Alpha Ryker's P.O.V
We enter Shady Crest Territory, and right on nightfall, Kane has Vanessa and Alice in cuffs and chains walking in front of him while Leon leads the pack warriors.
Alpha Zenith's warriors are spread out, their ranks thinly scattered throughout the forest. It's a tactical advantage, allowing us to pick them off one by one with ease. The moment our presence is detected, a sense of urgency sweeps through their ranks, and they begin to retreat toward the Shady Crest pack house.
Leon, with sharp eyes, scans the dense woods ahead.
Suddenly, Seth's voice pierces my thoughts through our mind-link. 'Alpha! They know you're here!'
I respond swiftly, my mind connecting with his. 'Good,' I convey tersely.
Seth's next message carries a tone of urgency. 'Oh no!'
Concern grips me. 'What is it?' I ask anxiously.
'It's Astrid! You need to hurry! She's started shifting!' Seth's words hit me like a lightning bolt.
I curse under my breath, my focus immediately shifting to my mate. 'Shit, tell Astrid I'm coming for her and that I will be with her as soon as I can,' I instruct Seth, my heart pounding with dread and determination.
Turning to Leon and Kane, I convey the situation. 'Leon, Kane, we need to move faster! Astrid is shifting!'
They acknowledge my command, and without hesitation, we all transform into our wolf forms. In our mouths, we carry our clothes and race through the night. Kane remains in human form to guard Alice and Vanessa, ensuring their captivity as we press forward.
We sprint tirelessly through the forest until the Shady Crest pack house looms before us, an imposing structure surrounded by the amassed ranks of hundreds of pack warriors, all prepared and poised for the impending battle. With a swift transformation, I shift back into my human form and swiftly dress.
My gaze sweeps across the gathered warriors, scanning the area, until I lock eyes with Alpha Zenith. I maintain eye contact with him as I stride toward his position. He matches my pace, moving toward me with a predatory grace, shirtless and ready to shift at a moment's notice.
As we draw nearer, the tension intensifies. I break the silence. 'Hand Astrid and Seth over now, and no one has to die, Alpha Zenith,' I assert firmly.
Alpha Zenith's response is a chilling laugh. 'Sorry, but Astrid belongs to James and this pack now,' he replies.
I waste no time and issue a direct command. 'Kane! Bring them out!' I order, prompting Kane to step forward from our assembled pack warriors, escorting Alice and Vanessa in chains. Alpha Zenith's response is an ominous growl, his teeth bared in frustration.
With a sly grin, I propose an alternative. 'I thought I'd bring your Luna and daughter along for the show,' I taunt. 'Or we can make a trade: Astrid and Seth for Vanessa and Alice?' I compromise.
Alpha Zenith's glare intensifies, and he seethes with anger. 'Or I can kill you right here and take over your pack and have everything I want,' he counters, his voice dripping with venomous intent.
I cock my head to the side. 'Or I will kill you,' I retort.
Alpha Zenith makes his decision. 'War it is then,' he proclaims, walking away to rejoin his warriors. He shifts into a massive, grey wolf, his appearance reflecting the wear and tear of a worn alpha.
I shed my clothes and embrace my wolf form among my assembled warriors. My howl rends the still-night air, signaling the onset of war. In response, our warriors shift into their wolves and surge forward, converging on Alpha Zenith's forces in a frenzied clash of fangs and fur, marking the beginning of a brutal battle.
Amidst the frenzied chaos of battle, Alpha Zenith becomes a fleeting shadow and races through the fields and into the dense grove of trees.
Two wolves converge upon me, pouncing with deadly intent. Swiftly, I rip the throat of one assailant, crimson blood staining my fur. The other manages to sink its fangs into my leg, and I whimper involuntarily as pain courses through me. Releasing my grip on the first wolf, I pivot, leaping at the one that clings to my injured limb. My claws rake across its face, causing it to yelp and release its hold. I pounce once more, sinking my teeth into its side and tearing a sizable chunk of flesh away. With a pained howl, it bolts away in retreat.
Amidst the tumultuous battleground, I take stock of the two packs locked in fierce combat.
With a sense of urgency, I revert to my human form. The desperate need to find Astrid consumes me, and I bark orders to Leon. 'Leon! Follow me!' I command, taking off towards the pack house, my heart pounding with dread.
Leon keeps pace, his instincts sharp. We hurtle into the pack house, Astrid's anguished cries echoing from below the floor. 'Leon, there must be a door somewhere that leads down to the cells,' I assert, urgency gnawing at me.
'Astrid!' I shout as we traverse the house, my voice filled with desperation. Leon points urgently, directing my attention to a concealed entrance. 'Alpha! Here, I found the entrance. But why does it smell so good down there? Like lavender and musk?' he asks, his confusion apparent, expecting a more repulsive scent from the cells.
Without hesitation, I shove past Leon and rush down the stairs. Seth occupies the cell on the left, and an unfamiliar girl is imprisoned on the right. Astrid, the love of my life, lies curled up in the throes of agony, screaming in pain and despair. I race to her cell, my voice laced with fear and helplessness. 'Astrid!' I call to her, rattling the locked door in frustration. 'Where's the damn key?' I curse, desperation clawing at my throat. Her sobs intensify as she struggles to crawl towards the door, her suffering rending my heart. A sickening snap of a bone echoes, and her screams intensify. 'Astrid!'
I turn to run back up the stairs in search of the key, but find Leon frozen in place, his gaze locked with the girl in the neighboring cell. 'Leon! What are you doing?' I demand, but both he and the girl seem entranced, their murmurs of 'Mate' barely audible amidst Astrid's screams.
