For a moment, Serena was stunned, not quite understanding what he was getting at. Serena pursed her lips and coldly replied, "There's no need for that!"
"..." The other end of the line fell silent.
Not having time to waste with him, she said, "Fine, I'm in a rush to get back to the hospital, no more small talk."
"Then... take care of yourself. If you run into any problems, feel free to reach out to me!"
She blinked and casually responded, "Got it!" before ending the call on her side.
Walking quickly back, she mulled over what had happened. What was up with Clint? Why was he suddenly so concerned about her?
When they were still married, he never treated her with this much care. Now that they were divorced, he seemed more eager than ever.
"Heh... Men are such confusing creatures. When they have something good, they chase after something else. When they lose it, they suddenly want it back."
The more she thought about it, the more amused she became, shaking her head and quickening her pace.
In no time, she had arrived at the VIP ward for respiratory medicine. Just as she was about to push the door open, she heard voices coming from inside.
Hm? No one else was supposed to know about Xavier's sudden fever and hospitalization-so who could be in there with him?
Out of politeness, Serena didn't enter immediately.
Inside the room, Xavier was half-leaning on the bed with a stern expression. "Mr. Ben, how did you know I was here?!"
By the bed, a man of medium height, around forty, stood in a subservient posture with a fawning smile, "Hehe, in Vernon, aside from the exclusive clinic for the Blaze family, this hospital is the best. Coincidentally, I have a distant relative working here, so I asked him to check. Sure enough, your name was among the new admissions today."
Xavier curled his lips in a sneer, "Are you saying my words are nonsense? I told you not to come, but you insisted. What, are you afraid my dad will ask? You can't wait to report my whereabouts to him in detail?"
Mr. Ben's face turned pale as he lowered his head deeply, bending his back like a shrimp. "Sir, you've misunderstood me. I just care about your health and specially came to visit."
Xavier glanced at the fruit basket on the bedside cabinet, his tone neutral, "Visit?! Thanks a lot! How did you know I needed this fruit?"
"Uh..." Mr. Ben nervously wiped the sweat from his brow. "I came in a hurry, and the things I brought are indeed a bit humble. Next time, I'll definitely..."
"Next time?"
Xavier furrowed his brows, silently praying that Serena wouldn't come back too soon.
If Mr. Ben ran into her, he would immediately go back and report to his father.
Since Serena had been married before, his father didn't really like him getting too close to her. Now, he had fallen ill and, in order to have more chances to interact with her, he had deliberately chosen this crowded public hospital instead of the top-tier exclusive clinic, risking exposure.
If his father found out, he wouldn't know how angry he would get.
He wasn't afraid of his father's wrath; what he feared was that his father would be so ruthless that he would make sure he never saw Serena again.
"Sir, I... I really worry about you!" Mr. Ben smiled obsequiously. "I heard on the phone earlier that you were sick, and my heart almost stopped. If anything happens to your health, I won't be able to explain it to Mr. Blaze."
"Alright, alright!" Xavier waved his hand. "You've seen me. I'm fine, you can stop worrying now. Go, go, don't disturb my rest!"
"Sir!" Mr. Ben's narrow eyes darted around, and with a sincere tone, he suggested, "It's really inconvenient for you to stay here. Let me take you to your family's exclusive clinic instead." He turned around, looking at the surroundings with a disappointed expression. "There's not even a decent caregiver here. You're really torturing yourself."
"I don't need you to worry about me!" Xavier's tone turned harsh. "It's my business, I make the decisions!"
"Yes, alright, alright!" Mr. Ben quickly nodded, bowing. "Of course, I wouldn't dare manage your affairs! If you really don't want to change hospitals, I'll get you a professional caregiver."
"A caregiver?!" Xavier smiled bitterly.
If he actually got a caregiver, how could he shamelessly ask Serena to stay and accompany him?
"Yes, a caregiver!" Mr. Ben insisted. "Don't worry, my relative at the hospital has many excellent caregivers available. I'll make sure he finds the best one for you."
"No need!" Xavier glanced at his watch, becoming impatient. "You can leave now! Don't bother me anymore!"
"Sir..."
"Can't you hear me?!" Xavier's face turned cold. The carefree young master persona vanished, and he exuded an unspoken aura of authority that demanded respect.
This side of him made Mr. Ben inexplicably feel a sense of awe, and he couldn't help but swallow nervously.
Not wanting to give up, Mr. Ben opened his mouth, but under Xavier's unyielding gaze, he hesitated before awkwardly raising his hand to bid farewell, "Well, then, I'll leave now. Please take care, and I hope you recover soon."
Xavier didn't reply, merely waving him off impatiently.
As Mr. Ben exited the room and closed the door, he muttered in confusion, "What's going on with Mr. Blaze? Why would he turn down top-tier medical care and stay in this shabby public hospital? Now, he won't even let anyone arrange for a caregiver. Could it be that he's tired of a good life and wants to experience life like an ordinary person?"
Pondering this, he shook his head in disbelief and walked toward the stairs.
A little further down the hallway, by the window at the end, Serena turned around and glanced at his retreating figure with a complicated expression, her eyes dim.
Hearing the door open, Xavier instinctively barked, "How come you're back? Didn't I tell you to leave quickly?"
Serena stepped inside, placed the things she was holding on the coffee table, and said, "You said it yourself! I bought the things. Now, I'm leaving. Good luck to you!"
She turned and headed toward the door.
Xavier didn't have time to think. He jumped out of bed, not even bothering with his shoes, and rushed to stand in front of her.
The door was already open, and he spread his arms, blocking her way with a grin. "Serena, those words weren't meant for you. How could I bear to kick you out?!"
Serena pretended not to understand, crossing her arms. "Besides you and me, is there anyone else in this room? Who were you talking to if not me?"
"Well..." Xavier stammered.
Serena raised an eyebrow, studying him. After a moment, she sighed as if deflated.
She looked up at him seriously. "Xavier, stop torturing yourself. You should go back to your family's exclusive clinic."
