Xander's POV

I walked home that night refusing to take the bus. For the second time in just a few days, I needed to clear my mind, again.

The cause of both agitations? Methis.

It seemed inevitable that we clashed. It happened, every single fucking time we were together these days, a fight was brewing just below the surface. It was starting to get exhausting and I was starting to get very, very sick of it.

I needed a break from her, from everything. I could not keep living like this, and it was the fact that no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't seem to stay away from her, that filled me with the most dread.

I needed to fix this as soon as possible and I knew exactly where to start.

The city skyline glittered like a sea of stars as I approached the apartment I shared with my sister.

I had sent her a quick text just a few minutes earlier telling her that I was on my way home and we were going to talk this out tonight. It was a simple text to see if she was ready. If I got there and she was home, then it was time. The civil war was over.

If she wasn't, I would have to carry this cross for another few days, at least a night.

She had not responded to the text, which wasn't a good sign but then again she was so hurt it probably should be expected.

I decided to take the elevator, seeing it was empty not wanting to interact with anybody on my way up, my heart pounding as the doors slid open and let me into apartment floor. I

Sophia cautiously opened the door, inviting me into her space. The room was dimly lit, the atmosphere heavy with unspoken tension. I could feel her eyes studying me, searching for sincerity in my gaze.

"Xander," she greeted, her voice a delicate melody laced with uncertainty.

I took a step inside, the weight of my mistakes pressing on my shoulders. "I need to talk to you," I confessed, my words stumbling out in a rush. "I've been a fool, and I'm sorry for the stress I've put you through."

Sophia's gaze remained guarded, but a flicker of curiosity danced in her eyes. The room seemed to hold its breath as we stood there, two souls on the verge of something unknown. It seemed a bit dramatic but something was different between us today. I hoped it was just because of the magnitude of the fight we just had and nothing else. I couldn't bear the thought of losing my sister.

"Sophia?" I asked, my eyes pleading as she remained silent.

"You should be sorry," she finally replied, her voice a measured response to the emotional baggage between us.

My heart pounded even louder as she said those words, something was definitely over, our relationship or the fight. I felt my palms sweaty.

"Does that mean this is over?" I asked quietly, not sure of which I meant.

She shrugged, "It depends, are you here to talk?"

Nodding in agreement, I pursed my lips, slipping my hands into my pockets. "I am. Can we talk inside?"

The silence lingered as she deliberated, and finally, with a reluctant nod, she unlocked the door. The room enveloped us in its quiet intimacy as we settled into a conversation that unfolded like the petals of a delicate flower.

I spoke of regrets and apologies, exposing the vulnerabilities I had shielded for far too long. Sophia listened, her defenses softening with each passing moment. The clock on the wall ticked away as we navigated the maze of our emotions, determined to find common ground.

"We can't change the past," I confessed, my words hanging in the air. "But we can shape our future. Let me make it up to you."

Her eyes softened. I could see the armor around her heart cracking, finally. "Okay, Xander."

I heard myself let out a deep breath I wasn't even sure I had been holding, feeling the weight of weeks of carrying this burden lifted off my shoulders

It was incredibly liberating.

"Let's see if we can build something new." She said, smiling as a single tear rolled down her cheek, thankfully for the first time in a while, I knew it wasn't carrying pain or anger.

And that knowledge made me feel very good.

With a renewed sense of purpose, I suggested a change of scenery. "How about we go out and make some memories of our own? Leave behind the troubles of the past."

She agreed, and we stepped out into the city's embrace, the night alive with the pulse of possibilities.

Despite my former exhaustion, I was more than willing to party tonight. Sophia's reconciliation with me was the best thing to happen to me in a while, and I wanted her to know it, in the best way I knew how.

The neon lights illuminated our path as we walked through crowded streets, the distant hum of laughter and music guiding us toward what I hoped would be the reconciliatory night I desperately needed.

And luckily, it was.

The rest of the night passed like a haze, with us jumping from spot to spot, doing nothing but trying to get as wasted as humanly possible.

In a hidden corner of the city, we stumbled upon a pulsating club, its beats reverberating through the air like a heartbeat of newfound hope. We danced, shedding the weight of our worries with each rhythmic sway. The music became our conduit to healing, a shared rhythm that transcended words.

As the night unfolded, we found ourselves in an eclectic bar, its walls adorned with memories of patrons past. The air was thick with the scent of spilled drinks and whispered confessions. The atmosphere was charged, and we reveled in the shared abandon, the weight of our past grievances momentarily forgotten.

"I never thought I'd see you smile like this again," Sophia remarked, a genuine smile gracing her lips.

I matched her smile with one of my own. "Sometimes, you need to lose yourself to find yourself again."

The night unfolded like a tapestry of forgotten dreams, weaving a narrative of redemption and renewal. We navigated through the city's labyrinth, our laughter echoing off the concrete walls as we forged ahead, hand in hand.

In the heart of the night, amidst the flickering city lights, I suggested a detour into a quieter, more secluded part of town. She immediately agreed and off we went, her arm hooked in mine.
