The Alpha's Cinderella

Chapter 60

Ch. 60 / 80 Dec 19, 2025

Serena

Alicia's hands moved gracefully over the well-used cards, each shuffle making my heart race. The afternoon sunlight touched her weathered features, giving her an otherworldly glow, almost ethereal. As the cards were laid out, their edges showed the marks of time. Alicia’s eyebrows creased as she continued to lay out the cards one by one.

"Be cautious, Serena," Alicia spoke softly. "If you choose the path your heart desires, a challenging journey awaits. Loss will linger in the corners of your life, sacrifice will be your guiding light, and death will follow your every step."

The shabby hut seemed to absorb her words, and a chill settled within me. The air held a sacred silence, interrupted only by Alicia's deliberate words. "Yet, if you face the challenges bravely and move through the shadows with determination, a reward beyond mortal understanding awaits you. A love that goes beyond the limits of time and space, destined to echo through a million lifetimes."

After the reading, I found myself sitting there, silent and scared. The words she spoke felt heavy and put a burden on my heart. The room seemed to close in, and shadows grew darker, as fear took hold of me. A tight knot formed in my stomach, and I couldn't find the words to express the storm of emotions brewing inside me.

"Ahmm, I think I should be going. T-Thank you for the drink," I managed to mumble shakily to Alicia. She just nodded and gestured toward the door. I mustered a faint smile before stepping out of the shabby hut. The door creaked softly behind me, and the once-warm sunlight now felt harsh as I stepped into the fading afternoon.

“Those are just assumptions, nothing to be scared about,” I kept telling myself as I walked back to the camp. Yet deep inside, I knew that the creepy fate Alicia had spewed earlier had already made its mark inside my head. If I understood it right, my fate was headed for loss, sacrifice, and death. How could that be?

"Impossible. Those things aren't supposed to happen," I muttered once more to myself. I continued glancing over my shoulders, the fear of the unknown conjuring irrational scenarios in my mind, as if someone were watching and following me from behind. Lost in this anxious state, I collided with something—or more precisely, someone.

"Ah!" I exclaimed, suddenly losing my balance and stumbling backward. But out of nowhere, that someone, Alexei grabbed my waist and skillfully twisted himself to bear the brunt of the fall for me. I ended up landing on his strong chest, completely taken by surprise. The whole thing happened so fast, and I was grateful for his quick reaction. The air was filled with a mix of astonishment and a bit of shared laughter, creating a moment that hung in the cool autumn air.

“Careful, Serena. You should—”

“Serena? What’s the meaning of this?”

Alexei and I stared up and noticed Damon’s form. By his looks, he appeared as if he had just come back from his training.

“Damon! What a surprise!” I uttered as I hastily got up from Alexei’s chest. Alexei quickly followed. Damon's eyes narrowed, a tense silence settling between us. The atmosphere shifted, and the once light-hearted moment now carried an unspoken tension.

I struggled for words, attempting to decipher Damon's expression. The unexpected encounter and the abrupt interruption had created an awkward cloud hovering above us.

“It was I who was surprised,” Damon uttered meaningfully. Alexei and I exchanged uneasy glances.

“It’s not what you think, Damon. Serena and I just—”

Before Alexei could finish his words, Damon seized him by the collar. His eyes blazed with a jealous fury. “What will you say, rogue? What are you and my wife doing?”

“Damon, stop!” I yelled, the tension in the air escalating. Damon released his grip on Alexei, his body visibly trembling with anger. The atmosphere crackled with unspoken accusations, and the weight of Damon's jealousy hung heavy in the air.

“Alexei, please. Leave us,” I uttered with a strained calmness. Alexei simply nodded and gracefully walked away, though not without Damon's intense gaze following him. The air thickened with tension.

Damon turned to face me, his eyes burning with suspicion and anger. "What was that all about, huh? Tell me, Serena! Why are you lying on top of the chest of another wolf?"

“I just came from the woods after a stroll when I bumped into him and lost my balance. That’s all!”

“Really, huh? I saw the look on that wolf’s face. He certainly likes you!”

"Like me? You’re out of your mind! Alexei is mated to Tori and just had a terrible break up with her. How can you think that something is going on between the two of us?" I shot back, the words tense with the need to dispel Damon's unfounded jealousy.

I was hurt by Damon’s words. I never imagined him accusing me of flirting with another wolf. We were just married, for crying out loud!

But instead of saying anything, Damon just walked away. The weight of his unfounded accusation lingered in the air, leaving me standing there, a mix of frustration and hurt coursing through me. As much as I wanted to follow him, I decided not to. For this marriage to work, trust and understanding were needed. I yearned to comprehend where he was coming from, to bridge the gap between us, but the pain was still fresh.

How could he be jealous of Alexei and me? Alexei was almost a brother to me, and the baseless accusation stung deep, casting a shadow over the trust we had built.

With that, I decided to go back to our tent. Many things happened today, and I felt quite overwhelmed. The weight of the day's events pressed on me, making me long for the comfort of being alone. I hoped the quiet space of our tent would give me a place to think and find peace. With that, I needed a good, long sleep to clear my mind.

I couldn't help but wish that Damon would soon see things more clearly, that the confusion would vanish with the arrival of a new day. The hope clung to me as these thoughts lingered until I eventually drifted into sleep.
