The Art of Revenge

Temptation

Ch. 20 / 166 Dec 24, 2025

Xavier scratched his messy hair, not offering further explanation, but he asked with concern, "How are you? Are you feeling better? Does your head still hurt?"

"Much better!" Serena explained awkwardly, "I used to drink a lot, but I guess I hadn't done it in a while, so my body wasn't used to it."

"Well, now that no one's restricting you, you can drink as much as you want. Just tell me, and I'll bring you the best wine in the world!"

Serena pressed her lips together, "No, no, I... "

"Serena, after everything that's happened, are you still going to push me away?!"

"No... it's not that! It's just that one shouldn't receive a reward without merit. I can't accept such an expensive gift from you for no reason, right?"

"What's so expensive about it? Just a few bottles of red wine."

"I know that the Blaze family is incredibly wealthy now, but..." Serena lowered her head, wanting to tell Xavier that she didn't want to think about relationships at the moment and didn't intend to accept his kindness.

Besides, deep down, she never believed that Xavier was serious about her.

To her, someone like him-born with everything, surrounded by people who catered to his every whim-was likely driven by a strong possessiveness.

To him, it was probably more about conquest than love.

She had rejected him since they were young, becoming his inner demon, making him think about her for all these years.

Once he had her, perhaps, like Clint, he would cast her aside and never think about her again.

It was better for them to remain friends.

"Serena..." Xavier opened his mouth as if to speak, but before he could, Serena's phone suddenly started ringing.

Relieved, she rushed to the bedside cabinet, grabbed her phone. "Hello?"

"Serena, are you free today?!" It was Clint.

"What is it?!" As soon as she heard his voice, her tone turned cold.

"Come to the Beckett Corp. Let's sign the divorce agreement."

Serena froze for a moment. Didn't he refuse to sign last night? Didn't he say they should talk at Ever Hill Villa? Now, just one night later, why had he suddenly agreed?

"Are you... are you sure? You're not trying to trick me into something bad under the guise of signing a divorce agreement, are you?!"

On the other end of the line, Clint let out a light laugh, his voice tinged with a hint of self-mockery. "After all, we were once married. Do you really trust me this little?!"

"It wasn't little... It's just that you and Poppy kept stabbing knives into my heart. You did this to yourself!"

"Alright!" Clint replied, his voice deep. After a pause, he added, "I'm not joking with you. It's really to sign the divorce agreement!"

"..." Serena hesitated.

When things didn't make sense, there was usually something wrong. She was still puzzled about why Clint's attitude had changed so suddenly.

"Go." Xavier suddenly spoke from not far away.

Serena turned to look at him. His expression was determined, as though he had anticipated this call from Clint. Her curiosity deepened.

After thinking for a moment, she finally agreed. "Alright, I'll go to the Beckett Corp at 10 to meet you."

"Okay. Don't be late!"

After hanging up the phone, Serena turned to Xavier. "Why did you tell me to go? What if Clint is up to something bad again?"

Xavier smiled mischievously, his tone playful. "He wouldn't dare!"

"Wouldn't dare?! How are you so sure?!" Suspecting something, Serena eyed the tall, well-built man, sensing that his smile hid some information she didn't know.

Xavier had already turned toward the changing room. "Just a guess."

Serena felt that something was off, but without thinking too much, she hurriedly followed him.

Just as she reached the door of the changing room, she gasped and quickly covered her eyes. "Why aren't you wearing clothes?!"

At that moment, Xavier was only in wet underwear, with broad shoulders, a narrow waist, and long legs. His handsome face was enough to make anyone blush and their heart race.

He shrugged nonchalantly. "Miss Knowles, this is my home, my room, my changing room!" Glancing at the wet clothes on the floor, he sighed, "And my clothes are soaked and sticking to me. It's uncomfortable, so I have to change."

Serena kept her hands over her eyes. "Well... next time, give me a heads-up before you change!"

Footsteps echoed behind her, each step making her heart race uncontrollably.

After a moment, the footsteps stopped. Without thinking, Serena instinctively turned to leave.

"Come on, tell me. What do you want to ask me?!" Xavier's lazy, charming voice came.

Hesitating, Serena paused but didn't turn around. "Do you know something? About Clint?"

"You're planning to talk to me while facing away?" Xavier replied with a question of his own.

"You... how can I look at you like this?!"

"I'm dressed now."

Hearing that, Serena believed him, lowered her hands, and turned around.

What met her eyes was a chiseled, bronze-toned chest with beautifully defined muscles, like something out of an ancient Greek statue.

Her cheeks instantly flushed red, and she instinctively reached to cover her eyes again.

"Scared?" Xavier gripped her wrist. "I'm wearing pants. Just shirtless."

"With so many shirts in the changing room, can't you just grab one and put it on?" Serena complained, dissatisfied.

Xavier answered innocently, "Serena, you can't have it both ways. Last night, you were acting so wild, making me... now I'm just making a little return."

Serena blinked. "Last night?!"

What happened? Why couldn't she remember anything?

Hadn't she drunk too much and fallen asleep in his bed?

From the way he was speaking, had something happened? Could it be...?!

"You... I... we..."

Seeing her cute, flustered expression, Xavier gently patted her head. "Silly girl, nothing happened! It's not what you think! But just because nothing happened, doesn't mean I don't want it to. But I want you to want it too, and I will never force you when you're not conscious or willing. Also, this is all after you and Clint are officially divorced!"

Seeing that he wasn't lying, Serena finally breathed a sigh of relief. "Then tell me, do you know why Clint suddenly changed his mind and agreed to divorce me?"

"Don't worry about what I know. First, tell me, are you happy that he agreed to divorce you?"

"Of course! Why keep him around? Let him go!"

"Good! As long as you're happy."

"Then... can you tell me what you know?"

"I don't know! I don't know anything!" Xavier smirked and turned to walk into the changing room.

"Hey! What kind of person are you?"

He waved his hand casually. "Aren't you leaving? Or do you want to stay and watch me change?"

Serena quickly turned away, fuming. "Hmph, if you won't say, then forget it. Anyway, if there's anything, I'll find out sooner or later. The urgent thing is, as long as Clint is really willing to divorce, that's all that matters."
