Talon's POV
When I heard about what happened between Caitlyn and Kaisa, it felt like I was dreaming.
Ever since I was thrown out of Caitlyn's room, my whole being had become a jumble.
I had never seen Caitlyn so hysterical before. I even noticed a hint of disgust in her determined expression, and for a moment, it broke me down a little.
"Alpha, there's someone here to see you."
"I told you, I'm not available right now!"
I lay in bed as Bard's low voice came from the door. I didn't really want him to see me in this unmotivated state.
"Alpha Talon, I'm afraid if you don't go, I'll..."
Just at that moment, a timid voice outside the window made me frown.
"Get lost! Who told you to stay here!"
I had just walked up to the window when I saw a wolf soldier shoving a young girl with tear stains on her face. If I remembered correctly, she would have been the maid in Caitlyn's room before.
"Slow down."
I spoke up to stop the soldier's rough behavior, then looked down at the maid and asked in a condescending manner.
"Who sent you here?"
The maid looked around in confusion, then realized that the source of the voice was above her head and hurriedly looked up at me.
"It's... the Alpha Kaisa."
The maid timidly replied, and after saying that, she also held her head high, afraid of missing any of my expressions.
Hearing that name, I subconsciously frowned.
"You can go back."
"Alpha Talon, you..."
After I finished speaking, the maid exuded a hint of panic and was about to get up and barge inside immediately.
"What do you want to do? The Alpha has already told you to leave..."
Seeing the maid's reaction, the warriors did not hesitate for a moment and dragged her to rush outside.
"Alright," I said, "you go back first; I'll make my way to Kaisa's alone."
Recognizing that the situation was slipping out of my control, I couldn't help but release a sigh. The maid, upon seeing my clear response, broke into a smile.
Although I wasn't sure why Kaisa sought me out, she had once saved my life. It seemed right to express my gratitude by going to her.
"Alpha, I could accompany you. This is the palace, and I'm concerned that the woman may have ill intentions. If she harbors any plans..."
Bard intervened at the opportune moment, speaking with some hesitation.
"It's fine. The fact that we're in the palace makes her less likely to harm me. After all, there are many eyes watching," I reassured Bard. Calming him down, I walked to Kaisa's room.
Though I had traversed this path countless times, an unexplained worry crept into my heart this time.
"Alpha Talon, please tell me, are you the old king's son or not?" Kaisa's sudden question behind me shook me to the core.
"Alpha Kaisa, I don't understand what you mean," I replied, attempting to maintain composure, knowing the weight behind her inquiry.
"There's no time to waste. Just tell me yes or no," Kaisa urged, glancing anxiously towards the end of the road where disorganized footsteps could be faintly heard.
"I'm not." Despite my instinct telling me Kaisa meant no harm, I chose to conceal the truth at this moment.
"Alright. If the king inquires later..." Kaisa sighed in relief, about to elaborate when commotion erupted from behind her.
"Alpha Talon, the king requests your presence in the Great Hall." A soldier with a stern expression stood at the intersection, nodding towards me.
"He's the Gamma of the Lycan King, and his name is Fandom," Kaisa whispered.
"If Alpha Kaisa is free now, please come along as well; after all, you were there that day," Fandom's words sounded respectful, but there was no expression on his face; he just looked at me coldly.
I could feel that any uncooperative move would make he take action immediately.
"Can I ask what this is about? We have a dinner date later," Kaisa asked Fandom, deliberately pulling my arm intimately.
"Alpha Kaisa, it's just the king's daily greetings, and the king also wants to see if the mate you handpicked is really as good as you say," Fandom remained unperturbed, seemingly unaffected by Kaisa.
"Alright." Seeing that she couldn't get any words out of Fandom, Kaisa had no choice but to nod her head unhappily. She followed behind the group in the direction of the palace with me. I don't know why, but as we got closer to the palace, the uneasiness within me became more obvious.
"What's wrong with you?" Noticing my unnatural expression, Kaisa inquired.
"Nothing, it's probably because the injuries from before haven't healed yet," I casually excused myself. Just as I finished speaking, I saw Fandom looking towards me warily, so I had no choice but to nod towards him.
Soon, Kaisa and I reached the Great Hall. A good distance away, I saw the person I didn't want to see.
"Kaisa, how come you never came and saw me after being back for so long?" the Lycan King, Tryndamere's bright voice echoed in the great hall. The king had a smile on his face, like an old man reunited with his daughter.
"your majesty, I just have too many things to deal with lately; you see, I'm here as soon as I'm done," Kaisa's face displayed a tinge of apology.
I could tell that she seemed to genuinely regard King Tryndamere as someone she could rely on.
"Is this the mate you chose?" Tryndamere suddenly turned his words to look at me, his pupils like pitch-black ink, scrutinizing me with a faint murderous aura.
I slowly raised my head to meet Tryndamere's gaze and responded without being humble. "Your Highness, my name is Talon Portwell, from Blood Wheel Moon."
I arched my back slightly, putting my head down and bowing to the king. I clenched my teeth, trying to restrain my anger, reminding myself that now was not the time.
Tryndamere, seated on his throne, seemed pleased with my performance and nodded gently.
"Word has it that you are the child of old King Aatrox?"
As soon as Tryndamere's words left his mouth, the entire hall instantly fell into silence.
