alright, let’s figure out your pose,” he said, his hazel eyes scanning her thoughtfully.

Avery rolled her eyes. “What am I, a mannequin? Just let me sit however I want.”

“No way,” Ryan said, shaking his head. “This has to be perfect. Move a little to the left. No, wait. Right. A bit more.”

Avery groaned dramatically but shifted in her seat, adjusting herself to his liking. “Is this okay, Mr. Michelangelo?”

Ryan chuckled. “Almost. Tilt your head a bit—yes, like that. And let your arm rest on the cushion naturally. Perfect.”

She held the pose for a moment before breaking into a laugh. “This feels ridiculous. Are you sure I don’t look awkward?”

“You look perfect,” Ryan said, his voice softening. “Just trust me.”

Ryan returned to his easel, his movements deliberate as he mixed the colors on his palette. Avery watched him, fascinated by the way his hands moved with precision and confidence.

“So, what’s the plan here?” she asked, breaking the silence. “Are you painting me as I am, or adding a halo or something dramatic?”

Ryan laughed, his brush gliding across the canvas. “No halos. Just you, exactly how I see you right now.”

“And how do you see me right now?” Avery asked, her tone teasing but her curiosity genuine.

Ryan paused, glancing at her with a small smile. “Beautiful. Effortless. Like you’re the calm in the middle of all my chaos.”

Her cheeks flushed, and she looked away, pretending to adjust her hair. “You’re really laying it on thick, Hayes.”

“Just speaking the truth,” he said with a wink before turning his attention back to the painting.

As Ryan continued to work, Avery found herself growing restless.

“Can I at least stretch a little?” she asked, shifting her legs.

“Nope,” Ryan said without looking up. “Stay still. Art takes patience.”

“You’re lucky I like you,” she muttered, earning a laugh from him.

After a moment, she broke the silence again. “So, is this going to hang in your secret gallery, or are you planning to show it off to the world?”

“Hmm,” Ryan said, pretending to think. “Maybe I’ll hang it in the living room. Or above my bed. You know, really lean into the whole ‘obsessed boyfriend’ vibe.”

Avery laughed, throwing a pillow at him. “You’re ridiculous.”

Ryan caught the pillow mid-air, setting it aside with a grin. “And yet, you’re still here.”

“Yeah, yeah,” she said, settling back into her pose with an exaggerated sigh.

After what felt like forever to Avery, Ryan finally stepped back from the easel, tilting his head as he examined his work.

“Alright,” he said, setting his brush down. “It’s done.”

Avery immediately sat up, her curiosity piqued. “Can I see it?”

“Not yet,” Ryan said, moving to block her view.

“What? Why not?” she protested, trying to peek around him.

“Because I want to add one last thing,” he said, grinning mischievously. “Close your eyes.”

Avery groaned but complied, closing her eyes and crossing her arms. “This better be good.”

When Ryan finally told her to open her eyes, Avery gasped.

The painting was stunning. It captured her perfectly—the warmth of her expression, the softness of her features, the subtle sparkle in her eyes. But what struck her most was how Ryan had painted her: serene, glowing, as if she were the centerpiece of a peaceful world.

“Ryan,” she whispered, her voice full of emotion. “It’s… beautiful.”

He smiled, stepping closer. “You make it easy to paint, Avery. You inspire me.”

She turned to look at him, her heart full. “Thank you. For this, for everything.”

Ryan shrugged, though his smile didn’t waver. “You’re worth it. Every single bit of it.”

Avery leaned forward, pressing a kiss to his cheek. “You’re pretty amazing, you know that?”

Ryan chuckled, wrapping an arm around her shoulders. “I have my moments.”
