Antonio had tried every possible way to discourage his grandma from proceeding with the family tradition but was not successful of getting a diviner but no avail. “Grandma there’s nothing like seeing the future, they’re all swindlers, faking predictions”. “Don’t be silly," Grandma Elizabeth gently chided. “I don’t believe in these things, there's no way that woman that always wears a turban and horrible rings on her fingers can predict the future”. Antonio persisted. “Not just predict but she will also give her advice as a life coach”. Antonio rolled his eyes annoyingly. He was sure convincing her wouldn’t be possible and also the Diviner is even more difficult than her. Yesterday after the family introduction he reached out to the Diviner to bribe her concerning today’s meeting but she bluntly turned him down no matter the amount involved saying it will affect her spirituality. “I could have offered her a night stand instead, no woman would reject that” he said to himself and grinned sheepishly. “I know that smile, what are you plotting?” Grandma broke into his thoughts with arched brows, staring suspiciously at him. "Nothing….but just curious, mama what is going to happen if this diviner predicts that we are not destined for each other?” She sighed deeply. “I am afraid we have to call off the engagement and there will be no wedding”. “If we call off the wedding, how will I fulfill your wish then, since she’s the one I wish to marry”. “I will make another wish”. Well, make another wish is more interesting than this one. This isn’t so bad after all, time to get rid of that Freckles, she is doing things to him, and he hate the feeling of it. Usually Antonio is very much aware that the family excluding his grandma will be more than willing to get rid of her immediately but there was another thing, will his grandma okay about this for real, he queried himself with concern. “Grandma, are you sure, you will be fine about this, I really want you to be happy”. She took his hands and kissed it then smiled lightly at him. “I know my love, I will be happy, It will be a lot better than a bad future after all, you don’t have to worry our family diviner Fefe has a genuine gift, I can’t bear seeing you unhappy in a wrong marriage from heaven when I am gone”. Antonio frowned at her statement. “Don’t say such things”. She chuckled. “I will also have to tell the Diviner to see my death, so we can get the marriage done while I’m alive". Vexed beyond his limit, he hugged her tightly. “A hug that’s new”. She smiled trying to hold back her tears. “I will create a heaven for you with me here, you won’t have to go anywhere”. “Someone’s coming, stop being such a baby young man!” she scolded, deep inside she thought there’s no way Angela couldn’t be his destiny partner, he has grown more soft than his usual self. “You are being a big baby stop it or I will tell everyone “. She teased him again. “I don’t care”. Antonio insisted with an unappealing pout on his strawberry –moist lips. A knock sounded at the entrance door, and a housekeeper in a maid's uniform came in and announced. “Ma’am, Madame Fefe has arrived” she stated with a bow. “Excellent, tell her my son and I will be right down and also send a message to my darling Angela, her presence is needed”. “Yes ma’am” the female servant bowed and left. ****** Grandma Elizabeth stared impatiently at her visitor, who has been meditating for minutes since arrival. “Tell us Fefe, what do you see?” Grandma said leaning forward with a curious look on her face, beside her Angela and Antonio was seated in expectation too. To Angela, the diviner looked like a middle aged woman. She had a purple turban towered on her head which matches her flowy dress and many piercings on her mean looking face, long but neat fingers also a lot of rings and bangles on her hands, on her neck was a big charm necklace with an eye decoration. Madame Fefe clucked her tongue and started rotating her mystic ball, it seems to be an instrument guiding her spiritual gifts. She didn’t say a word, but her lips kept muttering inaudible words as she continued rotating the mystic ball. Suddenly she gasped. “Ah!” “Yes? Yes?” Grandma leaned forward eagerly. Madame Fefe looked up from the ball to the animated face of Grandma and the doubting faces of the two people with her. She released a heavy sigh as her frown deepened into a scowl. “Which of one do you wish to know first, their fate or yours, I suggest theirs and yours after” she said to Grandma with an unpredictable tone in her voice, her face cold and expressionless. “You know the best, Fefe, don’t keep us in suspense, my death has been decided, all I am asking is my exact time and the future my loved one I will live behind”. Grandma replied impatiently. Madame Fefe stopped the mystic ball from rolling and looked up and gaze from Angela to Antonio. She motioned for their hands. “Give me your hands, children”. Angela looked back at Grandma for permission before she stretched her arm across the table, losing them in the diviner’s grasping ones, Antonio reluctant did the same. Madame Fefe bowed her turban-swathed head and closed her eyes as though in prayer. For minutes she said nothing, only muttering inaudible words as if she was casting a spell. Antonio and Angela exchanged glances as they waited impatiently for the release of their hands. Only the clock ticking could be heard and also Angela’s heartbeat, she prayed secretly for it to be a genuine diviner because it is obvious to spirits and man that she and Antonio are not in any way compatible Suddenly Angela felt her palm hot and sweaty, a feeling of fear gripped her. It was an unusual feeling, she stole a glance at Antonio to know whether he felt the same burning sensation, he looked like he was about to ask her the same question. Then with a sharp breath, Madame Fefe dropped their hands, shaking as though possessed by an evil spirit, her many bracelets clanged together on her arm. Angela caressed her hot palm, the lines on them seem darker than usual, her eyes asking lots of questions. “Now can you cut out the dramatic procedure and tell us what we want to hear?'' Antonio demanded with a pissed expression on his face. “One question, do you really love this young lady, Antonio Montero?” Her question was direct and so unexpected that it left him speechless for a moment even Angela was stunned. “That’s silly, of course I do love her, that’s why she is my fiancée!” He barked. “Why then don’t you believe in your love?” She threw another question. Angela shifted her butt uncomfortably on the sofa as if it would flame up any moment. “What the fuck are you saying? Get to the main reason you are here Fefe” Antonio blasted.
