Her Unwanted Mate

Chapter 31

Ch. 31 / 60 Apr 23, 2026

Isabella’s P.O.V.We all have waited for that one moment in our life, for which we plan and be ready prior to its arrival; thinking about what to, how to, when to; do or say to make it a perfect moment with no regrets to see in the future.

For me, finding my mate was somewhat that moment; well at least before mom died. I always used to imagine how I’ll meet my mate or what I’ll do when I meet him or whether he will like me for myself or not. I always did things keeping my mate in my mind, hence one of the reasons why I never dated anyone, even Caleb for whom I felt something. I always thought it would be wrong from my side if I rob my mate of all my firsts, them being my first kiss, first date and so on. I did go out with Caleb but it was always just for dinner at some diner like I go with Ryan, never did I go to some special candle light dinners or for picnic by the lake.

I grew up seeing my parents very much in love with each other even after years of being together; I’ve always craved for something that pure. They loved each other so much that my mom’s death broke my dad’s will to live and we lost him too after a year. It was like we got orphaned in a span of a year. I was 17 when Mom died and 18 when Dad did. Dad was always there for us, after mom’s death being a father and a mother for all of us, but I think the heartbroken feeling within never left him, which deteriorated his heath and rest is history.

I always wanted that kind of love with my mate; I used to see how Dad would always kiss mom goodbye and then all of us, before leaving for work and how mom used to blush at his behavior even after 17 years of marriage, he still had that effect on her. I would always say, “Ewww that’s gross Dad, go get a room” and Dad would come to me, pecking my head and then say, “We’ll see about that when you find your mate.” We always had a cute banter about it with me always denying it and Mom would wink my way as she knew what I thought about finding my mate.

I always thought I might find him while fighting someone during training sessions, because where else could I find a warrior mate? When it didn’t happen even after a year of turning 18, I lost hope. I realized it that either I have a mate who will be smaller than me in age which was next to impossible because it’s not heard of ever before or he does not belong to my pack. The latter is what really happened, but the part about finding my mate while fighting did come true but not in training ground; more like in the cafeteria.

It feels like a remake of some old era romance, where the story line remained the same but the place and scenes changed a little. I didn’t even know that he was my mate, when I spoke to him the first time. Without even trying he has become an important part of my life and I don’t want to lose him over some stupid argument that could be just a misunderstanding. And I plan to tell him everything about me too because I don’t want to have any more fights with him. I want to have what my parents had between them, with him. I want to go on crazy dates, road trips, have movie nights, sleepovers. I want to marry him, have cubs and watch them grow old with him by my side. I want him to be by my side and help me raise my baby brothers’ with just as much love and care. I want my sisters’ to like him and approve him as a part of our family.

“Whoa slow down tiger. How about you say Hie first?” mocks Aurora.

“How long was I staring at him?” I inquire.

“Not longggggggg. Just for the past 5 minutes I think” she answered stretching the alphabet ‘G’ too much for my liking.

“And you think now was the right time to bring me out of my thoughts?” I asked almost angry at her stupidity. I know she did this on purpose. She could have just said so in the first minute itself, but she didn’t because she wanted me to make a fool of myself in front of our mate.

Such a bitch.

I blink a few times and see that everyone’s eyes are on me, waiting for my reply. I clear my throat once and greet him, “Hie Mason” which to my bad luck comes out as a squeak. I see Rose trying to control her laugh and cover it up with a cough. I glare at her and move my attention towards Mason who was looking at the exchange between me and Rose and has an amused expression on his face with a small, very faint smile latched to his lips. He notices me staring and gives me a small smile and a nod. Matt nudges Rose and hints her towards the living area, which Rose clearly denies.

This woman doesn’t know when to stop.

Matt grumbles something under his breath and Ryan notices it, looking at Matt’s expression he gets the idea and starts pulling Rose towards the living area saying, “Come on, We’ve got a game to finish.”

“I don’t want to play” is her annoying reply.

“I wasn’t asking bitch” is what Ryan says before nodding towards Matt who picks Rose up and throws her on his shoulder, walking towards the couch. Rose thrashes in his arms a little and shouts, “Put me down you hooligan” pauses then gives out a voice that sounded like a moan and says, “I almost forgot how sexy your ass looks from here.”

Matt shakes his head at his mate’s stupid comment and keeps walking, leaving me alone with Mason. I swiftly turn around and walk towards the kitchen, adding some coffee beans to the coffee maker. I’m about to turn it on, when I sense him. I turn a little to see and give him a smile, when he says, “Hie.”

I reply back with another awkward and shy, “Hie” turning the coffee maker on and leaving it to brew. He walks a little further towards me and leans on the counter and asks, “How are you?”

I find it hard to look him in the eye, so I settle with staring at my hands, which are playing with the hem of my t-shirt and say, “Fine I guess.”

His hands wrap around mine and pull me towards him, with me now standing right in front of him I find it hard to breath. The explosions and the sparks are forming a ball of uneasiness in my stomach, the good kind. I still don’t find it in myself to look at him, so he places his finger beneath my chin and moves it up so that he will be able to look at me when he speaks. Once my eyes meet his, he says, “I’m sorry” with so much sincerity that the pain my stupid act gave him was visible in his eyes and it broke my heart.

I wrapped my arms around his waist and pulled in for a hug, whispering, “I’m sorry for being so stupid.” I didn’t realize that I was crying until he pulled me away, swiping his fingers on my cheeks; he gave me a small smile and said, “You’re not stupid babe. If I were in your place, maybe I would have done something more adverse than just leaving from there. I can’t even imagine it and you saw it, so it’s totally understandable and I know for a fact that you were a little disturbed since morning, maybe since yesterday night; so you are not supposed to blame yourself for it.”

“But I was a total bitch to you at the café. I should have just knocked some sense in that bitch for coming at my man, instead of lashing at you” I reply, a little ashamed of my behavior.

“My Man huh?” he asks. I don’t say anything as I hide my face to avoid him seeing the rising blush on my face. “I like the sound of it. But I have to agree that I would have loved to see you punch some sense in her for flirting with YOUR MAN” he continues, accentuating the word Your Man, making my cheeks to go burning up again. I hide my face in his neck and smack his arm, whining “Don’t let it get to your head doofus.” He rubs his arm a little and mutters, “We need to do something about your smacking habits” I can’t help but chuckle at his whining, looking at him I say, “Quit your whining. You’re supposed to be the big bad wolf, Alpha.”

His eyes darken visibly, his arms wrap around me in a strong hold, I see him lick his lower lip as he moves his head towards my face.

Oh my god. He is going to kiss me.

I’m so busy breathing in the excitement of my first kiss, which I thought was about to happen that I don’t notice him moving his head a little, to bring his lips near my ears as he orders in his Alpha voice, “Say that again.”

I shiver runs through my body as my mind starts reeling on my earlier statement, trying to find what I said wrong. I know I’m a strong warrior and an even stronger wolf, but he is an alpha and above that he is my mate, I’m bound to respect him. What if he feels disrespected? What the hell did I say and why did I say? Why do I even bother to open my stupid mouth in front of him?

When I don’t say anything for another minute, he pulls me closer to his body, with our lips almost brushing each other. I’m wrapped up in his scent, standing so close to him that I am sure he can hear my expeditious heartbeats as if I have just finished running a marathon. I gulp at his closeness and open my mouth to speak, but fail at it miserably. He smirks at my silence and asks again, “What did I say love?” “I… I don...” I gulp once more and speak again, this time gain my composure back and say clearly, “I don’t know Alpha. Did I say something wrong?” I ask him, worry clearly seen on my face as I curse myself for ruining his mood again.

He slowly starts moving a little as if rubbing his scent on me and that’s when I feel something hard rubbing against my lower abdomen. The moment I realize what it is, a gasp leaves my mouth and seeing my expression, Mason says, “You didn’t say anything wrong. It just whenever you call me names; this is what you do to me.” I cannot hold the blush that rises up my cheeks as a moan passes my lips loud enough for everyone to hear, Mason stops moving at the same time when Rose comes running inside followed by Matt and Ryan. I bite my lip and look anywhere except at them, finally finding the floor more interesting that the situation, I engross myself in staring at it.

Mason brushes his hand through my hair and chuckles at my embarrassment, suddenly turning towards him; I narrow my eyes at his face. We both are busy in our moment when Rose clears her throat and says, “What is happening over here? I think I heard someone moaning.” Mason opens his mouth to say, “Oh yeah. It was…” I pinch him on his arm to stop him mid sentence as he says, “Owww. Geez woman. If you keep doing this, I’m going to end up with bruises” he whines at me.

“You asked for it” I state at his whiny self.

He smirks at my reply and leans down to whisper, “The things you make me want to do to you woman” as his hand slowly moves towards my ass to leave a bruise with a harsh pinch. I feel the pain, but instead of being offended or hurt by it, I get aroused. I feel my panties turning wet by every passing second as his scent invades my thoughts and brings up wild images to give a picture to his words. I know he knows about my arousal when he captures my ear between his teeth and gives it a slight pull as he whispers, “Such a nasty woman I got for myself.” His words are enough to tell me that he heard my thoughts and knows what’s going through my mind due to his words and actions.

Ryan smells my arousal too, as he is the only unmated wolf in here except for Mason and shouts, “Ewww Bella. That’s gross” and leaves the room running towards the living area, to continue playing whatever game he was playing earlier. Matt shrugs and follows Ryan to do the same, yet Rose stands there at the door wiggling her eyebrows and smirking at me. Mason looks at her and then at me, I turn to look at Rose and ask, “What?”

“Nothing” she says, but still doesn’t leave.

“Care to give us some privacy Rosy darling?” I ask her in my sweet voice.

“Nope. I don’t think so” is what she says. I stare at her to ask what she is trying to do. She shrugs it off, so I ask her again, “What do you mean, you don’t think so?”

She gives me a wicked smile and says, “I mean, I don’t think so that I’m interested in giving you two any privacy.”

I know she is up to something and she won’t leave until she gets it done, so I formulate a new plan. I sense a confused Mason looking back and forth between us to catch hold of the conversation, which does not work at all. I hear him sighing, so I rub my hands that are wrapped around his waist and resting on his back in order to soothe his nerves. I turn towards Rose and say, “If you leave, I’ll bake you your favorite Dutch Truffle chocolate chip cake.”

It does not take her even a second before she smiles, turns around and leaves shouting a “BYE” loud enough for everyone to hear.

“Finally” I hear Mason say, as I repeat the same with a relieved sigh, wrapping him in a warm hug, resting my head on his chest and him resting his head over mine.

Finally.
