Wesley
I look down at Lily as she tries to focus on doing the dishes, but she doesn’t give me the time of her day. She is trying her hardest to ignore me, and I don’t know why.
I poke her shoulder. “You’re mad at me.”
Lily pauses what she is doing and narrows her beautiful eyes. Man, she’s pretty, even when she is looking like she might want to kill me. I never expected that when I met her. She was just cute and shy and a little bit of an airhead, but now? Now I’ve learned that there is a fire to this little rogue, and my cock likes it. A lot.
Like, sure, Lily can be annoying sometimes. Her glittery stickers and happy-go-lucky attitude used to piss me off. But that was before I got to know her. Before I learned how kind she is underneath her dishonesty. She lies a lot, but it’s to protect her heart. I understand that now, and even though it’s a flaw of hers, I’m not bothered.
I’m too in love with Lily to care. I kid you not. I’m utterly fucking smitten by her clumsiness and how she isn’t afraid to challenge me despite me being the Alpha of my pack. She is fearless, and ever since I acknowledged my emotions earlier this morning, I don’t feel annoyed by her.
I’m just…helplessly in love.
Fuck, I’m ashamed to admit it, but I’m fucking whipped.
“You embarrassed me in front of my friends, Wesley. Of course, I’m mad at you!” Lily prods my chest with her sharp finger, making my body freeze and pay attention.
Lily is short and fragile, but damn if I don’t like it when she takes charge. I got it good for this woman. I will repeat my earlier words: I’m so damn whipped...
“I was just having a little bit of fun,” I shoot a perfect smirk her way, hoping to come off as charming, but her glare only intensifies. Oops, maybe my good looks can’t save me from every single bad situation?
“A little bit of fun?!”
“Baby,” I say in a sweet voice because it’s my last Ace to play. If Lily doesn’t forgive me when I use THE VOICE, then nothing will work. “I’m sorry.”
She snorts. “Sorry? You’re sorry, really? Wesley, you have to try to come up with a better apology than that.”
“But I don’t even know how I embarrassed you!”
I’m not kidding. I’m clueless about her anger. I went to the gym to clear my mind and decided that I would tell Lily how I feel about her, only to come home to her being all pissed with me. And now, now I’m living in a world full of misery.
“You don’t know how you embarrassed me…” She repeats and sighs heavily before snapping up her eyes and roaring at me. “You openly announced that you had eaten me out in front of my friends—Tess almost had a heart attack!”
Oh.
So that’s what this is about.
I grin. “But that’s the truth, isn’t it? I ate you out two times last night, and it was so messy I swear I can still taste you on my scruff.”
Her pretty little face pales. “Don’t just say things like that!”
I laugh. “Why not?”
“Someone could hear you, you big idiot!”
I grin at her, and since she is so angry at me, red in the face and whatnot, I decide to mess with her by flirting. “There is no one here but us, babe. No one is going to hear me call your pussy pretty and pink and utterly delicious.”
She squeals, and I have to bite my lower lip not to pick her up, run up the stairs, and take her to our bedroom—yes, OUR bedroom because I have decided never to let her sleep alone again. I can’t have that. Not when I want to make things right between us and make Lily fall for me. And once she is in love, I will take back my rejection.
Mirelle was a huge part of my life, I won’t lie. But my grandma is right: I can’t live in the past. Mirelle won’t come back from the dead, but Lily is right here. She is alive, and even though I don’t deserve her, I want her.
“Stop saying sexy things out loud!” Lily pushes me, but she might as well have been trying to push a mountain.
I don’t budge.
“You having trouble down there, sweetheart?” I smirk down at her, but to my surprise, Lily doesn’t growl or show me her teeth. Huh?
I stare at the pretty little lady who stands up on her tiptoes. I have no clue what she is doing, but I yelp when she suddenly kisses my nipple through the fabric of my stinky gym shirt. She makes a low moan in her throat and makes a show out of worshipping it. And just like that, I’m hard and panting like a dog while she just smirks up at me. I want her to continue, but instead, she backs off, hands in the air.
“My work here is done,” she says and glances down at my erection. Seeing it makes her smirk grow. “Well, hello there, big guy. Need help with that?”
I can’t believe she is using my own words against me!
I snort in amusement. “You tiny little shit.”
Lily smiles but shrieks when I lunge forward. I’m about to grab her and throw her over my shoulder to have my way with her, but my phone vibrates in my pocket.
“Just a moment...” I say and fish it up from my pocket. It’s Freddy, which is...strange. He is invited to the gender reveal party—why is he calling me? Couldn’t he wait to tell me whatever is on his mind until later?
I give Lily an apologetic smile. “I need to take this.”
“No problem.”
Lily waves me off and leans against the counter. She stretches for a water glass but is too short to reach it. I pick it down for her while answering my phone.
“Freddy?” I ask and mess up Lily’s hair before slowly making my way toward the porch. Lily walks inside the other room, and I’m left alone outside.
“Wesley!” Freddy’s voice is unnaturally cheerful, and I scowl. For some reason, warning bells are going off inside my head.
“What’s up?” I ask but without a cheerfulness to it.
“You won’t ever believe this.”
“Believe what?”
“I... I’m not sure if I should tell you or if I should keep it as a big surprise.”
His enthusiasm is scary, and I swallow thickly. “Just tell me what is going on.”
“Something great!”
“Freddy…” I warn. “Just tell me what it is.”
“I have discovered a method to bring back the dead!”
My lungs seize when I hear those words, uncertain if I heard him correctly. My Beta has always been a bit of a bad scientist, but necromancy? I had no idea he was into that and fall silent as Freddy keeps talking.
“All those rogues that have been attacking us? They were my experiments, and I’m sorry, man. I couldn’t control them, but my work has finally paid off!”
I grit my teeth in anger and snap at him. “You’re the one behind all the rogue attacks?!”
“Well...I didn’t plan for the attacks to happen. It’s just that all the people I resurrected became crazy and extremely strong from the vampire blood I mixed into the potion. I bought some from a pureblood, and some of my experiments couldn’t handle becoming hybrids. Their wolves grew bigger than what is normal, and most of them escaped from my lab. But that’s not the point! I’ve finally achieved what I once thought wasn’t possible. A miracle!”
For some reason, a shiver travels down my spine. “And what is that, Freddy?”
“I brought her back.”
“Excuse me?”
“My sister...”
My throat tightens, and I croak, “Y-your sister?”
Freddy laughs. “Yeah! Isn’t it great? I brought back Mirelle from the dead! She is back!”
Shock paralyzes my whole body, and my hands tremble as I drop the phone on the ground, unable to tell if I’m dreaming or if this is actually reality. Freddy’s voice carries in the air like an echo, “Hello? Wesley? Are you still there?” but all I can do is stand motionless, my vision blurred by hopeless despair.
Is Mirelle really back from the dead?
