Jamal POV

I returned to the shore to see the woman sitting and examining the beast. She gave me a puzzled look.

“Where did you come from?” she asked.

“My pet wolf ran to me alerting me of danger,” I casually said.

“Well, aren’t you a bad master leaving your pet wolf to deal with this thing alone?”

“That thing knocked me unconscious that’s why I could not help him,” I lied.

“Alright let’s go then. Where is your pet wolf?”

“I just buried it.”

“Poor thing.” She gave a little sob.

We walked back to the boat and made our way back to the city.

“What is that thing?” I asked.

“I’m supposed to be asking you. You are the one stuck on that island with it.” She gave me a puzzled accusing look. “And a pet wolf.”

“Well a different fisherman dropped me there and ran off,” I lied again.

“Is it Bob? He’s the coward around here”

“How did you see the beast?”

“I was out fishing one day and I saw it shoot out of the sewer and I thought ‘What the hell?’ so I went after it but I lost it.”

“Why didn’t you call for help.”

“I did but they thought my old head was seeing things.”

“Turns out that it wasn’t.”

“Of course, it fucking wasn’t. I have seen things in this life, boy. Things that would shock you.”

I nodded my head in disinterest. She must not have noticed. If she had noticed, she must have ignored it because she kept on rattling about how she had seen creatures and monsters and even ghosts and whatnot.

I endured the long talks up until the point I finally got to the city. Once in the city, I made my way back to the hotel where I had lodged. It has been quite some time since I was last there so I was glad to have to see my children’s faces again and escape the torture of the sewers.

It’s about 9:00 am when I wake up from sleep. It is not very often that I get to sleep late. I don’t like doing it personally but sometimes I feel like I have to, other times I do not control it. It just happens. The fight I had last night with that great beast took its toll and it was not until this morning did I knew that I had been injured in some places that needed medical attention. It was funny how the adrenaline in your body made you fight and not feel things even if you were mortally in danger of harm.

After last night’s fight, I came to a sudden realization. I was wasting time. My people on the other side needed me. Those were my true people. I felt a little bit useless. I had abandoned them to chase after a woman. The crazy things we did for love.

But alas, the Methis I had come here to find had gotten another man in the name of Xander. A man who was not just a man but a dragon as well. All the more reasons I should be keeping away from him. But I did not. Instead, I tried to consult a man who was to help me and all he did was send me to the damn sewer to fetch a stick. It was bunkers.

As I prepared for the day, I made up my mind that I was going to try one last time. Just now and no other time again. We have run out of time already. It was time to head home. I was going to try one last time. If rejected, we would leave and move on with our lives and maybe, just maybe, I would get married to any wolf who was ready, if not, I would live out my days without a Luna. At least the most important thing was that the line of succession was secured.

I walked into the parlour to see Summer sitting and watching television. Autumn had his eyes buried not in books today, but in a magazine. It was an entertainment magazine I had gotten for Summer. He looked up to his sister and said. “Look, Summer.” He pointed at a spot on the page he was reading and Summer absentmindedly glanced down.

“So?” she asked.

Autumn scratched his eyes. “Can’t you read? They say the film is rated 13.”

“So?”

“Don’t watch it! You are not 13 years old yet!”

“Don’t be a pain in the ass. We all know those ratings are fake. They just want to deceive us so we don’t watch good stuff and we go watch those boring colourful things,” Summer defends herself.

“That’s very wrong, Summer.”

“Yeah? Like you know.” Summer draws the remote closer to herself for protection, almost hugging it. “What’s in this film anyway that you are so afraid of?”

“I’m not afraid of anything. I’m just protecting you.”

“Ha! From television.” Summer laughs.

The film truly did depict violence as I could see by just staring but it was nothing for me to worry about. They weren’t human children. They were children of the Lycan King so they were royal breed. Things are expected of them so they might as well be exposed to some of the unfairness of life via screen before they face it in real life.

Still, Autumn refused to watch. He wanted to stick with the rules.

I watched them bicker for a while before I got bored and left the house. I had bigger fish to fry. I had to talk to Methis’ father one last time to make my decision. It was this conversation that would determine who I would be spending the rest of my life with. A girl I loved who had a significant age gap between us, or nobody at all. I finally got to the house after taking two cabs on somewhat long journey.

I got to the house and the streets had become familiar to me. Unfortunately, it was not filled with good memories. The only memories I had here were the one of me walking down it, dejected after just being rejected for the umpteenth time. but what was life without trial.

I rang the intercom and was invited inside. The house was just as it has always been. I did not even care to look around again. I had just one thing on my mind. Talk and make a decision based on Methis’ father’s decision.

Methis’ father was sitting on the couch as I walked in. He offered me a sit and smiled.

I took eh seat gracefully. Maybe we were off to a great start.

“Jamal, how are you?” he asked.
