Fern's Perspective
The night was deep, and the moonlight cast a faint glow through the heavy clouds, illuminating the dark woods. My heart raced as my silhouette moved stealthily among the shadows of the trees, barely making a sound.
Despite the seemingly peaceful surroundings, I knew I was venturing into dangerous territory. Every cautious step I took was filled with apprehension and determination; I desperately needed to see Oliver and find out what information he had.
Moving quickly and carefully along the path, I finally arrived at the designated spot—a small clearing surrounded by ancient trees. The moonlight filtered through the treetops, casting a serene glow on the grass below. I took a deep breath and tried to calm myself.
I was acutely aware that her appearance was no longer as radiant as it once was. Her recent captivity had left her extremely weakened, both physically and mentally.
Soon after, I heard a soft footstep. Oliver's figure emerged from the shadows, dressed in a black hunting outfit, his face etched with worry and urgency. The moment he saw me, shock and concern flashed across his eyes.
"What's wrong with you? You look—" Oliver's voice was filled with concern and surprise, his words interrupted by the sight of my frail condition.
He hurried over to me and assessed my state, visibly taken aback by how pale and weakened I looked.
I lowered my head, my voice barely above a whisper, "I'm fine, just—just needed to talk to you."
Oliver's expression grew more serious as he sat down beside me and gently took my hand. His touch provided warmth, yet heightened my awareness of my vulnerability.
"Tell me what happened," Oliver's voice softened, his eyes reflecting his anxiety and unease.
I took a deep breath and slowly recounted everything I had experienced.
Oliver listened intently, his face growing somber. He gripped my hands tightly, heartache and anger evident in his eyes. He had never seen me so weak.
"How did you—" Oliver's voice faltered, unable to hide his distress at my suffering. "That bastard! I can't believe he did this to you!" His voice trembled with anger and helplessness.
"I'll be fine," I forced a small smile. "It's just worse than I anticipated, and we need to find a solution."
Oliver nodded, his gaze resolute. "We'll find a way, no matter what." His tone was firm and determined.
"By the way, Oliver, what's new?" I tried to stay calm, masking my inner anxiety.
Oliver handed me a rolled-up paper with a serious expression. "This is the information I've uncovered recently. The Blackmoon Pack has been monitoring Giovanni's pack. Their plans are more complicated than we thought."
I took the paper, unfolding it to reveal the handwritten notes, which conveyed a sense of urgency. The contents detailed a far more sinister plot by the leader of the Blackmoon Pack and his son, Silas. They were planning to exploit Giovanni's weakened state to execute their scheme.
In fact, Silas, the werewolf who had clashed with Aurora, was part of the plan. Originally, their goal was to shatter Giovanni's will completely by making him lose the love of his life, thereby weakening his ability to protect his pack. That's why Silas was seen with Aurora.
Silas aimed to undermine Giovanni by stripping away his love and severing the bond between Giovanni and Aurora. What they failed to realize was that Giovanni had marked me as his mate instead of Aurora. Their plan was to stage a "love betrayal" and have Aurora deliver the final blow to Giovanni, but I ended up saving him.
As I listened to Oliver, I recalled the first time Silas and his father came to the pack. It made sense now why I had always felt that Silas's words were laced with ulterior motives. It turns out they had known all along that I wasn't the real Aurora. Their visit must have been to assess why Giovanni was still holding on or to uncover the reason behind it.
"So that's their plan," I muttered. "To exploit Giovanni's vulnerability and strike his pack again."
"Yes," Oliver confirmed with a nod. "They are fully aware of Giovanni's current situation and the rift between you two. That's why they believe this is the perfect moment to act. Silas and his father have been scheming to diminish Giovanni's power and then take advantage of the opportunity to breach his pack's defenses."
I took a deep breath, contemplating our next move.
"What do we do next?" Oliver asked, determination in his eyes.
My brow furrowed. "We need to act swiftly. Silas has mobilized enough forces for an attack. If Giovanni and his pack can't counter in time, they might succeed, and our plan to leave will be jeopardized. We must ensure that Giovanni and his pack secure a decisive victory."
Oliver nodded, considering my words.
"We need to locate Silas and his father and get a handle on their plans," I continued.
Oliver seemed ready as he pulled out a small metal box containing maps and notes. "This is what I'd gathered about the Blackmoon Pack's strategy and the location of their camp. We can use this information to develop our countermeasures."
I examined the maps and notes closely. The Blackmoon Pack's camps were spread out densely, and their plan involved a staged attack.
"This information is crucial," I said. "We need to divide your people. Some should scout out the Blackmoon Pack's movements, while the others stay in constant contact with our allies to ensure their support. We must use every resource at our disposal to thwart their plans."
Oliver nodded in agreement.
My heart raced.
I took a deep breath, allowing my anxiety and unease to transform into a firm resolve. Although my plan was to leave this dangerous place, it was clear that I couldn't rely solely on my own strength. I turned to Oliver with a determined and serious expression. "Oliver, you need to go back and contact our parents. Let them know that the situation here is more dire than we thought."
A flash of surprise crossed Oliver's face, but he remained silent and attentive. I continued, "Our parents need to be aware of Blackmoon Pack's plans. They should send someone to monitor Blackmoon Pack's movements. Meanwhile, I need them to locate Wizard Peter as soon as possible." I paused, my expression growing even more serious. "Peter has something I desperately need right now."
"What are you going to do?" Oliver asked, his tone revealing both intense curiosity and a hint of anxiety.
I looked at him with a wry smile. "I'm leaving," I said quietly but firmly.
Oliver nodded, his eyes reflecting both worry and determination. "I understand. Do you think they'll get there in time?"
I bit my lip, feeling a tumult of emotions inside. "I don't know, but we can't afford to wait. Time is crucial. We must act quickly." I met his gaze, my tone resolute. "You need to return immediately, contact them, and relay this information. If we delay any longer, it might be too late."
Oliver's expression softened but remained steadfast. He reached out and gave my shoulder a reassuring pat. "I'll do everything I can. Be careful and take care of yourself."
I nodded, my heart a mix of gratitude and apprehension. Although the plan to leave had been slowly forming in my mind, its complexity was beyond anything I had anticipated.
