The sun streamed through the windows of Avery apartment as she put the finishing touches on Ryan’s surprise birthday party. The room was a masterpiece of careful planning and creativity. Fairy lights hung along the walls, casting a warm, inviting glow. Navy and silver balloons floated in clusters, matching the elegant “Happy Birthday, Ryan!” banner draped above the dining table.
The table itself was a feast for the eyes—and soon, the stomachs. Italian dishes catered by Ryan’s favorite restaurant were laid out neatly: lasagna dripping with cheese, creamy chicken Alfredo, garlic breadsticks, Caprese salad with fresh mozzarella and basil, and bruschetta topped with ripe tomatoes.
For dessert, the centerpiece was a stunning two-tier chocolate and hazelnut cake adorned with edible paintbrushes and an art palette, a nod to Ryan’s passion for painting. Around it were trays of tiramisu, mini cannoli, and colorful macarons.
The apartment smelled heavenly, a mix of fresh-baked bread, garlic, and the faint sweetness of the desserts. Avery stood back to admire her work, feeling a flutter of nervous excitement.
“It’s perfect,” Janice said, adjusting the glittery party hat perched on her head. She wore a bright blue jumpsuit, the epitome of fun and festive energy.
“You look ridiculous,” Avery teased, laughing.
“And yet, I pull it off,” Janice shot back with a grin. “Now, stop stressing. Everything looks amazing. Ryan’s going to love it.”
Avery nodded, taking a deep breath. “I just want it to be special. He’s done so much for me, and he deserves this.”
Janice patted her shoulder. “It’s going to be perfect. Now, where’s Sunny? She needs her party hat.”
Avery laughed and grabbed a tiny, glittery party hat from the counter. Sunny, their golden retriever puppy, wagged her tail excitedly as Avery placed it on her head.
“There,” Avery said. “Now you’re ready to party.”
By 5:45 PM, the guests started trickling in, all following Avery’s instructions to arrive early. Ryan’s parents came first, bringing a beautifully wrapped set of paintbrushes for their son. His best friend Luke arrived shortly after, holding a bottle of champagne.
“Wow,” Luke said, looking around. “Avery, you’ve outdone yourself.”
“Thanks,” Avery replied with a smile. “Now we just have to keep quiet until he gets here.”
More friends and family members arrived, each one marveling at the decorations and the spread of food. By 6:00 PM, the apartment was buzzing with whispered conversations and laughter.
Janice clapped her hands. “Alright, everyone! Places! He’ll be here any minute.”
At exactly 6:30 PM, Avery’s phone buzzed with a text from Janice, who had taken Ryan out for coffee to keep him distracted.
We’re on our way up. He has no clue.
Avery quickly dimmed the lights, and everyone fell silent, their anticipation palpable. Sunny barked softly, sensing the excitement in the room.
Moments later, the door opened.
“Why are the lights off?” Ryan asked as he stepped inside.
“SURPRISE! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!”
The room erupted in cheers as the lights came on. Ryan froze in the doorway, his eyes wide with shock. He took in the decorations, the food, and the smiling faces of everyone he loved.
Avery stepped forward, beaming. “Happy birthday, Ryan.”
For a moment, Ryan looked like he didn’t know what to say. Then he broke into a wide grin, his hazel eyes shining. “You did all this for me?”
“Of course,” Avery said, wrapping her arms around him. “You deserve it.”
“You’re incredible,” he said, kissing her forehead.
“I’ll fuck the shit out of you tonight.” He whispered in her ear leaving her blushing hard.
