Never Just Friends

Exposing the Truth

Ch. 115 / 300 Mar 01, 2026

By the time Hanna got home that evening, her nerves were frayed. The screenshots from Ciara sat on her phone, staring back at her like a ticking time bomb. She had proof—clear, undeniable proof of the threats against her and Jacob. But using it felt like stepping into a minefield. What if it wasn’t enough? What if Ciara found out and retaliated? The risks felt enormous, but there was no turning back now.

Hanna opened her messaging app and sent the screenshots to Emily with trembling fingers. Within moments, Emily’s reply came through.

Emily: This is enough. We can show people what she’s been doing.

Hanna stared at the screen, her chest tightening.

Hanna: Are you sure?

Emily: Positive. Meet me tomorrow before school. We’ll figure out the best way to share it.

Hanna let out a shaky breath, her heart hammering. For the first time in weeks, she felt a glimmer of hope—like maybe, just maybe, they could take back control.

The next morning, Hanna arrived at school early. The parking lot was nearly empty, the cool morning air biting against her skin as she waited for Emily. She spotted her friend’s car pulling in moments later, and a wave of relief washed over her.

Emily stepped out, her expression focused and determined. She wasted no time, pulling Hanna aside and laying out the plan. “We need to be smart about this,” she said, her voice low but firm. “If we just throw this out there recklessly, it could backfire. We need to control the narrative.”

Hanna nodded, though her nerves hadn’t settled. “How do we do that?”

“We start small,” Emily said. “Send the screenshots to a few key people—people who will talk but won’t know where it came from. Once the rumors start, they’ll take care of the rest.”

Hanna hesitated. “Won’t that make it obvious it’s us?”

Emily shook her head. “Not if we’re careful. People have been waiting for something like this. Ciara’s been untouchable for too long. Once they see these messages, they’ll turn on her. Trust me.”

Hanna wanted to believe her, but the weight of the decision pressed heavily on her shoulders. She knew what was at stake—not just for her, but for everyone involved. “Okay,” she said finally. “Let’s do it.”

The plan unfolded like clockwork. Emily sent the screenshots to a carefully selected group of students—people who were known for their loose lips and their influence over social dynamics. Hanna watched nervously as the messages were sent, her heart pounding with each forwarded file.

By the time first period began, the whispers had already started. Hanna could feel it in the air—the shift, the undercurrent of tension as the truth began to spread.

“She really said that?” a girl whispered to her friend as they passed Hanna in the hallway.

“I can’t believe it,” another voice said. “She’s been doing this the whole time?”

Hanna kept her head down, her stomach churning. She didn’t know whether to feel relieved or terrified. The proof was out there now, and there was no taking it back.

By lunchtime, the school was buzzing. The screenshots had made their way through the student body like wildfire, passed from phone to phone, each new recipient adding their own commentary.

“She’s been threatening Hanna and Jacob?” a boy said, his voice filled with disgust. “Who does she think she is?”

“It makes sense now,” someone else chimed in. “All those rumors about Hanna—it was her. She’s been pulling the strings the whole time.”

Hanna sat with Emily at their usual table, listening to the murmurs around them. The weight in her chest began to lift, replaced by something she hadn’t felt in weeks: hope.

“It’s working,” Emily said, her tone triumphant. “People are finally seeing her for who she is.”

Hanna nodded, though a part of her couldn’t shake the lingering fear. Ciara might not know who had exposed her yet, but it was only a matter of time. And when she found out, there was no telling how she would react.

As if reading her mind, Emily placed a reassuring hand on Hanna’s arm. “Hey,” she said softly. “You did the right thing. Don’t let her scare you.”

Hanna smiled faintly, grateful for Emily’s steady presence. “I just hope it’s enough,” she said quietly.

The rest of the day passed in a blur of whispers and stolen glances. Hanna could feel the tide turning, but with it came a new wave of anxiety. She had spent so long being the target of Ciara’s schemes that the idea of finally standing up to her felt almost surreal.

By the time the final bell rang, Hanna was exhausted. She walked to her locker, her thoughts swirling, when a familiar voice stopped her in her tracks.

“Hanna.”

She turned to see Finn standing behind her, his expression a mixture of concern and determination.

“Hey,” she said, her voice softer than she intended.

“I heard about the messages,” Finn said, stepping closer. “People are talking. A lot.”

Hanna swallowed hard. “Is it bad?”

Finn shook his head. “No. They’re on your side. For once, they’re not listening to Ciara. They’re finally seeing her for who she is.”

Hanna let out a shaky breath, relief washing over her. “Good. That’s… that’s good.”

Finn’s gaze softened. “You’re braver than you think, Hanna. What you did—it’s huge. You’re not alone in this anymore.”

His words brought a lump to her throat, and she nodded, unable to speak.

As Finn walked her to her car, Hanna felt a flicker of something she hadn’t felt in weeks: hope. The truth was out, and for the first time, the tide was turning in her favor. But as she started her car and pulled out of the parking lot, a single thought lingered in the back of her mind.

What would Ciara do when she found out?
