Never Just Friends

A New Storm

Ch. 107 / 300 Mar 01, 2026

The days following her talk with Marco were filled with a strange sense of emptiness. While Hanna knew she had made the right choice by confronting him, the finality of their conversation had left a heavy weight on her heart. She could no longer pretend that things could go back to the way they were.

Despite the loss, she tried to keep her focus on the future, on the healing she hoped would come with time. But as the days passed, she began to notice the tension between her and Finn growing—not because of anything specific he had done, but because of everything unspoken between them.

Her phone buzzed on her desk one afternoon as she sat in the library, trying to distract herself with schoolwork.

Finn: Do you want to meet up after school? I miss you.

A smile tugged at her lips as she typed a reply.

Hanna: I miss you too. I’ll meet you in the park, okay?

Later that day, the sun hung low in the sky as Hanna made her way to the park. The air was crisp, the last remnants of fall clinging to the trees as their leaves fluttered down to the ground. She spotted Finn sitting on their usual bench by the lake, his posture relaxed, but his eyes distant as he gazed out at the water.

She walked over slowly, her steps unsure. He had been so patient with her through everything, but she couldn’t shake the feeling that something between them had shifted. Maybe it was the weight of the secrets they were both keeping—or maybe it was the lingering tension from Marco’s words.

When Finn saw her, his face softened, and he stood, his arms open.

“Hey,” he said, his voice low but warm.

“Hey,” Hanna replied, a nervous flutter in her chest. She stepped into his embrace, letting the comfort of his presence wash over her. For a moment, everything else faded away—the worry, the uncertainty, the mess of everything they had been through.

Finn pulled back slightly, his hands resting on her shoulders as he looked at her, searching her face. “How are you?”

Hanna sighed, glancing down at her shoes. “I don’t know,” she said softly. “I feel… lost, I guess. Like I’m stuck between the past and what’s next.”

Finn’s hand gently cupped her cheek, his thumb brushing across her skin. “I get that. It’s like we’re both holding onto pieces of our old lives, trying to figure out how to move forward.”

She looked up at him, her breath catching in her throat. His gaze was so full of understanding, full of warmth, and it made the weight she had been carrying feel just a little bit lighter.

“I don’t want to keep holding on to the past,” she admitted. “But I don’t know how to let go of it either.”

Finn stepped closer, taking both of her hands in his. “You don’t have to let go of everything. You just have to be honest about what you need now. And if you need me, I’m here. Always.”

The sincerity in his voice made her heart ache. She wanted so badly to believe him, to trust that everything they had could survive whatever came next. But the fear of losing him, or worse, falling into the same traps as before, held her back.

“I’m scared, Finn,” she whispered. “Scared that I’m going to mess this up again.”

He smiled softly, brushing a strand of hair away from her face. “I’m scared too. But I’d rather take that risk with you than not take it at all.”

Hanna felt her heart swell at his words. She leaned in, her lips finding his in a kiss that was gentle at first—slow, deliberate, as though they were both savoring the moment. But as the kiss deepened, the emotions they had been holding back poured into each other, raw and unfiltered.

When they finally pulled away, Hanna’s chest was rising and falling with the intensity of their shared breath. She looked up at him, her eyes searching his.

“Are you sure about this?” she asked, her voice shaky.

“I’ve never been more sure about anything,” Finn said, his hand brushing against her cheek. “I want to be with you, Hanna. Through all of it. No matter what.”

She smiled softly, her heart both full and fragile at the same time. “Okay,” she whispered. “Then let’s figure it out. Together.”

The evening felt different as they walked back toward the entrance of the park. There was no weight of guilt, no crushing uncertainty—just a quiet understanding between them. They were starting fresh, taking a chance on each other again, and for the first time in days, Hanna felt like she was finally stepping into a new chapter of her life.

But as they reached the edge of the park, Hanna’s phone buzzed again, and this time, her stomach dropped.

Jacob: We need to talk. It’s important.

Her fingers trembled as she read the message. The unease she had been trying to shake returned with full force.

“What is it?” Finn asked, noticing her sudden shift in demeanor.

Hanna swallowed hard, trying to steady her racing heart. “It’s Jacob. He wants to talk again.”

Finn’s expression softened, his concern obvious. “Are you okay?”

“I don’t know,” she said quietly, her voice filled with doubt. “I think he’s upset about the talk I had with Marco.”

Finn nodded, his hand finding hers once again. “You don’t have to go through it alone. I’m here.”

Hanna nodded, but as she looked down at her phone, the weight of the unknown settled over her once more. She didn’t know what Jacob wanted to talk about, but whatever it was, it was clear that things were far from resolved.
