Wesley
Mirelle’s eyes lock on Lily. I growl a warning at her, but it’s already too late.
And my hybrid ex of wife is fast, too fast.
Mirelle jumps at Lily, claws outstretched, and teeth bared. Lily sees her and shape-shifts into a wolf, yowling in pain when Mirelle’s teeth dig into her shoulder. Black magic surrounds them, and I growl while desperately trying to free myself from the dark tendrils keeping me stuck in place.
“Poor little pregnant werewolf. Have you come to die? Is life too hard living?” Mirelle taunts. She has changed back into her human form, naked in the moonlight as she presses her foot down onto Lily’s stomach.
Dark magic explodes, and Lily screams as she is forcefully transformed back into a human. Her cries are filled with agony. I want to save her, but I can’t make my body move. The tendrils are holding me back, digging into my fur as Mirelle bends down to smirk into Lily’s face.
“Such a weakling... I bet your child is weak too,” she whispers with her dark hair flowing around her grim face. Her beauty captivated me in the past. Now, it makes Mirelle looks like a fallen angel—wrong and disgusting.
“You’re sick...” I grit out.
Mirelle just laughs and glances at me, her naked foot still pressed to Lily’s baby bump. “You should have never picked this half-assed werewolf as your mate, Wesley. She is pathetic,” she tilts her head, snorting to herself. “But so are you. Damn, I can’t believe I thought you were such a strong and intimidating Alpha in the past. How does it feel to be defeated by little old me?”
Lily manages to grab Mirelle’s foot and stick her claws into it with a battle cry. “Let me go, you bitch!”
Mirelle withdraws her foot, hissing when she sees the blood trickling down her skin. It’s not red, but a blue, sickly color that definitely isn’t normal. Hybrids are clearly monsters.
“How dare you?” Mirelle whispers. She is sitting down on her ass, cradling her foot to her chest with anger written over her features. “You hurt me...you made me bleed...”
This isn’t good. Something bad is about to happen to my mate, and I feel so...useless!
Get up.
Fight.
Those words echo inside my head as I stand up on shaky white-colored paws. Mirelle is laughing manically with dark magic surrounding her.
“You’re going to pay for making me bleed!”
In a flash, Mirelle picks up Lily from the ground. Her fingers go around her throat, and my heart lurches. Fear kicks into my brain, and I stop breathing when I hear my grandma’s voice ask me a question inside my head.
Her face is younger in my vision, her voice softer when her eyes are fixed on mine. ‘What does it mean to be the Alpha of a werewolf pack, Wesley?’
I hold my breath when I see a younger version of myself giggle at my grandma’s question while pressing a stuffed toy to my chest. It’s a white wolf with green eyes—an exact replica of my wolf form—my grandma must have known what I would look like in the future. The entire Brooke family are white wolves, but that’s not what makes us Alphas...
‘A great Alpha is never alone.’ The younger me says, but he isn’t looking at my grandma. He is looking at me, smirking as if he knows a secret I don’t. ‘A lone wolf can’t survive the harsh winds of winter alone. One wolf against the world never ends well; that’s why the pack exists.’
My eyes widen, and in a last effort to save the day, I howl up at the moon, hoping my prayers will be answered with the last magic in my blood. Mirelle pauses as if shocked by my call. She is still holding Lily above the ground, and when nothing happens, she laughs out loud.
“Was that supposed to be a secret attack or something?” she snorts with a little shake of her head. “Don’t make me laugh, Wesley. You can’t defeat me.”
Smirking, I trade fur for skin and fix my gaze on Mirelle when I’m back in my human form. “I’m aware of the power difference between us. You have more offensive magic than me, but that doesn’t matter. I’m a leader, not a fighter. My magic is greater in a different way.”
“Greater in a different way...” She shakes her head again, her grin malicious and smug. “You’ve lost, Wesley. This battle is over before it even began.”
I laugh in delight, amused. “Tell that to them.”
For the first time, Mirelle pauses to look around the courtyard and gasps when she realizes she is surrounded. All of Lily’s rogue friends are glaring at her, my pack members are growling, and my grandma smirks with a spellbook in her hand.
“Thanks for stalling her for me, darling. I’m very impressed with your teleporting abilities. Bringing your entire pack here was a genius move,” my grandma says and snaps her fingers. “And you, demon, will be driven back to the hell you came from!”
A magic circle lights up in gold underneath Mirelle’s feet. She is so shocked that she releases Lily—a big mistake. My mate shape-shifts into a wolf and tackles Mirelle to the ground. She tries to fight back and call for help, but her hybrid friends are too busy fighting my pack members to aid her.
Mirelle glares at me. “You little shit... that’s what the howl was for, wasn’t it?! You teleported your entire pack to this area because you can’t fight me yourself!”
“An Alpha believes in his pack,” I smile at her, and since I feel cheeky, I wink at her too. “You’ve lost, Mirelle.”
“I haven’t lost!”
Laughter leaves my lips. “Are you sure about that? You’re surrounded, and your entire hybrid army is dead. I don’t know what happened to your brother, but he isn’t here either. No one will come and save you.”
Mirelle’s response is to roar and kick Lily off her back, only to get attacked by Juanita, Chelsea, and Jenny. The three rogues bite into her arms and leg to hold her down as the magic circle expands with an eerie energy. Suddenly light pierces Mirelle’s chest, causing her to scream in excruciating pain until she finally shatters into a million shards of glass.
“Goodbye, dear,” my grandma smiles with her hands placed on Lily’s shoulders. “Let’s hope I never see your ugly face on my territory again! See you in hell, bitch!”
“Grandma!” I erupt.
She looks back at me. “What? You know I’m right!”
I laugh in amusement but feel exhaustion creep over me from having used a new spell without practice. I also teleported an entire pack of people, so my magic reserves are rock bottom, and I hear Lily screaming my name before everything goes black.
“Wesley!”
