The salty breeze of the ocean danced around Alessia as she held Avery close, the sound of waves crashing against the shore providing a soothing backdrop to the bright, sunny day. Theo had insisted on organizing a beach picnic, claiming they all needed a day to unwind. Alessia, grateful for a break after the chaos of Avery’s birthday, had happily agreed.
The beach was picture-perfect. The golden sand stretched out endlessly, glistening under the sun, while the turquoise water sparkled like a million tiny diamonds. Theo had set up a large, colorful picnic blanket under a white canopy adorned with flowing fabric and fairy lights. Cushions and pillows were scattered around, and a low table was laden with an assortment of food: fresh fruit, sandwiches, pastries, and bottles of sparkling cider.
Pamela and Zane were already there, Zane attempting to fly a kite while Pamela laughed at his struggle. Victoria and Zayden sat on a pair of folding chairs nearby, cooing over Avery, who was playing with a bucket and spade in the sand.
“This is incredible, Theo,” Alessia said, smiling as she took it all in. “You’ve outdone yourself.”
Theo grinned, leaning down to kiss her forehead. “Only the best for my girls.”
Everyone gathered around the picnic table, passing plates of food and laughing as they shared stories. Avery, seated in a little booster seat on the blanket, babbled happily as she gnawed on a piece of watermelon, her tiny hands sticky with juice.
“Look at her,” Pamela said, snapping a photo of Avery. “She’s a natural beach babe.”
“She gets it from me,” Theo said, winking at Alessia.
“Oh, please,” Alessia said, rolling her eyes. “If anything, she got my love for sandcastles.”
“You mean the sandcastles that collapse after two seconds?” Zane chimed in, smirking.
“Hey!” Alessia said, tossing a grape at him. “I’ll have you know my sandcastles are structurally sound.”
Everyone laughed, and even Avery seemed to join in with a delighted squeal.
After the meal, Theo suggested a walk along the shoreline. Alessia agreed, carrying Avery on her hip as they strolled hand in hand, the wet sand cool beneath their feet.
“Theo,” Alessia said softly, glancing at him, “thank you for today. It’s been… perfect.”
He smiled, his eyes filled with warmth. “You deserve perfect, Alessia. Every single day.”
They stopped near a rocky outcrop where the waves lapped gently at their feet. Theo set down the basket he’d been carrying and knelt down to pick up a seashell.
“Here, Avery,” he said, handing it to her. “A little treasure from the sea.”
Avery giggled, clutching the shell tightly. Alessia watched them with a full heart, her love for Theo growing even more as he played with their daughter.
Just as Alessia turned to look at the horizon, she felt Theo’s hand on hers. She glanced down and saw him kneeling on one knee, his other hand holding a small, velvet box. Her breath caught in her throat as she realized what was happening.
“Theo…” she whispered, her voice trembling.
“Alessia,” Theo began, his eyes locking onto hers, “I’ve spent my entire life searching for something I didn’t even know I needed. And then you walked into my world, and everything changed. You’ve given me love, laughter, and the most beautiful gift of all—our daughter.”
Alessia’s eyes welled with tears as Theo opened the box, revealing a stunning diamond ring that sparkled in the sunlight.
“I don’t want to spend another day without you by my side,” Theo continued. “You are my heart, my home, and my everything. Alessia Kane, will you marry me?”
Avery, sensing the moment, clapped her tiny hands, babbling excitedly. Alessia let out a teary laugh, her hand flying to her mouth as she nodded.
“Yes,” she managed to say, her voice barely above a whisper. “Yes, Theo, a thousand times yes.”
Theo slipped the ring onto her finger and stood, pulling her into a deep kiss as Avery giggled in her arms. Cheers erupted behind them as the rest of the family, who had clearly been in on the plan, clapped and whooped.
Back at the picnic setup, Pamela was the first to hug Alessia. “I knew he was going to do it today!” she said, grinning. “I’ve been dying to say something for weeks.”
“Me too,” Zane admitted, laughing. “It was killing me not to tease you about it.”
Victoria and Zayden were next, embracing both Alessia and Theo with proud smiles. “Welcome officially to the family, Theo,” Zayden said warmly.
“It’s about time,” Victoria added with a wink.
Theo grinned, holding Avery close as she reached out for Alessia. “What do you think, Avery? Do you approve?”
Avery’s response was a happy squeal, her little hands tugging at Alessia’s hair.
“I’ll take that as a yes,” Theo said, laughing.
As the sun dipped lower in the sky, casting everything in a golden glow, Alessia sat on the blanket with Avery in her lap and Theo beside her. She couldn’t stop glancing at the ring on her finger, the reality of the moment sinking in.
“I love you,” she said softly, looking at Theo.
He smiled, leaning in to kiss her. “I love you more.”
Avery let out a happy babble, drawing their attention. “And we love you most,” Alessia said, nuzzling her daughter.
