The Alpha's Mate Who Cried Wolf

Chapter 44

Ch. 44 / 181 Nov 11, 2025

Alpha Bane seized Alyssa by the wrist, his grip forceful and commanding. ‘Alyssa, you listen to me now! You deserve better! You deserve to be with the best Alpha out there! Do you really think you will have a happy life in that disgusting pack house?’ He said in rage, his words cutting through the air like a blade.

He turned Alyssa around forcefully, holding her arms as he applied immense pressure. ‘Do it now, or you will be known as a traitor to this family! Do you want your mother to live with that reputation?’

Alyssa was sobbing, her face contorted with anguish, as she shook her head in denial. ‘Forgive me, Zenith, please forgive me... I, Alyssa Moonstone, reject you, Future Alpha Zenith of Shady Crest, as my mate.’

The words cut deep, causing a searing pain in my chest as if my heart were being torn. I looked up at Alyssa, and it was evident that she was enduring the same excruciating pain. Her grip on her chest mirrored my own, and gasps of shock and horror rippled through the crowd as they bore witness to the rare and heart-wrenching display of a mate rejection.

'The mating ceremony is over! Everyone, go home!' Alpha Bane's authoritative voice sliced through the tension, and he continued to clutch Alyssa's wrist, forcibly leading her away toward the pack house. I made a desperate attempt to rush to her side, but my father seized me and held me back.

‘You will pay for this, Alpha Bane! I swear to the Moon Goddess, you will pay!’ My voice resounded with anguish and rage, echoing through the silent, stunned crowd, a promise of retribution for the unforgivable pain he inflicted.

Four long and arduous months had passed since the heart-wrenching rejection. During that time, my father and I meticulously orchestrated our daring plan to free Alyssa from Moonstone Crest and bring her home, where she rightfully belonged. It was a mission filled with tension and anticipation, one that would ultimately decide our fate.

Our strategy left no room for error, and we painstakingly considered every last detail. We would execute our mission under the cloak of darkness, slipping through the shadows as we infiltrated the heavily guarded territory of Moonstone Crest. Our objective was clear: to silently eliminate the guards and warriors one by one without alerting a single soul to our presence. The moment of reckoning would coincide with Alpha Bane's birthday celebrations, which were slated to take place in the grand hall—the very same hall where the painful ceremony where I was rejected had unfolded.

My heart pounded in my chest as I envisioned the perilous task ahead. My only comfort was the knowledge that Alyssa would be in that hall. Once I located her, my plan was to draw her away from the hall to safety. The pivotal moment would arrive when I succeeded in luring her away, and my warriors would swing into action.

The celebration would continue within the hall, oblivious to the impending turmoil that awaited them. As planned, my warriors would move with precision, methodically sealing and blocking all exits to prevent any escape. Surrounding the grand hall, they would pour a ring of fuel, effectively ensuring the destiny of Alpha Bane and his pack was sealed. Once the trap was set, all that remained was the spark that would ignite the fire, forever changing our lives.’

‘The fateful night had arrived, and everything proceeded according to our meticulous plan. As I laid eyes on Alyssa, my heart surged with a potent mixture of excitement and longing. I observed her for a moment, unable to contain the rapid pounding within my chest. Unlike the overwhelming sorrow that had haunted me during our separation, Alyssa appeared remarkably different tonight.

She laughed freely, her infectious joy intermingling with the sound of music and the rhythm of dancing. Her hand clung to her father's arm, and she planted a tender kiss on his cheek. I couldn't fathom the reasons behind her apparent lack of sadness or resentment. Why wasn't she upset or angry with Alpha Bane? Why did she appear so genuinely happy? I couldn't shake the feeling that there must be a compelling explanation.

Alyssa strolled over to a table laden with various delicious treats, indulging in plump grapes and succulent strawberries.

I couldn't restrain myself any longer. 'Alyssa!' I whispered her name with a sense of urgency, my voice a mere breath in the night, mingling with the gentle rustle of leaves. She paused mid-reach for another succulent strawberry, her movements stilled by the sound of my hushed plea. 'Alyssa!' I repeated, a tinge of desperation in my soft, earnest tone.

This time, her gaze lifted, and our eyes locked. Shock momentarily parted her lips, her eyes scanning the garden around her. She nervously searched for any prying eyes before returning her gaze to me. I gestured for her to approach, my hand beckoning her closer. Alyssa hesitated visibly; an internal struggle apparent in her demeanour as she grappled with whether to come to me.

She nibbled anxiously on her lower lip, her eyes darting around to confirm that no one was watching. Finally, she gave me a hesitant but determined nod, signalling her intention to approach. She looked around once more before discreetly slipping away from the bustling hall. My warriors, positioned in various hiding spots, watched with bated breath, awaiting the signal that would seal the fate of Alpha Bane and his pack as we set the grand hall ablaze.

As soon as Alyssa approached, I couldn't resist the overwhelming urge to pull her into my chest, my arms enveloping her in a tight embrace. The connection that once thrived between us—the sparks and the bond—was long gone due to her rejection. But none of that mattered. The Moon Goddess had given her to me in the first place, and I knew, with certainty, that my love for her would endure, regardless of the circumstances.

'Zenith, what are you doing here?' She asked gently, pushing me away. Her eyes held a mix of surprise and concern.

'I've come to save you!' I exclaimed fervently, a broad smile gracing my face. 'To take you away from here, to be my mate and Luna.'

Alyssa took a hesitant step back, her expression heavy with uncertainty. 'Zenith... I don't know what to say. I don't know how to tell you...' she trailed off, her voice tinged with sadness.

'You don't have to say anything, Alyssa,' I reassured her, my smile widening. 'I know how we can be together. Your father won't be able to stop us this way.'
