I Wanna Ruin Our Friendship

First Day at College

Ch. 149 / 162 Apr 09, 2026

The air buzzed with new beginnings. Campus was alive—students rushing past me, their voices blending into a chaotic hum of excitement, nerves, and fresh starts. I had imagined this moment for so long, but now that I was here, stepping onto the path I had fought so hard to reach, it felt surreal.

I’m actually here.

The weight of my backpack on my shoulder, the smell of freshly cut grass mixed with coffee from the nearby café, the energy of a thousand students all chasing their futures—it was overwhelming and exhilarating all at once.

As I walked toward my first class, my phone vibrated in my hand.

Logan.

A smile spread across my lips as I opened his message.

Logan: Survived your first five minutes of med school, future Dr. Emma?

I rolled my eyes, shaking my head as I typed back.

Emma: Barely. Almost tripped over a freshman carrying a stack of books taller than her head. Pretty sure I ruined her entire day.

Logan: Damn. First day and you’re already traumatizing students. Proud of you, baby.

I giggled, biting my lip.

Emma: Met my roommate. She’s a total guitar geek, so maybe she can teach me something by the time you visit.

Logan: Oh yeah? Planning to impress me with your new skills?

Emma: Maybe.

Logan: Well, if you ever want a private lesson, you know where to find me.

My stomach flipped at the suggestiveness in his words, heat creeping up my neck. Even five hours apart, Logan still had a way of making my pulse race.

I glanced at the time. Shit, class is about to start.

Emma: Gotta go. Text me later?

Logan: Always.

Tucking my phone into my pocket, I inhaled deeply, shaking off the nerves that lingered in my chest. You got this, Emma.

The lecture hall was massive, the kind that made you feel insignificant the second you stepped inside. Hundreds of students filled the rows, some already hunched over laptops, others chatting excitedly.

I scanned for an empty seat.

There.

Midway up. Not too close, not too far. Perfect.

I slid into my seat, pulling out my notebook, fingers drumming lightly against the desk as I tried to settle my nerves.

And then—

I heard it.

A low chuckle.

Something about it sent a shiver down my spine, like an echo from a past I had locked away.

I froze. My fingers clenched around my pen.

Slowly, almost unwillingly, I turned my head toward the sound.

And my heart stopped.

No. Freaking. Way.

There he was.

Sitting just a few rows away, leaning back in his chair like he owned the place, wearing a dark gray t-shirt that clung to his body in all the right ways, his muscular arms resting lazily on the desk in front of him.

Hazel eyes locked onto mine. Sharp. Intense. Devastating.

Caleb.

My stomach twisted.

I forgot how to breathe.

For a second, I thought I was imagining him. That my mind had conjured him up in some cruel trick of nostalgia. But no—he was here. Real. Solid. Unavoidable.

His gaze didn’t waver.

A slow, knowing smirk curled at the corner of his lips.

My pulse hammered.

No. No, no, no. This isn’t happening.

I had left that chapter behind. I had made my peace. We had gone our separate ways.

And yet—

Here he was.

Handsome. Brutal. Unpredictable.

And in my class.

College had just gotten a whole lot more complicated.
