Serena
It had been three years since Damon became the Alpha of the Blood Rose Pack.
“That’s all for today. You can now go.”
The members of the council nodded their heads as they took their leave. We had just concluded our quarterly meeting, and things were going great so far with the pack.
As the Luna, my main task was overseeing the departments, making sure things were running as smoothly as possible. With Damon dealing mainly with pack security and our vassals, administrative tasks were left to my care. It wasn’t easy, especially with a bunch of paperwork involved, yet over time, I learned to get the hang of it.
As I was fixing my things, I noticed a white envelope containing an invitation. It was from Alexei and Tori. Little Oliver and Rina were celebrating their third birthday tomorrow, and as their godmother, I wouldn't miss it for the world. In fact, I had already bought gifts for them, which I was excited to give.
Just then, the door opened, revealing my husband’s handsome face. He was carrying a bouquet of my favorite flowers and extending his hand for a hug. He had been away from Blood Rose for a week now because of a conference, and obviously, we were missing each other so much.
“Welcome back, my Alpha,” I uttered as I was excited to hug him. But my steps were put to a sudden halt when my head started to throb. All of a sudden, I became lightheaded. My vision became fuzzy, and my knees wobbled. The next thing I knew, the floor swayed beneath me.
“Serena! Are you ok—”
I didn't get to hear the rest of what he was saying. The last thing I saw before everything went dark was his worried face.
A strong smell hit my nose. I wrinkled my forehead and squinted at the bright light peeking through my closed eyes. My body didn't hurt, but I felt a bit weak and heavy. For a moment, it felt like I woke up in the wrong body.
I slowly opened my eyes, curious about where I was and what was around me. The darkness faded, and I realized I was in the infirmary.
The room was really clean, but it felt a bit gloomy despite the brightness. It was quiet except for the thumping of my own heart. I tried to move my head to look around, and then a person pulled back the curtain around my bed. They were wearing a white robe, so I figured it was the pack doctor.
The middle-aged man smiled at me. "I am glad to see you're awake, Luna Serena. How are you feeling?"
"Better, I guess," I responded, lifting my upper body with the doctor's assistance. "This is the infirmary, right?"
"Yes, my Luna. You are here because you lost consciousness an hour ago," the kind doctor stated, checking my medical report with the clipboard and pen on the bedside table.
Remembering I was with Damon before losing consciousness, I asked the doctor, "Where is the Alpha?"
"He went outside a little over five minutes ago. But he promised to come back as soon as possible. Do you want me to ask somebody to fetch him?"
"No need, doctor. I will just wait for him. By the way, what's wrong with me? Why did I suddenly feel weak and dizzy? Am I sick, doctor?"
"Easy, my Luna. One question at a time," the kind doctor chuckled. Somehow, his warmth washed away all the worries I felt at that point. I heaved a sigh and tried to calm my nerves. Seeing that I was a bit calmer, the doctor spoke.
"You're not unwell, Luna. Instead, you are carrying something precious within you."
"Precious? Inside me?" His words didn't quite register at first. However, when I saw the meaningful smile now playing on his lips, I finally understood what he was trying to convey, leaving me breathless.
“Doctor…am I…”
“Yes, my lady. You are pregnant with the Alpha’s child.”
I couldn't believe it and covered my mouth in surprise. How did I not notice another life growing inside me? It felt strange.
Reality hit me hard. After losing my child a few years ago, Damon and I decided not to plan for another and let the moon goddess decide when it would happen. I guess this was that day.
Tears started to flow down my face. With shaky hands, I touched my belly. A powerful feeling swept over me. It was like my soul had finally connected with this precious little life inside me, destined to be there until the day I die.
Just in, the door swung open. It was Damon, and trailing behind him was his Beta, Ashford. Their faces were a picture of worry, and seeing my face drenched with tears, Damon exclaimed.
“Serena? What’s wrong? Why are you crying?”
He then turned to the doctor. “Is there something wrong with my wife?”
The doctor shook his head. He then turned to me and smiled. “Luna, why don’t you tell the Alpha about the news.”
“News? What news?” Damon uttered, confused. I held his hand, put it on my belly, and with tears streaming down my face, I whispered. “You’re going to be a father soon. We’re pregnant, Damon.”
Damon’s tears streamed down his face. He didn’t say anything but rather whispered. “I love you both, Serena. More than anything else in the world.”
“And I feel the same,” I whispered as we stayed in that position for a while, savoring the overwhelming happiness we had as we found another meaning of life through this child.
