"Mom..." Velma looked at Debbie from behind with a gloomy face. She had no chance to speak just now.
She thought, "Marilyn, you actually dared to call me a dog!
Good job!
I am not as good at words as you, but I am more ruthless than you in secret!"
She stomped her feet angrily and left with Debbie.
Marilyn and Denise left the alley.
Denise brought her to the market.
Marilyn did not know the way. With Denise leading the way, she was not worried.
Denise looked at her apologetically. "Lynn, I'm sorry! You suffered because of me today."
She had always felt sorry for the slap that Marilyn had taken for her.
Marilyn smiled and glanced at her, "Denise, it's okay. Moreover, a person will be stronger after suffering. I didn't suffer because of you. You don't have to feel guilty! Aren't we friends?
"Friends share happiness and hardship together." Marilyn smiled. Now, she could laugh over many things.
In fact, Debbie made her very angry because she was still unable to defeat herself.
She smiled and her mood eased a lot. If she cared too much about other people's opinions, she would be exhausted.
"You are so silly!" Denise still looked at Marilyn with a guilty face.
Marilyn changed the topic and asked, "Denise, are you going to leave here?"
When Denise heard that, she looked sad.
She glanced at Marilyn, then slowly lowered her head and said in a sad tone, "Lynn, you know that the barbecue stall is my mother's only income source. If it is really destroyed by the Remington family, my brother's tuition fees will be a problem.
"I can't ruin my mother's only livelihood because of myself. We have no money and no power. We can't defeat them. It's better for me to avoid them. And the matter will be solved."
When Marilyn heard that, she suddenly understood Denise's thoughts.
She laughed at herself. Courage couldn't defeat reality.
Denise had guarded her own city by doing this.
Marilyn took a deep breath and asked, "Denise, have you decided where to go?"
Denise looked at her, shook her head, and smiled bitterly, "Lynn, I don't seem to have anywhere to go. The child is almost three months old. In a few months, my belly will grow bigger. If I continue to stay here, the neighbors will laugh at me.
"My mother has had a hard time in her life. Recently, her business finally settled down a little and my family's condition has improved a little. I can't let my mother be sad because of me."
Denise did not have many friends, and even if there were a few, everyone was already married and had children. They were all busy with their own things and had no time to pay attention to her.
Anyway, no matter where she went, as long as the baby in her belly was healthy, she could live well alone.
Marilyn smiled. "Denise, why don't you go to my house?"
Denise shook her head quickly. "Lynn, I can't bother you anymore."
Marilyn looked at her with a smile, "Denise, you are pregnant now. You go to my house to live. It will be convenient for you after you give birth to the child. I seldom work overtime and can take care of you.
"Besides, I still have a lot of empty rooms. If you go there, when I go to work, you can talk to my mother and she won't be lonely."
Denise looked at Marilyn with a grateful face. "Lynn, thank you so much! You helped me during my most difficult time. After I give birth to the child, I will find a shop and do my family business. I will support myself and the child."
She had been looking for shops on the Internet these past few days. If she could find one within these few months, she could do business for a few more months.
She was confident in her family business.
She had deep feelings for Jacob, so she could not bear to abort the child.
She would quietly take care of their love.
They would not make up.
So she left these feelings in her heart and made them her memories.
Marilyn smiled and said, "Denise, take your time. It is more important for you to take care of yourself and the baby in your belly."
Denise smiled and nodded.
Marilyn asked again, "When will you move? I will go back later and tidy up a room for you to live in."
"Lynn, let's do it today! I mentioned this to my mother before. She doesn't trust me to live out alone, but I've made up my mind and there's nothing she can do about it.
"As for the child, she didn't stop me from giving birth.
"As she said, women can raise children without relying on men. As long as we are willing, we can face everything bravely."
"Denise, you are right to think this way. After buying the vegetables, you can go home and pack your things. When I go back, I will clean up the room." Anyway, Marilyn liked to be with friends. There were many rooms now, so she could give one to Denise.
"Alright!" Denise smiled. She was very grateful to Marilyn.
She would always remember it.
Then, the two of them bought vegetables and went back.
Denise went back to pack her things while Marilyn went home with the vegetables.
When Marilyn got home, it was just ten o'clock, and it was just right for breakfast.
"Mom, I'm back," Marilyn shouted happily when she saw Elvira.
Elvira was planning to cook. When she saw that Marilyn's face was red and swollen and that there was blood beside her ear, she instantly became anxious.
She quickly walked over, took the food from Marilyn's hands, and placed it on the table.
She asked, "Lynn, tell me, who hit you?"
When Marilyn heard that, she quickly touched her face which had been beaten.
With a trace of numb pain, she was irritated. She thought, "Debbie hit me so hard that it's still red and swollen."
"Mom, it's fine," Marilyn said with a smile.
"Tell me, who hit you?" Elvira didn't want to let her pass just like that.
For the past seven years, she had truly treated Marilyn as her own daughter.
No one could bully her daughter.
Marilyn still smiled. "Mom, it's okay. I was just slapped!"
"Lynn, who slapped you?" Elvira asked persistently.
Dominic and Laverne walked out of the room when they heard their grandmother's stern voice.
When Elvira saw them, she said, "Laverne, Dominic, go to the second floor."
Laverne glanced at her mother's face and turned to leave, feeling distressed.
Dominic also looked at his mother with heartache and bit his lower lip.
When Marilyn saw that she couldn't avoid it, she could only tell Elvira everything that had happened that day.
When Elvira heard that, she was shocked. "Lynn, is the child in Denise's belly Jacob's?"
"Yes." Marilyn nodded. However, looking at her mother in deep thought, she asked with some doubt, "Mom, do you know Jacob?"
